I'm going to be staying in the city for the summer, and I was wondering if anyone knows of any small type shops near 21st st and 1st ave? Preferably walking distance, cause I probably won't want to take a cab every Wednesday.
I know about Midtown Comics, but I'd rather go to a smaller shop.
Any help would be great.

I've really wanted to check out that infamous Comics Collectables place. Where's that one?
The stuff of iFanboy legend.

Nice.
I actually picked up books from there a few months ago. They have a pretty good selection. No website that I can find, though.

You should do a live show on their roof.

Worth checking out Midtown Comics near Times Square as well!!
They are having a 40% of all back issues sale this weekend.

St. Marks sucks.
They got a good trade selection, but it's small, messy and their workers know both Jack and shit.(but are hot)

I just hit several of these shops in the last week while on vacation. A couple of things about the three larger ones. Jim Hanley's is the most confusing shop known to man. The guys have commented on it several times and the comments were warranted. Forbidden Planet has a really nice selection of trades and new stuff but I didn't see any back issues section. Midtown is probably the best overall but you couldn't pay me to be there on a Wednesday. I was there on a Friday afternoon and it was busy. I can't imagine what Wednesday would be like.

I don't mind the organization of comics in Jim Hanley's. It 'makes' you browse the store and gives you a chance to check out the lesser known comics.
Wednesday's in Midtown Comics is crazy... both the Times Square and Lexington Ave stores are totally packed but EVERYBODY is in a really good mood.

When you run in in a hurry to find something, I find this type of organization annoying, but I can definitely see how it would help you to discover things you wouldn't otherwise see. Hanley's was around the corner from my hotel and I found myself going to Midtown more often.
