this is for filmmakers like John & Dan:

stray cinema is an open source film. it is an experiment that combines filmmaking with online information sharing. we have just launched our website (www.straycinema.com) where you are able to download, and re-edit the raw footage from a film we have shot in london, providing people from all over the world with an opportunity to create their own version of a film from our footage! this will be the first of many 'open source' films we will host on our website. we have incentives in place, including a london premiere, that will encourage people to come to our website and participate by submitting their version of the film, and also encourage our online community to watch, and vote on the submissions. our challenge to you is to make a better cut of the film than we do. stray cinema is unique from anything else that is happening online at the moment, in that we are encouraging participants to remix one source of footage only, and we will be navigating our project out from the online digital world and into the 'real world', by having a screening. the stray cinema screening will be held six months from the day we have 30 entries into the competition. it will be held in the same city as the footage originates from, this year the location is london. this will involve the screening of the top five film submissions (voted by our online community), vj's mixing raw footage from our film to live music, and interesting ways in which we will include our cyber-community into the event. stray cinema will be an ongoing annual event.

check their MySpace (http://www.myspace.com/straycinema), just in case their official site (http://www.straycinema.com) is down (which is the case, as I typed this)
