Tired of getting reamed for using your Mother's antique end table as your own personal workbench? Well then pay attention as David Randolph and Patrick Norton show you how to make a quick and dirty workbench SYSTM style.

What a horrible, pointless episode. Sorry, but dividing up the same subject over multiple episodes because the staff isn't creative enough to come up with something new (as evidenced by every Systm episode since #6) is just poor planning and utter disrespect for the viewers.

Maybe Kevin Rose has more free time from not doing Systm to do some more thebroken episodes, since that's what started all this.

Staff has good ideas, there just isn't enough of you working on all these projects to make them great.

Hahah, I like the plastic trays too, in fact, a friend stole (i mean, liberated) me one from McDonalds. Ahem, stealing is wrong.

Regarding the plans for the table: It might be better to have the legs set diagonally (the boards lining up with the table points), instead of having them parallel with the table top (pointing in the center of each side). Having the boards on the corners should give the table more stability, and allow you room to get your legs under the table while sitting. Also, you could use a hole cutting bit to "swiss cheese" the legs to make them lighter, and give you an easy carrying handle. Just make sure not to put too many holes in it, as that could lessen the amount of weight the table could hold.

Regarding episode 13 in general: I personally liked the episode. It was short, to the point, and except for the camera moving around, an all around decent episode. Might be nice to eventually see an episode 13a of the entirety of the basement segment.

Thanks to Rev3 and the crew of Systm.

Quoted for truth. I felt like I was going to get flame for saying something negative about this show. But Patrick is great I have always liked him but the new guy I do not like at all. And since this new change I can't even make it through an episode without literally falling asleep.

Were we watching the same episode? This episode rocked.

My roommate in grad school had this book on building furniture from slotted three-quarter inch plywood. He built tables, desks, stands and a loft. All was done with his circular saw in the front yard. After he stained and finished the pieces they looked really expensive. Of course, it helps that he had just quit a career as a mechanical design engineer and was a gifted wood-worker.

I haven't bothered to download this yet (saving bandwidth for diggnation) but does the video drop out ~the 56 second mark? or is it just the flash version I previewed?

I like the episode as a whole. Although I have to say that for a bit less money you could purchase locking hinges and a 2x4 along with a smaller sheet of plywood and had a folding workbench instead, much more stable with 4 legs and easier to setup on your own.

It was a decent episode, even if it wasn't the uber-techy stuff, there's a place for this as well. Keep it up, Dave and Patrick.

I am not really getting the idea of "building a workbench", I mean you can get a 38" folding table in Target for like $20 (and probably cheaper elsewhere). I can understand it if you are the DYI type of guy and want to build everything, but other than that, $20 is not that expensive I think.

The plastic serving tray is a great idea though!

Muffin tins/Ice cube trays also make great small parts storage. Try a dollar/thrift store for cheap ones. The downside? you can't close 'em.

Damn, Bre Pettis schooled Systm. The table looked a little cheesy sorry, but I do like the other new Systm episodes. How about building a Mame machine? Or a "Mame" pinball table? I know it's been done, but who doesn't love Pacman and R-type.

Well, this table will be a shit-load more durable that one from target and about three times the workspace. It won't cost that much either.

true, but a workbench? I see systm more of a technology DIY, not a construction DIY. Maybe that's just me, but I skipped this episode.
