hi guys,

i am about to purchase an appletv, having made the decision to go all apple for my media needs.

previously a wintel jock, that understood (and used) the benefits of the linux world, i am now wrestling with the switch to a macboy...

this will be a progressive switch, but first up is the appletv and i NEED to do all the mods that i have been reading about. all the tutorials/guides/etc state that the work has to be done on a mac, then reinsert the disk. however we all know its a *NIX engine under the hood (BSD, i think...)

my question is, because i dont have a mac, can i do this work on my linux box or is there some restriction or requirement for doing it on a mac? it seems that it is only linux utilities that are being used from the command line, i.e. "dd", etc...

may sound a silly question to others, but it may dictate the order in which i have to purchase all that lovely mac hardware!

regards,
