This looks to be a pretty awesome game being made by Valve. It will ship with the new Half Life game in October. Here is a video of some of the gameplay.

Oh yeah, I forgot that's shipping in the Orange Box too. I'm gonna have to pick that up, Team Fortress 2, Portal, and Half Life 2 with Episodes? Yes please. I feel bad that they scrapped the Black Box version for all the people who played HL2 before.

This is, of course, from LAST YEAR'S E3.

Ah, but the thread title is accurate, if not vague. :p

True, but I thought it was new footage, and I hate being disappointed, which is why I walked out of a pirated showing of Transformers.

Could someone confirm, I was under the impression that although they scrapped the Black Box version, you could still get only the individual things a la carte through steam.

yes, the "Orange Box" is going to be the box they put on store shelves. Like every game on steam, you'll be able to buy it individually, and most likely they will include a steam version of the Orange box, and probably the Black box as well.
It should also be noted that this release has been delayed because they were redoing the source engine to be multi threaded, something that I believe is a requirement for it to run on the 360.

Best part about that video is the creepy robot woman saying "If at first you don't succeed, you fail"

Yeah its a bit out of order but the game comes with the 3 seperate codes on the PC side so if you want you only have to activate the new stuff (TF2, Portal and Ep 2) and sell/give away the other. Not as good as a cheaper Black version I agree but it's something.

The 360 and PS3 versions (not sure if PS3 may have been canned) were not the reason for the delay it was simply because the game was not to the standard VALVe wanted it. So instead of being truely episodic its took on the 'when its done' moniker.

I never said it was the 360 or PS3 versions that are at fault. I said it was being delayed (not sure about the most recent delay) because they are multi threading the Source engine... And they are doing that because they want to release it to consoles. and by "it" I don't just mean Episode 2, I mean HL2, both Episodes, Portal and TF2.
I agree, Steam has done a really shitty job at doing "episodic" content. I'd say large content "episodes" should be 6 months to 1 year apart, and not longer. Though I think the issue with Valve has been that they are not just releasing the episodes when they are completed, but are trying to bundle them together with other games, which is NOT how episodic content should be delivered.

I really can't wait for this it's been so long in the making. The gameplay videos give me a gamer semi.

And what, exactly, does that entail?

I believe it's more of an emotional erection rather than a tangible one. Perhaps it involves the thumbs somehow...
