I'm getting kind of suspicious at all this spam I am seeing, all the time. I then looked at the registration form and you don't have to put in a code to prove you are a human. Maybe you guys should add that.

Don't allow new people to start a thread must have like 10 post or more or something would stop some spambots.

yeah and it would force new people to interact a little and maybe there wouldn't be so many repeating thread (just look at the TRS board)
that is a great suggestion

It has been suggested by many people for quite awhile just they don't seem to listen though. It might be in the works though since there was a thread that new stuff was in the works for the site.

Maybe Sarah Word (http://blog.sarahlane.com/2007/07/sarah-rises-fro.html) coming onto the scene will bring about some changes?

I much as I don't like spam-bots or dick heads who just come to mindlessly complain. Fielding more "energetic" recommendations and observations is really part of the mission of such a forum.
However, one of my pet-peeves is newbies posting random stuff about certain episodes that are outside the dedicated threads. I feel that once the dedicated threads are established, no episode specific comments should be allowed. Unless, of course, the topic merits it's own thread. This means a tiresome editorial approval process for new threads.
Long-time posters also start frivolous threads, myself included. Therefore, a mod-maintained (not user maintained) karma system would be better.
In any case, A place for random threads is always a good idea.

it might not be possible with this software, but i don't knowDefinately possible, and a lot has been done behind the scenes to eliminate a lot of the spam - primarily by IP range blocking from known sites.
Its a dual edged sword - on one hand yo want the forums to be as open as possible without an elitist "you must have X post counts to contribute" attitude. On the other, it would eliminate a lot of the SPAM ... but not as much as you would think. There are apps out there that know the backend of the software, and push messages to those servers. CAPTCHA systems do little to prevent those type of incursions.
All in all though, you see a lot less spam than does actually get posted. Apart from a period overnight when we are asleep in our various time zones, spam gets stomped on pretty quickly. I am on and off the forums most of the east coast day (I keep a window open with Rev3 most of the time - so see the spam appear pretty quickly), and others cover west coast and other time zones.

I would love to do a forum where peope have to pay to get in, not to be elitist, just that it would keep turds out of the forum. The downside is some don't have any means of paying, even if the cost is $1 a year.

This is what Leo Laporte does with his TWiT forums. No pay, no play...
Frankly, I'd miss a lot of the guys around here who don't pay. Miss them enough to send them gift memberships.

Pay to view or pay to post?
THe problem with pay to view forums is that people are unwilling to pay for something that they might not use. Maybe a "free" trial (LOL, that sounds so weird) period that woudl help users to get a feel for the forum and then they get shut off unless they pay.
