If I remember correctly it was Return to begin with. Then they thought Revenge would be cooler. But fans hated it, saying a Jedi wouldn't seek revenge. So they changed it back to Return.

Yeh Lucas originally intended it to be revenge but then decided revenge isn't a trait for Jedi.

My friend's family has had one for years still framed. I used to see it all the time and it never dawned on me that it didn't have return on it.

Besides, Return of the Jedi works on two levels. Luke becoming a Jedi and Vader returning to the Jedi.

He pretty clearly states he wanted the title to be Return, then someone thought the title was too weak and they changed to Revenge, then it was changed back to Return back because a Jedi isn't exactly one to be seeking revenge.

This is correct. The original title of the script was "Return of The Jedi", the studio thought it was a weak title and asked Lucas to change it. However, he changed it back just before release.

But when you realize that Luke Skywalker was supposed to be a dwarf....
