This week: A review of Ratatouille, a surfeit of comic book movie news, and a look at the video game console sales numbers and what they might mean. Plus, we debut the TRS Book Club, and a big purchase is made! It's the Totally Rad Show Episode 14: "Fun-damental" the one in which Dan is curious about elves, Jeff confuses "weekly" for "monthly", Alex follows the string, and we all have our last meal.

Seriously, it sounds like crickets or something. I've noticed it on previous episodes, but it is way louder and earlier (it usually shows up in the end of episodes) than before.

For the record: I REALLY enjoyed watching Alex get frustrated when everyone was trying to get his off topic birthday story off topic.
And thanks for the Ratatouille review. I'm totally stoked that Pixar is staying on top.

The origin of elves is an irish thing. Good elves (sidhe) would protect children from the elves (ban-sidhe). Oberon was their king. (Short version)
The origin of elves in Shadow Run was because of the karawu (change) when magic came back in to the world. (No jeff, it was not DISCOVERED). Elves, orcs, ghouls, etc all came about when the recessive genes in humans were activated by magic.

I feel like the Wii is a stepping stone in the right direction, and right now we are just getting familiar with this idea. We are sort of in a mid-air jump. Some people are unsure of what lies ahead and thats really what this industry needs and what I am excited to see, a real big boom of change.
As far as Cliffy B's bro talking about losing out on content for the hardcore crowd, it's possible but unlikely, considering there will always be 'moneys' to be made in the casual, core and hardcore market. Whether or not MORE money is to be made in the casual department than in the hardcore market is probably what freaks some developers out, and their family members (Apparently).
What Alex says about the Wii being a novelty is what a lot of people said about the DS. I think the Wii is at a price point ($250) to where it can reach a lot of people quick, it can push a lot of titles and it will get those from AAA titles from developers who really just can't say no, especially with the Wii so rapidly catching up to the Xbox 360's almost 2 year install base.
The Wii has it's share of hardcore games coming out, don't forget that. Most people are dissing it's online plans right now, but apparently EA has plans for a great online Madden for the Wii, with no friend codes involved. I've been hearing a lot of talk from developers that includes huge MMO and RPG projects, competitive online FPS games, and you can't forget about the potential games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Animal Crossing and Mario Kart could deliver for an online experience.
I'm just glad the Sonic RPG isn't being made by the Sonic Team =/.

I'm in the same predicament that Jeff is in. I want a PS3. I know there is no point in getting one now, Especially with the looming price cut coming(who knows when). I know the PS3 is gonna be worth it in the long run. Maybe when MGS4 comes out.
Don't listen to Alex this time, from what I gather he never really liked the PS2 and that system freaking rocked.
However it's sad to say that the main reason that I haven't purchased one is the lack of funds. dammit.

I've been look for contests to enter as well. I've been doing that stupid free stuff crap on G4TV..no dice. But I'm still looking for contests.
I don't think there's any sort of intentional company loyalty that Alex has, I personally thought the original xbox sucked though.

Fourteen.
In the Tolkien Book "The Hobbit," Bilbo was chosen as "lucky number 14" because the dwarves didn't want a party with only 13 members.
Fourteen is also the sum of three perfect squares whose square roots are consecutive integers: one, four and nine.

Just a note.
The ideas of elves, dwarves, wizards and such art part of ancient worldwide folklore. You can also group in dragons. Many cultures have dragons. Nevertheless, the modern fantasy sense of these races were not due to Tolkien alone but a small group of English writers that include Tolkien and C.S. Lewis who no doubt were in contact with each other.
There is a famous urban legend that, upon seeing a draft of LOTR, Lewis exclaimed, "Oh no, not another f*cking elf."
While Tolkien does bear a large credit for inventing the modern fantasy genre, authors like Lewis also get a little credit.
Indeed, this is one of the things that makes LOTR such a masterpiece.
There are many more works of fantasy that are informed by LOTR than say Narnia.
The funny thing is that LOTR and Narnia both derive a lot from the Christian traditions of good and evil. However, since Narnia is so much more blatant about it. All the flower kids from the '60s didn't give it as much respect.

I know i'm in a den of hardcore gamers, but as someone who hasn't owned a console since the PS2 first came out (and then sold it like 6 months later) I have left my hardcore gaming days behind - along with my single life and college days. I am now married and teach at a middle school - but the Wii got me back into gaming.
I can understand the hardcore scare, but aren't the hardcores also happy that more people are getting into games? I used to be anti-video game for a while until i saw the potential of the Wii, but put it off thinking a console would never have a place of staying in my house (sometimes my wife wants to bust out the N64 to school me in Dr. Mario tho - it's very embarrassing). This is what I thought until my wife wanted to know what to get me for my birthday and when i said i didn't know, she actually suggested the Wii because SHE wanted to play one.
That right there is enough for me to nod more than a head to Nintendo. I may just be entering the casual gaming stage again, but my wife is coming with me and that's 2 more gamers than there were a week ago.
Wouldn't a hardcore gamer like to walk into my house and see a Wii (which they at least have to respect, right?) than see nothing at all? And maybe the wii will be a gateway drug and maybe it won't. As long as my wife and I can have some fun playing games together i don't really care.
And as a discretion, the Wii is hidden in some closet right now as my wife won't let me freakin open it until my birthday in a week and a half, but i'm just assuming i'll love it. Glad I found one at BB this past weekend.
Sorry about the long post - thanks for reading.

I can't stand it when Alex complains about the Wii not being a true gaming console. There are plenty of people like me that bought it as their only console so far. Since it did so well in the market game developers are jumping all over it with hardcore and casual games.
The only real hardcore games I've played on it so far have been Zelda, Super Paper Mario, and RE4 and for casual games I have Wii Sports and WarioWare. I think that the graphics aren't really hindering any "hardcore" games from coming out on it either.
I think What the Wii and the 360 both have that trumps the PS3 - right now - is the fact that they both have casual and hardcore games. The XBLA has plenty of great casual games and there are plenty of casual games that have been released for it. As of now the balance between casual and hardcore for the Wii is more on the casual end but as soon as games start coming out for it this will change.

What did you think of the RE4 Wii edition? I played the GCN and am SO glad I bought the new version. The controls are absolutely phenomenal and the visuals, IMO, oust a lot of 'Next gen' titles to date. I JUST got a 27" LCD HDTV and RE4 Wii and Gears of War look freaken sweet.

i think people dont get what Alex means when he say he doesnt see the wii as a gaming console. He was comparing it to those TV games that were so hot the past couple of Years. You see these systems are not really being bought by casual gamers. From my view (not worth much im sure) It seems to be trend chasers and nintendo faithfuls that are buying the system. Almost all of the older or female Wii owners i know were given the system as a present, and when the family or boy friend is not over it goes into the closet.
Dont get me wrong im glad the Wii came out cause as it does well its gonna force Sony and MS to make some changes.

You've got to admit the shows have been so unwatchable lately.
Let me count the ways.
1) They mumble all the time. 1/2 the time someone isn't even miced properly
2) They aren't talking about anything
3) Dan and Jeff are totally at each other's throats and it makes Dan more quiet because he's such a "sensitive and polite guy" that he'll step aside when someone is louder than him.
4) Jeff comes across (I said comes across... I don't know him personally and this isn't a personal attack) as being a complete asshole. Just watch the faces he makes. It's so ****ing unbelievable rude to make those asshole "I can't believe that" faces when you are in a social situation... much less on a show... he just comes across as being an asshole.
5) They aren't even prepared to do a show when they tape. They could at least be a little organized.
Sorry for having an opinion. I want to see Rev3 to really good and make lots of money. If they keep putting out unwatchable garbage I'm not the only one who's going to quit watching.

He did mention it. Every time I hear the name Ishmael, I think of Moby Dick. I think that is acceptable, no?
I read Ishmael a while back. I was, and I may be lynched for this, slightly disappointed. Don't get me wrong, I loved it. But I went into it after hearing everyone say it changed their lives. I was expecting to see new colors or taste chicken differently. It definitely gave me a different perspective, but wasn't as life changing as I thought it was going to be. But +1 for the gorilla. If memory serves, Quinn did a follow-up called My Ishmael.

I completely agree with Dan and Alex. There is an over-saturation of comic book film adaptions. But Hollywood will bleed the very life out of every single comic book hero it can until the next idea comes along. They got 30 years out of the slasher horror that rarely deviated from; Screamy girl, evil man, sharp pointy objects, blood.

Ok now to the show.
Oh man thank you thank you. Wednesdays are my favorite day of the week, well after Thursday but I'm not an single 18 year old anymore. Anyway the show was awesome, the intro kicked ass as per usual. Is there anything wrong with "the usual" when it kicks? Alex's mind being blown, Steve you're the man. And Jeff buying the PS3. Well good luck sir. The Tron interstitial was so rad it inspired me to go find my disc and fire that bad boy up so much for more Top Gear and Cash Cab. One thing I will say the spoilers while you haven't ever yet well "ruined" a plot or idunno threw out the ending I feel like it's becoming a norm do we need to talk about all those things or is it just when your talking amongst yourselves does it just kind of come out? Please just keep them coming I have no real complaints. Awesome job guys.
BTW totally with Alex on the classification of the Wii bottom line here is that with the other two you are buying them knowing full well you are going to do more than play a few games. Now how are you going to compete in the long run when others are offering content that you can't even match because the system has not nor was ever intended to be designed to do. Not calling it second rate but really I don't fire up the (friends) Wii unless I've got a good reason to otherwise I think it's just going to sit there. Oh and said friend he's over in my room watching and playing or jamming on my 360.
Ah I wish the episodes were 2 hours. They always seem to end too soon :P
I do agree with Alex that the wii isn't really a real console. It reminds me of those weird music players that Disney came out a few years back that could only play songs from these special chips and each chip only contained one song. Just like how that shouldn't be considered a real music player, the wii isn't a real console.
I was disappointed that the book session was so short and that Alex and Dan didn't really like Cat's Cradle. Hopefully you guys will like the next book and have a lot to say about it :)
Jeff, you're so hot.

Just a note.
…authors like Lewis also get a little credit.
I for one am perfectly ok with that… Narnia, at least wasn't all that profound in my eyes, even ignoring blatant allegory.
The funny thing is that LOTR and Narnia both derive a lot from the Christian traditions of good and evil. However, since Narnia is so much more blatant about it. All the flower kids from the '60s didn't give it as much respect.
What made LotR so much more of a deep story, beyond obviously the massive creative effort on Tolkien's part to give solidity to his fantasy world, was influence of the ideals at the time; an England having just fought a World War, the massive changes of urbanization through Industrialization. This added depth makes any religious allegory present less potent, certainly less obvious. Personally I don't buy the LotR/allegory connections; most simply argue that the story fits a classic tragic hero story structure, and since religion does too so must Tolkein...
Kind of like you kind find a quote in the Bible to support any argument.
Much of Tolkien's source influence came from old german/nordic literature/stories (where he got the elves/dwarves etc).

Saying the Wii isn't a "real" games console because it doesn't play the games you want is like saying Nickelodeon isn't a real television network because it doesn't air the shows you love. Idiotic--the world does not revolve around your rectum. I haven't powered up my Wii in ages, but there's no denying that it's completely changing the business landscape of gaming, and we are going to feel those effects.
I was really hoping we were going to get an exploding toast with the teacups at the end of the book club segment.

Ah I wish the episodes were 2 hours. They always seem to end too soon :P
I was disappointed that the book session was so short and that Alex and Dan didn't really like Cat's Cradle. Hopefully you guys will like the next book and have a lot to say about it :)
Jeff, you're so hot.
agreed. book section should only be played if you all have read it and have input.

Yeah, he wrote a sequel which wasn't really a sequel as it ran at the same time as Ishmael, but with a different student. I read that first and I like it better than Ishmael, though it basically goes through the same ideas, as most of Quinn's books.

My last meal would be Chicken Corden Bleu, prepared and served by Alex and Heather. That way, the meal could be the method of execution. It could be a real time saver.
Just kidding guys... you know I love you..

Good show as usual.
Alex sure drinks the haterade for the Wii huh. I love mine, my 4 year old loves mine and my wife loves that we can play a quick game and put it away. Sure it can't compete with the PS3 and 360 for hardcore games and next gen graphics but I don't care, I haven't gotten the ring of fire on my Wii ;)

I heard Alex admiring Linguini's acting in the movie. Well to add some extra props both Lenguini and Remy's brother in the movie were voiced by animators at Pixar.
How rad is that??

What did you think of the RE4 Wii edition? I played the GCN and am SO glad I bought the new version. The controls are absolutely phenomenal and the visuals, IMO, oust a lot of 'Next gen' titles to date. I JUST got a 27" LCD HDTV and RE4 Wii and Gears of War look freaken sweet.
Freakin' sweet. I didn't own a GCN so this is my first time playing it. At $30 it's a must buy.

Wii - PS3 - 360 : They are all built for fun. From a market standpoint, I think the real test with the Wii will be games. Of those who bought a Wii, how many will buy a new game every month, every other month? I have to be honest - it is fun, but I do not see masses that own the Wii buying a new game on a regular basis, where as the PS3 and 360 fans will be buying a lot more games.

I know this guy is banned, and maybe this should be a dead topic. But I have to say: what the heck is this guy talking about? Especially "Dan and Jeff...at each other's throat"? Is he even watching the same show? I swear I lost a bunch of brain cells just trying to understand where he was coming from.

I know this doesn't count as Throat-worthy, but what a about Dan admitting being sick of the Movie news, an Jeff's utter disbelief about his stance, while Alex is off screen trying to play peace maker by clarifying Dan's point.
More pillow fight than fight club and not even a fight at all really, but I did like that segment of the show because I feel exactly like Dan does. The news doesn't change just the names do, its like Mad Libs with celebrities and 80's pop culture.
Kinda got the feeling that Jeff felt Dan was truly sick of the TRS movie news segment as a whole and not just the spate of repetitive stories.
Alex's point about burnout is true too, whether its too much of a good thing, or too many good things gone bad, like the hulk or superman or fantastic four, who's attached to what doesn't do it for me any more.

Okay... first things first. I am pretty much a Nintendo fanboy - I've had every Nintendo console since the NES and I loved them all. Nintendo do games the way that only Nintendo seem to be able to. This didn't stop me from getting a PS2 along the way and enjoying games like FF7 on the PS1 and many other great games.
Bearing that in mind, you might want to take some of my ranting with a reasonable sized pinch of salt. I'll try and stick to facts as much as possible though.
Alex is so wrong. I mean, there's wrong and there's wrong and then there's Alex. I have been playing video games for at least the last 16 years and, in my eyes, nobody who is a real gamer can say that the Wii isn't a "real" games console. Sure, there are a lot of games that are casual games, but there are games out there that are proper, hardcore games- many of which show that the Wii and it's control scheme do add something new to the mix. Not just new, but an improvement. The best example of this is probably RE4 but there are others out there. Mario Strikers, for example, is the first football (soccer for you yanks) game that has kept me entertained for more than an hour in a long, long time. It's a very subtle addition, but flicking your wrist (not the only option) to tackle your opponents players is strangely satisfying.
RE4 is interesting, because you can make a direct comparison between the control scheme on the Gamecube (which is also the control scheme that the other 2 current
gen consoles are more or less tied to) and the new "tacked on waggle" controls. Pretty much every review out there says that the Wii version is the better experience. If early indications are anything to go by, Metroid Prime 3 will finally nail FPS control on the Wii as well.
Even ignoring the new way of controlling things, you get games like Super Paper Mario that introduce new ways to play with the 2D to 3D mechanic. More games like this will come to the fore through Wii's lower development costs and eventually through WiiWare.
Pretty much everything that gets reported about the PS3 and XBOX360 games coming out seems to focus on the amazing HD graphics - the "awesome" HD version of Street Fighter II is a good example of this. People on sites like Kotaku (maybe literally) drooling over HD sprites of Ken, Ryu and Co. The core gameplay mechanic is going to be exactly the same. Alex was right about people not being able to afford a new HD capapble console AND an HDTV - this probably sums up the majority of consumers. Even some that could afford it probably wouldn't want to lay down that much cash for a new console.
Exactly because of this, you get the situation where the Wii is slowly, but surely, catching up to the XBOX360 install base and leaving the PS3 in the dust. Global sales numbers? Sure thing:
XBOX360 10.1 million
PS3 3.6 million
Wii 8.6 million
This is even after the fact that PS3 and Wii came out around the same time and the XBOX360 has been out more than twice as long. Have a look at the sales chart (aligning sales so launch dates co-incide) here and you'll see what Jeff was talking about on the show. (might take a while to load)
http://www.vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=All&cons2=X360®2=All&cons3=PS3®3=All&align=1
Wii is selling SO much faster than the other consoles that it could even exceed the 360's install base before the holiday season. By that time, according to Nintendo, Metroid, Smash Bros and Mario Galaxy will all be on sale and then anything could happen. That's not even counting the "non-games" like Brain Age etc that will draw in even more new/casual gamers.
To think that the Wii can/will be ignored by the development companies for much longer is pure denial. The DS basically did the same thing. Wierd control scheme coupled with a comparatively (to the PSP) hardware spec beat the crap out of all the competition and is currently the best selling console of them all. Games started off being a but rubbish, with only Nintendo seeming to be able to get the most out of the system. Eventually, the other devs caught up and started releasing great games that use the strengths of the system (Hotel Dusk, Ouendan and Trauma Centre for example) and now you get one of the biggest franchises in Japan - Dragon Quest - getting its next incartaion on the DS instead of any of the HD consoles.
At the moment everyone, including Nintendo probably, has been caught off guard by the amazing start of the Wii but devs will have to start paying attention to Wii. If the Wii gets in enough homes, devs will have to shift focus because thats where the most potential for profit is. It doesn't take a genius to see that larger potential sales minus much lower development costs equals better business sense. At the end of the day, games developers are businesses - and one of the biggest industries in the world.
Right... I think I'm done. There's much more I could say but seriously, Alex, if you read this (not likely, I know) I hope that you can see that there is a real chance that there will be a major shift in the home console market - in the same way that there has been for the handheld market because of the DS. As soon as one company starts putting out proper Wii games (and starts raking in serious amounts of cash because of it) the other devs will folow.
P.S. I am sure there are loads of typos in my post.... it's just too long to proof read. Sorry!

I don't know if Alex really wanted to "start a flame war" but maybe that would be a good first step ;)
I haven't got anything against the other consoles out there, so a flame war wouldn't hold much interest for me, but his comment about the Wii was so obviously wrong to me that I actually took the time to register and post my rant...
It's actually a shame that Jeff didn't have these numbers/graphs to hand because I would have liked to see what Alex's reaction to them would have been. It's hard to argue with the numbers. Maybe Alex is just a bit of a Microsoft fanboy - which is fine by me given my views on Nintendo - but that doesn't mean you can't recognise the strengths and successes of other companies/products in the same field. I love my PS2 for so many things, but given the choice between a Nintendo console and a Sony console, past experience would make me go with Nintendo every time.

EDIT: Did anyone else notice the low level sound througout most of the show? Kind of like crickets or general "woodland" sound recordings. I found it a bit distracting.
This is exactly what Jeff was trying to say on the show but the other guys didn't seem to get it. Given that the PS2/PS3/XBOX360 all follow similar initial sales patterns, look what happens when you compare the PS2 sales with the DS and Wii. DS has an even steeper curve at the moment than the Wii. All indications are that this rate is simply because Nintendo can't produce Wii's or DSs any faster than they already are.
http://www.vgchartz.com/hwcomps.php?cons1=Wii®1=All&cons2=DS®2=All&cons3=PS2®3=All&align=1
If the Wii pans out anything like the DS, then there are bound to be big 3rd party games for it. It would be stupid for them not to do it.

I can't understand the thinking behind why the Wii isn't a console. Because if that's the case, I'm going to need the definition of what a console is. It's not a console because it doesn't have Gears of War? Because it's not HD. I'm sorry, but that **** is superficial. The ps2 was the least powerful system last gen, and that was #1. The ps1 was more or less the least powerful system of it's gen, and that was #1. The DS right now is less powerful than the PSP and it's owning everything.
What qualifications do you need to become a real console? The Wii has EA games like Madden and Need for Speed. It' getting Manhunt 2 (someday, maybe). It has Godfather, Scarface and is getting a Driver game. I'm not saying that these are the greatest games, but they are the same games that are getting released on the 'real' consoles.
I'm fine with people not liking the system, but I'm going to need some argument as to why the Wii is not a real console.

I don't think there is an argument as to why the Wii is not a real console.
After calming down a bit - the fanboy is strong in this one, after all - I think that all Alex meant by his comment was that when he thinks of what he likes about gaming, he thinks of features that Wii doesn't offer. It could be coherent online play, other online content like XBLA or marketplace, mindblowing graphics and games that he hasn't played on PS2 already (there are a few). And what people get out of gaming is a personal preference.
Some people can spend hours and hours playing Freecell - are they gamers or not? I know I've spent many, many hours playing some very simple PC games myself.
The Wii will offer some, but obviously not all, of these things in time and in order to win over hardcore gamers that think like Alex, it will need to do more than simply rely on "wooo, motion control - it's like magic". I honestly belive that by the end of the year a lot of these issues will be addressed and Nintendo will be in an even stronger postiion than it is now. Until now, Nintendo has been going after the new gamers pretty much exclusively, but hopefully that will change soon.
If Metroid Prime 3 is as good as the previous games, looks better and the motion controls are actually found to better the experience then it should pave the way to more traditional gaming experiences and this type of gamer coming to accept or at least coming to conside the Wii as a gaming platform for them.
But seriously... Alex knew that what he was going to say would cause issues and I think he loves it. :D
I don't know if anyone has said anything towards this yet, but I have to say that was the best opening to the show yet, dead on and amazing.
Keep up the amazing work guys.

I really think, and hope, that Alex was trying to say that the Wii really isn't in the same console market as the PS3 or 360. Meaning, when people are trying to decide which console to get it becomes PS3 or 360. And then there is a separate choice of whether to get a Wii or not. Here's my analogy... It's like a lunch meal, the 360/PS3 is your choice of sandwich and the Wii is a bag of chips. Which in all honestly is a great way for the Wii to go, as it means a lot of PS3/360 owners have bought Wiis as well.

just a comment, I have always been the gamer in my family and am usually playing with the latest and greatest technology, but this time around it's my brother. His friends and him whom are not gamers at all have purchased Wii's. They could all care less about graphics and like it for the social aspect as well the activity level involved.
So now the roles have changed and I feel like I am missing out on something.

I think in the end, that they are all great consoles (Well, except for the ps3 that's just an over priced hack of the 360 :D ) Each console has something unique about it that gives enjoyment of play regardless of the class of player (hc or sc). I think what Alex was trying to get at (and didn't quite articulate it properly) is that the WII is "different" in it's handling of game play and graphics. Face it, you couldn't play rainbow 7 or other games like that on the WII for 2 reasons: Processing power and graphics ability. I think games such as that is what alex meant about "Hard Core Gamers". Where as the WII is centered around lighter side games (typically) such as Paper Mario Bros and wii sports, etc.. I don't think it's any less of console in playability, it's just different from what most perceive as a "Hard Core Gamer unit"..
Besides...My Intel 6800 extreme based system w/ 4 gigs of RAM and a BFG 8800GTX/768 meg video card coupled with 4 20" monitors basically kills any of em..:D So there!

Oooh, and I was this close >---< to reading the rest of your post, too.

for alex - http://nexgenwars.com/ a place where you can see the total sales numbers of the next gen consoles. 360 is still in the lead with 11.2 mil, but i remember it being at either 6 or 7 million at wii/ps3 launch time. wii is at 8.3 so its sold double what xbox has since its launch. depending on when it hits the ceiling, it looks like it will outsell the 360

Aaaagh! I have been watching this on and off and while I really want to like it, the show is really terrible. The movie review is way too long and in-depth. The videogame section is extremely weak for anyone who listens to a decent gaming podcast like 1up Yours or the CAGcast. The segment on NPD was so painful this week, I just gave up on the show. It seems that Alex is just very anti-sony and that they don't understand the broader perspective. Jeff really disappointed me there. I love iFanboy and Diggnation so I'm really hoping this gets better.

I like the direction the show is going to. For someone who's a general fan of all the categories, it gives me a good (broad) taste of what to expect in whatever they're reviewing. I love the movie reviews, and I think thats their specialty and its nice that I can get a basic overview of TV and Game news in one sitting.

I think that the reason some people are getting all up in arms is that they feel that people will take the contents of the show as authoritative in some way. Now there's nothing wrong with trusting what people say - especially if they seem to like the same things that you do and consistently give advice that seems to be right for you.
The problems come up when the show contains inaccurate or plain wrong information. I know very little about comics and I rarely analyse films beyond "omg that was great/awful" so those sections are great for me. What I do know about is gaming - so if there's something said in that section which is either wrong or even just goes against what I view as being the reality of the games industry, it's much more likely to get me riled up.
If you factor in the fact that TRS has a wide variety of viewers, probably with self-proclaimed "experts" (like me) for each of the sections of the show, then you see that they are in a very difficult situation. Most people will just enjoy the show, but there are enough fanatics out there to cause a stink if there is even the slightest error or controversial statement on the show.

I think Jeff, Danny and Alex are smart and funny. I think they know a lot of interesting stuff. Furthermore, the forty some-odd minutes the rad-boys spend on the internet reminds me of the day when I had more time to hang-out with the boys having a few beers, playing cards and generally talking shit. If one of my buddies proclaimed that he hated the movie "The Mummy", I wouldn't tell him that he was an ill-informed hater that didn't do the research and the he was unqualified to make a judgment because he walked out on the movie. I would smiles and say that I liked "The Mummy", I might even explain why or maybe we'd just go on laughing about it.
I think that Alex just loves pulling a Dvorak.

its worth noting that in the gaming industry, the wii is considered to have a pretty poor attachment rate - that is games/accessories bought to consoles sold.
The main reason for this is the lack of 3rd party based games, and the fact that after a few months of owning a wii, for the majority, the novelty goes away.
It has also been noted how hard it is for developers to write for the new wii controller, something which I hope wont hinder the 3rd party games.
Conversely, the 360, has a high attachment rate, and based on games available, is outstripping the ps3 no end...
just an observation. This is possibly expected in a console that is considered, for the casual gamer... Interesting chat in the episode though.

apologies to alex, i guess I just dont see him that way! lol
I thought it was a good discussion, about whether the hardcore element will be diluted by the introduction to the masses of the wii or casual gaming.

i have to agree with this. although Jeff takes the soft spot in my heart. Dan is also beautiful, yet he looks like my uncle so its a little wierd.

which part of the ending of Ratatouille made you cry? I just watched it and I did not find the end that heartwrenching...
