Just came back from midnight show, I went in with low expectations especially with PG-13 issue, BUT this movie blew me away. I have not had this much fun watching an action movie in along time. It put a grin on my face nearly the entire film. Best summer film so far!

I am actually driving an hour and half to the other side of the state to go with a bunch of friends from college.
This will be the first non-comic book related action movie I am allowing my 8 year son Anakin to watch. Normally he is only allowed to watch PG or pre-approved comic book movies. I honestly don't give a poo about language but he is a little sensitive about violence, especially towards kids and animals. Is there anything I need to be concerned about for him?

There is your normal Die Hard violence, but one thing may be distrubing,
He does beat the crap out of a woman, so not sure if that wouldd be unsettling for him or not.

Every review I've read has said that while it's a PG-13 in terms of language, the violence is definitely as R as ever. Extremely high body count, though apparently they hold back on the gore.

Recipe for the New Die Hard

Get a large mixing bowl (I used my fav with the big screen and digital sound)

1/4 cup Sneakers, finely chopped
1 pinch Enemy of the State
2 tablespoons Lethal Weapon
2 cloves The Rock
4 sprigs Bourne Idenity
1/2 cup sifted Ronin
2 teaspoons The Saint

Mix together at low speed until well blended.

Pour into a Die Hard mold, shake and tap until batter is settled.

Bake for about 130 minutes

Make sure you don't bake it too long or it will come out with a serious crust like Heat, which is an awesome desert but not what we are looking for.

If toothpick comes out clean, it will be as enjoyable as True Lies.

I sat down to have mine with two scoops of Nastalgia and a cold glass of Enthusiasm.

I wasn't disappointed...in fact, I believe I might have another helping.

I was going to completely reject this movie. But after hearing what you guys are saying, I will give it a shot.

After being excited for the movie, I saw it today with my dad. Unfortunately, we were both kind of let down. It was fun, but we felt like it was missing something. There are a handful of funny moments, but only one specifically sticks out in my head. I definitely want to say that Maggie Q is hot as hell. Mmmm.

Oh man! This movie was awesome! I loved it. Thought PG-13 was gonna ruin it but it didn't. Bruce Willis was great and Justin Long didn't make it suck either. It's really over the top though so don't expect everything to be so realistic enjoy it for what it is. Fun....

Just got back from it. Wow!! You have to expect a high level of action from a Die Hard movie, and this one doesn't disappoint in the slightest. It has some of the best choreographed action sequences I have seen in a while. Simply outstanding. You forget the whole thing about it being PG-13 and all that. There was no reason to make it R. It is good as it is now.

During the opening credits, I thought it said "Based on the novel 'A Farewell to Arms'." Can anyone confirm that?

Die Hard is based on a novel, I'm not sure if all the movies in the series are based on a novel, but I know for a fact the original is.

And I just got back from it, and holy ****ing shit did I have a great time, I forgot it was a PG-13 movie until the very end when they cut off the end of ****er with a gunshot. And Justin Long didn't make it suck too bad, he was a bit annoying though.

And the guy who played Thomas Gabriel is Agent 47 in the Hitman movie...

From Wikipedia...
The film's plot is based on an earlier script entitled WW3.com by David Marconi, screenwriter of Enemy of the State.[5] Using a Wired article entitled "A Farewell to Arms"[6] by John Carlin, Marconi crafted a screenplay about a cyber-terrorist attack on the U.S.[7] After the 9-11 attacks, the project was stalled, only to be resurrected several years later and rewritten into Live Free or Die Hard by Doug Richardson and eventually by Mark Bomback.[8]

I saw it last night. I'm just throwing in my vote for the "damn-fine-mindless-entertainment" award.

I just got back from seeing it and I really liked it but a few things bothered me.

-- SPOILERS --
The scene where Justin Long and Bruce Willis are talking with the Chief B-something seemed really weirdly cut to me. It went back and forth between shots every second. I think it was so they could cut the bad words out? It gave me a headache.

There's a really really noticeable continuity problem in the scene where Bruce Willis beats the crap out of Maggie Q. They're fighting and her hair is all messed up and in the next shot where she turns around to walk to Justin Long her hair is all neat and tied back. In the next shot it's all messy again. It was so glaringly obvious that my friend and I turned to each other at the same time and said "WTF did you see that?"

All the financial data in the USA is 5 terabytes and Gabriel is going to download it into a portable hard drive? Yeah okay.

If Gabriel was such a good hacker, why did he need to take his pet hacker around with him everywhere? Why doesn't he do his own work?
--END--

But other than that the action sequences were really cool. I didn't go in expecting a good plot, I knew that it would require major suspension of reality. McClane kicks ass and there's lots of explosions. Totally rad :D

Oh and I saw Ratatouille yesterday and that was really really really good.

Did they play the Hitman trailer before the movie in your theater? I thought it looked ****ing sweet!

There are a few problems I have with the trailer, Hitman is one of my favorite video game franchises, and I think Agent 47 should be older, I was hoping it would be Jason Statham (The Transporter, Crank). While Agent 47 is a man of God, (Which doesn't even happen till Hitman 2) he doesn't hunt people because they are evil, he assassinates people that his agency tell him to assassinate.

Well, at least old Uwe isn't directing.

I had the same thought about the actor. Statham would have been absolutely perfect for the role.

I can't watch Justin Long without thinking how much he reminds me of Kevin Rose.

(Really enjoyed the movie though.)
