We have been doing outdoor movies for a little while but I am now stumped for what movie to do next. The group includes smart tweens, teenage cynics and various aged parents met through my kid's school or that I am related too. We did "Star Wars: A New Hope" last month but it didn't go over very well. It was too dark to show up that well outside. The best movie we have done outside is the "Fifth Element". I think it went over well because, it is a good movie, it wasn't that well known for the audience (they are pretty mainstream group but are open-minded) and the colors were really bright so it popped beautifully off the screen.

I need suggestions. I have been stuck and obsessing and then it occurred to me that this forum probably would be the best place to get advice about this.

Help!

Diane

Provided noone is suicidal or mentally off balanced, Donny Darko might work.
I also get a kick out of The Incredibles ... and it is brigh enough to project well outside.

try any of the Indian Jones movies
id say go for mostly adventure type movies, since they are crowd pleasers and span the whole spectrum of audiences.

That's hard to say because we don't know what they like or is approved of, but check these out:

Click
RV
Night at the Museum
Talladega Nights
Stranger than Fiction
Sahara
Just Friends
Benchwarmers
Fast and the Furious movies
She's the Man
Troy
Devil Wears Prada

These have brighter colors and more family-oriented content, but I don't know their taste in movies. These were pulled from Blockbuster's top 100 movie rentals, so a lot of people must like them. I've seen them all except Devil Wears Prada and know they're good/decent flicks.

Oh, and don't forget the classic The Goonies.

I'd have to claw my eyes out to watch Just friends, Benchwarmers, Fast and Furious sequels, She's the Man, and especially Night at the museum again. You could not get me to watch them for any amount of money. Stranger Than Fiction would be a great choice though.

I would try Logan's Run, The Odd Couple, The Princess Bride (if it's not too dim), Tron (dark backgrounds offset by bright foregrounds and characters), and maybe give Ghostbusters a try.

No one mentioned lord of the rings? The perfect outdoor movie.

Braveheart
Highlander
Enter the Dragon
George of the Jungle
King Kong
Jungle Book 1942 version or the disney one.
Pirate of the Caribbean
Gilligans Island
Waterworld
Smurfs and the Magic Flute ( ok thats just for me )

Just a few off the top of my head. I dont know how serious you are about production, but im imagining its pretty low, so these would work great for imagination driven movies.

Just Friends and Benchwarmers are kinda funny actually.

That's just a few of the many good ones out there.

How the hell does Blockbuster suck any less than any other movie store?

Thank you everybody! What great suggestions.

As much as I would love to watch Jaws and 300 outside, Anakin is only 8 and I have a feeling he is just not ready for that level of violence (though I already have 300 on order).

I never even considered Indiana Jones or Princess Bride, and both are in my top 23 favorite movies.

I think I might go with Indiana Jones and do some stills from online before the previews (we show previews of movies we have heard of that others might not beware of like Stardust and Fido for the last one).

Well, if any of you are in the Cleveland area, bring a chair and join us!

Now I just need to choose between the Temple and Raiders...
