Hey, just remembered (courtesy of TWiT) that Grand Central is still in invitation only status. So if anyone is interested, i've got 10 invites that i can had out :)

You can either PM me your info, or put your name & email in here and i'll send it off -- you can probably use an alias and change it later, but i'm not sure right now (i'm in class  )

Alright, here is a bit more information. If you're not familiar, GrandCentral (http://grandcentral.com) offers a pretty cool phone service. While i don't use it for what's offered, i've had it for around 6 months and it's worked well -- but i only use it to have a local phone number in Washington, instead of a NY based number.

Grand Central ties all your phone numbers into a new one. So basically, if you have a home phone, a work phone, and a cell phone, you can connect them. The catch? Well, you have to get a new phone number. But, that new phone number will ring all of your phones when someone calls it.

On top of offering that, GrandCentral gives you a new voicemail account, which you can check either from any of your phones or from your computer. You can save addresses & phone numbers, store and / or download voice mails, etc. You can also set a custom out-going ringtone -- but that has recently changed since the Google acquisition, and i haven't checked what's allowed since.

Another cool thing is, when you get a phone call it asks you what you want to do:
Press 1. to accept this call
Press 2. to send to voice mail
Press 3. to send the call to voice mail & listen in on it
Press 4. to accept and record the call

and at any point during a voice mail you're listening in on, you can jump in and answer the call. And i think you can record any call as it's happening too, by pressing * -- but i really haven't played with the features too much.

Okay, i'm done rambling about GC. Feel free to ask questions though :D

Sure ill check it out. Be like Leo i say, try everything you can get your hands on. Besides, it does indeed have some neat features and when i get my iPhone friday and get my new number, ifi can re-direct customers through a service like this so they dont have my real number ( if im reading the service right ) that would be so sweet.

Yeah, that's kind of what i use it for.. and it's also a number i'm willing to post up to social networking sights -- not for ones like Pownce, where you friend everyone, but sites like Facebook where people i haven't talked to in years track me down. That way, if they start calling me and i'm not into it, i can easily block them through the service - and when they first call and i don't know who it is, i can send 'em to my voice mail and listen in to see who it is! :)

One thing that i haven't looked into yet is minute usage. I have to imagine that it uses minutes, regardless of who the call comes from - and seeing as a majority of my friends are all on verizon (as am i) i'm hesitant to fully switch over and give up all those free minutes
