Sure, It was already covered in TRS ep 16, but the hd trailor recently came out and I figure you all are super excited too.

I personally think the monster is NOT "godzilla" or a "lion", but Cthulhu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu), one of HP Lovecraft's monsters.

I've also visited the Slusho (http://www.slusho.jp) website and didn't find anything overly obvious, but was wondering if anyone else has...

Cthulhu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cthulhu), huh? That would be interesting. I would probably see it then.

I personally like to believe this movie is set in 1984. In the world created by the Ghostbusters movies and the monster is actually the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.

how do you make a movie about a god that can't be beat?

It's an equation. Make it so that God is to invincibility as Harry Potter is to "suck".

Oh this is all Lovecraft's stuff? Interesting. That taps into some interesting stuff, Crowley and the world of "real magic". I spent some time looking over all that stuff when i was younger and still trying to figure it all out, so it could be a lot of fun for me if they do it right. Then again it could really suck like every other movie i have seen that tries to draw from this subject matter. I still dont know what to think about it, but it does have a potentially epic feel to it in the trailer. Like its something different some how, i cant put my figure on it, but is a blair witch kinda thing. Some sorta realism is coming through. But like i said, its just a trailer, we shall see.

I will say this though, since lord of the rings it seems film makers have tapped into something in us that evokes that .. well for lack of a better word .. epic feeling. That larger then life amazing sensation. Transformers has some of it and a few other movies that just ran out of my mind as i was typing this. I hold hope for it cause im becoming a real movie goer anymore.

I agree with the (rather) recent "epication" of big budget movies.

Mr. Abrams is going to be making some announcements apparently at comic con next week.

The Voltron Blog now titled Voltron: The Movie 2008http://www.voltronblog.com/

A YouTube video was posted in the website (although we could see nothing in the clip...) but if you link the clip back to YouTube, you can find the description "011808".

Would the Cloverfield be a Voltron movie?

the name of the video on youtube is "black", and is voltronblog an offical site or a fan site?

Hmmm... Viral marketing at its best, thats for sure.

Does he say in the video " omg its a lion its huge " or "omg its alive its huge" i cant tell. The roaring perks a ear for sure, if this is a voltron movie the effects look promising.

There is just no knowing anything at this point i think. In a few months more info will be trickled out and we will know better.

That looks kindof (actually a lot) like a hoax site.

I'm optimistic about this movie. The shaky cam doesn't bother me, in fact I'd be fine if the whole movie was shot like that, but having it be kinda like a flashback while most of the movie is shot normally in sort of a post apocalyptic/Terminator in the future/Reign of Fire/dystopia kinda vibe would be awesome as well.

I still think its a new IP. Not an existing one.

I agree, but also take into account that the current trend in TV and movies and games is bringing back the past in a epic way. So i wouldnt discount it totally. Sure would be nice if it was something new for a change.

I still think Nine Inch Nail's Year Zero viral marketing was the best I've seen, and I think it' still going on for that matter.

i doubt it. Mighty Cthulhu can't be killed or even harmed. Mighty Cthulhu sleeps at the bottom of the pacific ocean waiting until the star are right to awaken and reclaim it's throne as Ruler of Everything. man is not even worth Mighty Cthulhu's notice.

Why do people find it so hard to believe that the movie is an original concept? Must every film that comes out now be a remake or based on an idea from someone else? How about some original content that can then be remade in 20 years for my kids to enjoy?

don't be fooled by the handicam thing. all this is treaser footage. there is a good chance it won't even be in the movie. remember the movie just started filming.

So Here is a big break in the project. Apparently it is called Monstrous according to this movie poster. So now we definitely know it involves monsters or monstrous things.:D

No it was a kid with a cell phone. The movie would be an original, not a sequel or a remake of any other movies.
And I have the teaser running on my ipod and the guy is definately saying, "It's a lion, it's huge!".
And the roar sounds similar to 'the bloop' (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/2/25/Bloop.ogg), so Cloverfield will probably be about the Cthulhu or the Cthulhu Mythos.

comhcinc
07-25-2007, 01:47 AM
there are no lions in any of the Cthulhu Mythos

Yea im doubting its voltron too.

Ok i just watched the apple trailer instead of the youtube version and its clear he says " its alive its huge ".

Well one thing we see is the statue of liberty head, so what ever it is is out in the water. JJ abrams was executive producer on LOST for some shows, so if anyone is familar with the show we know how dark and twisted it can get. I think your right kahley. Fitting right in with Cthulhu. After some research i came up with this quote

Human followers gave him a way to reveal information about their "gods" in a diluted form, and also made it possible for his protagonists to win temporary victories. Lovecraft, like his contemporaries, envisioned "savages" as closer to the Earth, only in Lovecraft's case, this meant, so to speak, closer to Cthulhu.

Sounds like perfect movie material, with room for sequals. Im gonna research lovecraft more and keep a eye on it, but so far im on board with Cthulhu

On a side note anyone see this ? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0796366/ JJ is directing a new star trek, interesting.

Entertainment Weekly just put up this article about the new poster:

"J.J.'s Mystery Movie: Secrets revealed!
An exclusive peek at the new teaser poster for J.J. Abrams' latest cinematic enigma -- codenamed ''Cloverfield'' -- and a few other hush-hush details

By Jeff Jensen

Jeff Jensen, an EW senior writer, has been despondent since the cancellation of ''Twin Peaks''

J.J. Abrams sure knows how to tease. Earlier this month, the pop auteur (Alias, Lost, and Mission: Impossible III) ignited a firestorm of curiosity by blowing the head off the Statue of Liberty in a grainy trailer for a nameless film. Now he's upping the intrigue with this teaser poster.

Unofficially known as Cloverfield (the name of a street in L.A. where Abrams has an office), the film, at press time, does not have an official title. If you're looking at that gargantuan hole bored in the Manhattan skyline and thinking, It's a monster movie! — congrats, you're right. Scripted by Lost writer Drew Goddard, the movie reunites producer Abrams with Felicity co-creator Matt Reeves, who's directing and shooting it cinema-verité-style on digital video. (Think Blair Witch and the City.) The cast is made up of relative unknowns, with the lead being played by Michael Stahl-David (The Black Donnellys). As for the monster itself, contrary to Internet speculation, it isn't a parasite, and it ain't a colossal Asian robot, either. (Some suspected Abrams was mounting a live-action version of the Japanese anime/manga classic Voltron. Nope.) For more teasers, visit Abrams' new site, www.1-18-08.com. To be continued, for sure..."

This is gonna gnaw at my curiosity for the whole rest of the year, thanks a lot JJ Abrams!

I was reading the news over at Rotten Tomaotes when I saw this........

J.J. Abrams is definitely crafty when it comes to building buzz for his projects, as we've discussed here ad nauseam for the last few weeks while breathlessly reporting the tiniest ripple of activity on Star Trek XI and Cloverfield (or Overnight or Monstrous or Ha Ha, I Ain't Telling You the Title, Film Nerds -- whatever it's really called). But is he crafty enough to leave a fake call sheet spoiling the film's ending in the hands of a dirty blogger?

He'd better hope so, because New York magazine's Vulture blog is claiming that one of its editors wandered over to Cloverfield's Manhattan set recently and lucked into a major scoop:

While we were near the film's set on the southwest corner of Central Park, a random crew member handed us something interesting: a call sheet for "day 33 of 33" of shooting that appears to give away Cloverfield's ending — and alternate ending! Major spoilers ahead, obviously.

Obviously.

We aren't going to spill the beans here -- heck, we aren't even going to read the spoilers -- but if you can't resist a sneak peek at how the movie apparently ends, it's all laid out at the link below.

http://nymag.com/daily/entertainment/2007/08/clover_field_wraps_and_weve_got_the_call_sheet.htm l

Do you guys think this is just another marketing stunt? Or the real ending before we even know the title?

To be honest, I was really hoping for Cthulhu. I thought it would be amazing to see a monster movie where it's apparent, if not obvious, that the monster will not only win, but he'll take over a whole lot more than just a city, and the movie is more about how these people handle the inevitable, or go into denial.

I had it in my head that it would be ol' Cthulhu, more in the background than anything else, and it would focus pretty much solely on the group of friends (and their trusty camera!) as they tried to survive in the city. Maybe it still will be more about the characters than the monster (not interesting in a movie about just a monster, personally), but five will get you ten that they win in the end. Ho hum.

Was really looking forward to the monster winning!

its pretty clear that this is just the sequel to the Garfield movie (perhaps a little darker, but obvious nonetheless)
