Ahh the alternate reality universe. A stable in any comic book universe. I thought this thread could be a great place where we could share our favorite "multiple earth" like tales. Maybe it could even be a place where we could share story ideas ("What If... Brian Michael Bendis wrote Daredevil/Batman":D)
With books like What If..., Exiles, Elseworlds, Mutant X and Tangent Comics, their never seems to be a lack of stories for these characters.
What's your favorite story? I always really enjoyed the Age of Apocalypse. I thought it was fun to see the entire x-universe reinvented in an (for lack of a better word) apocalyptic world.
I also really enjoyed Superman:Red Son. The battle between commie Batman and commie Superman was fun and the only time i can recall supes beating bats.
My favorite issue of What If... that i can recall of the top of my head was What if the Marvel Super Heroes had lost Atlantis Attacks?. it just ended on such a downer.
You can find a complete list of What Ifs here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_What_If_issues)
Any ideas guys?

That What If? Is probably the one that has stuck with me the longest. I love the panel of Doom’s last stand against the serpent monster. I also enjoyed the What If Punisher Killed the Daredevil. Seeing Punisher have to shoot a drugged up Peter Parker about to kill him was pretty big to me as a kid.

Stupid question, but isn't Earth-616 an alternate reality depending on your perspective? The Supreme Power heroes are from Earth-31916.

the what if series was probably one of my favorite as a kid. they were great to pick up out of the quarter bin, one and done stories. they also set them up pretty well too. I could buy any issue and they would tell you who the major characters were what had happened in 616 and how it would have changed (usually for the worse)
another one i really enjoyed was the two part What if the Phoenix had not died?/what if the phoenix rose again? issues
anyone ever buy the collected What If... trade they put out?

if you check the wiki entry in my post, it lists universe numbers next to some of hte what if issues, apparently some were delegated a number. Are we Earth-1?

What if the Hulk went berserk?
What if Thor and the Avengers fought the gods?
What if the Hulk had become a barbarian?
What if the world knew Daredevil was blind?
What if the alien costume had possessed Spider-Man?
What if Phoenix rose again?
What if the Punisher became Captain America?
What if Iron Man sold out?
Haha Good ones
I love the concepts behind these two:
What if Sgt. Fury had fought World War 2 in outer space? (what if eh?)
and
What if the Hulk went berserk? (uhhhhh, WWH anyone?)
Does anyone know why the marvel U is called the 616?

I LOVE the Exiles.
I was always a huge fan of What Ifs? and Elseworld titles, and the Exiles seems to be the next "logical" step.
The book pretty much expands on some really great ideas. Not only does the team itself visit different realities, but the teammates themselves are from different realities. So it's like a double dose of weird worlds.
The main draw for me though, is the fact that people leave the book all the time and new members join up. No one is safe, nothing is really sacred.

Hey, what's Nocturne doing nowadays?

I thought she was really cool in Exiles. But dropped the book because it got terrible after a while.

I bought the Amalgam comics trades a while back. They were clearanced at my comic shop to like $8 each. So funny, with such awful stories. Mostly just Lobo the Duck though.

Didn't she join Excalibur? Wasn't she in a coma or something?

If you don't mind me enquiring, at what point did you drop the book? I personally left comics shortly after the book started coming out, and only recently (the past few months) got caught back up on the Exiles.
I know there were one or two points I was left scratching my head, so I'm curious if it was the same for you.

Yeah she did. I actually picked up an issue of Excalibur because of that. Man oh man was I lost.
Nocturne was a really good in Exiles, especially her stuff with Thunderbird/John Proudstar.

About the time of House Of M. I wasn't into it for that long though.
Eidt: Oh no. Wait, I read up until they met up with Squadron Supreme.

Say what you will about the series itself, but I always thought that House of M was a cool premise for an alternate reality. A nice reversal that hadn't really been explored before, and it was fun to see how each character was affected.
Amalgam was amazing and hilarious. When you think about it, that must have taken a sh*tload of work to put together. Where's my Spider-Boy miniseries?!?!

Where's my Spider-Boy miniseries?!?!
I hear ya!
I actually was working on a Spiderman design for the re-imagining thread and realized that it looked REALLY familiar. After a little bit I realized that it was heavily influenced by Spider-boy. I think that was my favorite character to come out of that event.

I really wish some of the things that happened in HoM had stuck though. Especially, w/r/t/ Spidey viewing the life he could have had with Gwen. That was an excellent story line which contrasted nicely with his 616 reality and put Peter in a difficult position from an emotional standpoint. Would have liked to see him try to deal with that a little more. Maybe feel a little resentful toward MJ because of his experience during HoM. The possibilities were there! But they blew it.
In the end it felt like all we really got out of HoM was Hawkeye and the ONLY cool costume the Scarlet Witch ever wore.

According to DC, we're Earth-Prime

so what do you guys think of having the DCU and WildstormU connected by the bleed? i'm hoping to see a bit more crossover between the two universes (now that it's been established the Wildstorm earth is one of the 52). Also do we know if there are any plans to explore the other 52 in any sort of detail? has it been in any books already?
Im thinking that it will play a bigger and bigger role in Countdown and that the new crisis will have something to do with the 52 parallel earths (am i pointing out the painfully obvious here?)
Now that we have the 52 im hoping we'll get a few more Elseworlds books, but that could just be wishful thinking

I haven't read a Wildstorm title since the original Authority days, so forgive me for asking this question. Are any Wildstorm books big sellers? I know they did some relaunch thing a few months back, but did it help anything?
The reason I'm asking is, between the rumors and the fact that it fits DC's pattern, I believe that the Crisis that Countdown is leading up to might lead to the condensing of the different realities. If they did this would that mean that the Wildstorm line would be cancelled? Or that those characters will be moved over to the DC universe? Just wanted to see what you guys thought.
