Who's going to the San Diego Comic con?

I am not. It seems like a long walk. But I'm looking forward to the coverage!

Fred, do you ask out of curiosity, or because you're trying to figure out if you should go?

We're definitely gonna have a get together. There are a couple panels planned, and we MIGHT even do another live show, so we'd love to get as many supporters as possible.

Obviously, we'll have official announcements on this stuff a bit closer to the con.

San Diego is the con to go to at least once in your lifetime.. ;)

jgg0610

It's definitely on my list of con's to make it to, it's just not going to happen this year. Other than a small regional con in Nashville, the only other one I may make it to this year is Chicago and that's still up in the air.

I'm kicking the idea around. The airfare at this point is a bit more than I'd like but I'm still looking. Hotel room might be a bigger issue.

One-day as God as my witness I will go to that comiccon!

Unfortunately I'm going to drama school for the next three years however, as soon as an opportunity arises that I can go I will.

You could sleep on a beach. I have a friend who was gonna backpack to California and do that. I haven't heard from him. Maybe because he's having so much fun?

Here's my pitch. You have a room? I'll sleep on your floor. I'll pay and everything. Just so you feel better - I'm not a nudist, I've never killed anyone, and with the Supreme Court's decision in the recent Lawrence vs Texas case I'm no longer a sex criminal.

Not so much really. Nashville's like a 2 1/2 hour drive so it's easy to go up for the weekend. Chicago's only an 8 hour drive the way most people drive so there again, it's an easy weekend trip. That's why San Diego is tough. Can't drive it in a weekend.

There's a reason that Memphis, TN is the distribution hub of the country.

Ah ok.. Well, I have a free plane ticket to go anywhere in the U.S., so Chicago is kind of tempting now but my problem is the hotel.. I don't know..

I hadn't thought about that. There is a train that goes to Chicago from here. I'll have to check into that. As far as hotel rooms, you're talking to the wrong half of this couple. My wife makes ALL of our travel plans. I literally don't know where I'm going and what I'm doing until she tells me, sometimes on the morning of. It works out because it's her thing. She likes the planning stuff. Me, it drives insane.

Interesting Ray Bradbury is gonna be there.

I wish i was going. Deffiantly next year though.

I don't really have any local friends that would want to go so i'm still debating that.

Yeah, at this point for San Diego you have to book the hotel like a year in advance. Hundreds of thousands of people take up a lot of hotel rooms.

Supposedly, there are hotels for under $100 a night if you're willing to stay a few miles away from the event and (I guess) drive in. Can't imagine what parking'll cost at the convention center, but hey. *shrug*

Speaking of cost, if anyone's willing to rent a little floorspace in their room, I'd be happy to pony up a percentage. *waves a fistful of cash* (The folks I was originally planning on rooming with have all bailed, so I've been a bit screwed over. )

Regardless, I'll see y'all there even if I gotta rent a room at a Motel 6 seven miles away in Chula Vista. :)

Man, I really need to start posting on these forums more.

So my 21st Birthday is coming up in late August and I wanna do something cool. At first I was thinking of going to PAX, but planning a flight to Seattle and renting a car and hotel about a month out from the event seems like it's gonna be a pain. An expensive pain.

So then I remembered the SDCC is coming up and I thought that might be an attainable target. I've wanted to check out San Diego ever since I moved here and having the SDCC as my first real con seems like it would be awesome. I live in Santa Monica so it's only like a 2 hour drive. I'm curious if it's still feasible to get all the crap needed to be done to go in time. Any veterans willing to drop some knowledge on hotels, parking, and general tips for a con noob?

Thanks.

jaflanagan
07-06-2007, 03:14 PM
well, I'll be honest. It's a little late to get a room, unless you stay a ways out of town. And you can't pre-register anymore, so you'll have to stand in line to get in. And I'm not sure what parking is like, but you can probably expect to pay $10-20 a day or so. I would suggest getting there as early as possible in the morning, and getting a pass for the whole weekend. Bring water, and lots of cash. If you have a credit card problem, don't bring it in the building, because you will be tempted with massive irresponsibility.

Well, I had to make a hard decision this year, but I'm gonna skip out on San Diego. I just can't afford to go, and take the time off work. If there's an iFanboy meet-and-greet or what not, so long as it's in a bar I can get into, I'll try my best to make it. Otherwise, no go.
