View Full Version : My modded Wii works, wiily!

So after being a nervous wreck for sending a new Wii a modchip and $65 to some guy in Florida (whom some believed had, in fact, ripped me off) to mod my Wii, I finally got it back today and it works like a charm. The WiiKey can play Original games, backup games, GC homebrew, everything but DVD movies works (unfortunately). Dan, my offer (http://www.revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=7737) still stands. If anybody here would like to know who I used, here's his email: xboxbiz@yahoo.com. To mod a wii is somewhere around $100 w/o a chip, and $65 with. I had bought a key from modchipstore and sent that with my wii for a service of $65, but apparently it was a clone, cheap bastards, so I bought one from the guy and I'd recommend just doing that.

Now granted, I'm a cheap bastard, a college student no less, so the choice to mod was out of financial necessity, not petty greed. Thank god I live next to a state that has accepted piracy as the social norm, All Hail Cali!

... Do I sound like spam? I sound like spam, don't I? I feel icky. This is what I get for working in retail. This should probably go in teh broken, but nobody goes there anymore.

How long did it take to get the wii back? Does it still work ok?

modding a wii yourself is not a very complicated task. I installed a wiikey into my wii during the summer and have never looked back. The wiikey is just 5 or 6 (very small) solder points, took me about half an hour to get it done. If you are at all handy I recommend doing it yourself. The money you save you can use to buy a nice soldering iron, to mod your next console purchase.

yarrrr dont worry about being a pirate, and welcome to the club matey. Avast, Super mario galaxy is on the horizon, yet it is upon us pirates today.

I've been a Wiikey user from day 1.

It works ... and that's all that matters to me.

Since then there have been many new chips, but since I don't realy need anything else, i'm not paying attention.

Ooops, big mistake, don't expect to be able to play Super Mario Galaxy now you've modded your Wii. Apparently the update on the Mario disc means that the game won't load on a modded Wii unless it's using a D2Ckey modchip. Also, Nintendo are adding these anti-piracy updates to the majority of 1st party titles from this point on.

What Wesley said. Don't update your Wii and you are going to have to find a way of playing games without the updates (if that's even possible). I say, get another Wii. Play legit games on your regular Wii and everything else that will not update your Wii on the modded one. I haven't found a good reason to do this so my Wii is regular since launch.

Also, modding is simple and you could have bought a game (or more used/gamefly) with that money.

Just mod handhelds. its WAY easier, and totally software based (PSP custom firmware FTW).

The updates and Mario Galaxy thing is a non-issue. Most chipmakers have released updated firmware and many people are already playing Mario Galaxy.

I've got the CycloDS Evolution and love it, and love the homebrew program Comic Book DS and the Heroes comics. I just wish there were more comic titles available.

I played mario galaxy all weekend on my wiikey, no problems. This is definitely a non-issue already. If i've learned one thing in my life its that extra anti-piracy protection only slows down pirates for a few days (sometimes just hours).

M3 Simply FTW!

Yes, that too :)

Nothing like carrying 20 games around in your pocket, haha.
