View Full Version : Totally Rad Show BG image...?

I know there is a thread that talks about people creating a "Totally Rad Show" background image for use on the show (the one the guys stand in front of at the start and end of the show), but I haven't seem a template anywhere for it. Am I just totally blind or what? Or isn't there a template? All of the viewer submitted ones I have seen all have the same font, so it looks like a template to me. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Submit a background for the show!
Here's your chance to make TRS into the show YOU want to see!
Step 1: Design a new virtual set for our Movies, Video Game, TV, or Comics section. It can be hand-drawn or CGI, realistic or cartoonish, animated or static. It can be on a spaceship or outside in a Tolkien-esque village. Be creative! And remember that we will fill most of the image, so save your best stuff for the gaps between our heads.
There is a Photoshop preset that is perfect for our purposes:
HDV 1920 x 1080 (with guides)
Height: 1080 pixels
Width: 1920 pixels
Resolution: 72 pixels/inch
Color Mode: RGB color 8 bit
Color Profile: Working RBG: sRGB IEC61966-2.1
Pizel Aspect Ratio: Square
Step 2: Make it rad.
Step 3: Submit your creation to fans@totallyradshow.com
We will periodically change our backgrounds to include viewer submissions. If we use your work, we will credit you on the show.

The background on the show also tend to all use the default TRS logo, but they edit it to rad-i-fy it. Where can we find a high resolution copy of the logo to use in photoshops?;)

I'm pretty sure what they mean is they are looking for the vector outline, at least for the typeface. It's recreate-able if you have the fonts (I sussed the fonts out earlier, but can't remember what it was. Arial pops into my head). The issue most will face, though, is having the proper weights of the typeface. Once you know you have them, though (I don't) the actual building of the logo is fairly simple.

some guy made this wallpaper, you could probably vector trace it

I'm sure you could.. but it'd be a trace of a trace, which isn't all that accurate. If you look at the wallpaper vs. the actual logo you'll see subtle differences.

true, but i doubt that'd matter if you submitted it.

Sigh, but I couldn't trace to save my life... Never even use vector programs, sigh:(:p
Just find it odd they haven't provided a template... On the show always looks to me like the logo's are pretty much identical, except for the rad effects. Ah well.
I will try my best to trace one.. dunno if it'll work tho. If somebody makes a good trace be sure to share it on the forum, ok?:D;)

Anyone got a vector trace of this, the links in this thread and the other Wallpaper thread don't seem to work.

I've got the template that the guys sent me. Its too big for me to attach on the boards here. Anyone know of a good free file host? I'll host them and post a link for you all.

If you can mail it to me, I'll put it in my Skydrive and share it for everyone. Drop me a mail to wesleythomaswilliams (at) hotmail (dot) com

Please post a copy of the link to the Flickr group too, if you don't mind. Or send me a message and I'll post it. That'll make it a lot easier for people.

I'll work around this template once I have my own template finished.

just something I whipped up in celebration of bioshock a couple weeks ago. Probably will just start from scratch on the little buildings on the bottom and not use the ones in Illustrator that i penned out. Will be porting it into Maya and making a 3d TRS/Bioshock background. Possible animated.

This may sound like a n00b question, but I didn't quite understand what that was a link to.
I tried to download it, but it was all kinds of binary science I don't understand!
I think it was the answer to the question of life, the universe and everything, but i'm not quite sure!

Hmm... Won't open properly in the Mac version of Illustrator (CS2) :(
Any chance you could email the template to me as well?

^All I get on the supplied links is a bunch of code when I open it in CS3 on PC too, weird. :(
However, here is a PNG with a transparent background, just 'right click' and 'save as', works great in Photoshop.

Wes' file works on my Mac... the Windows Live interface is just a bit ambiguous/misleading (Shock! Awe!). rather than save as on the icons, just click as if it were a link, then click the giant icon on the page that loads. The file will still be .ai.html, but if you strip the .html AI CS2 Mac will open it just fine.
And, of course, I'm going to have to use the TRS logo as an excuse to put the new Capture One beta through its paces.
Oh, btw Wes thanks for posting this, I'd been holding off doing a new background until I had a proper vector file.

Try exporting that illustrator file to an SVG so we don't have to have our bank accounts raped by Adobe to use it. Some people use faster, daring, open-source programs like Inkscape for vectors.
