OK, why am I the last person on this planet to know about KMPlayer? Has anyone else heard of it? It is SO much better than VLC it's not even funny. Every single complaint I ever had about VLC this player has resolved. There are SO many features it's not even funny. They put a lot of thought into this program. If you guys haven't seen/heard/tried it, I HIGHLY recommend it.

It plays everything I have thrown at it so far. Pretty damn nice. Plus, you can customize just about any mouse/keyboard button to do anything you want with it. So, if you like the scroll wheel to control the volume or skip ahead or whatever, you can do it...

There are SO many little things about this program that I keep saying: "OHH!" For example, I just noticed that if I scroll my mouse over the progress bar, it will tell me the exact minute and second that my mouse is at! No more guessing where 20 minutes is or whatever if I'm looking for a certain part....

2 things can sell me on this, things that BSplayer did.
-scroll wheel adjusts size of video playing
-video can be used as a desktop background

Winamp went to hell when AOL bought it. Snag an earlier release from oldversion.com. Shoutcast support w/o the Aids, err, ads.

I quit using it awhile back because everytime I tried to connect to shoutcast servers it froze my entire pc.

That would be the flash ads that were added to the shoutcast radio window. DJEgg posted a workaround on the winamp forums if you want winamp, but go with KMPlayer.

Yes, you can do this. You can set this key under the options menu:
OPTIONS => PREFERENCES => KEYBOARD/MOUSE => WHEEL => INC/DEC. WINDOW SIZE

-video can be used as a desktop background
Yes, you can do this as well.
RIGHT-CLICK ON VIDEO PLAYING => SCREEN CONTROLS => DESKTOP MODE or you can just hit SHIFT+ENTER while a video is playing.

I was trying to play an album it wouldn't, it would just play one song over and over. Having to adjust it from being always on top to not being ontop I hate programs that try to be on top. Play list kept vanishing had to keep reopening it. I like a simple player that list all my songs That I don't have to go into the options and adjust things to get it the way I like it.

Hahahahahah! Oh, well then I hope that most programmers in the future are psychic and can predict the defaults you want. Heaven forbid you have to take two seconds to uncheck a check box once.

This is my favourite video player. Its perfect for me since I watch a lot of subtitled stuff and in a lot of formats. VLC's sub renderer looks like ass.

I discovered KMplayer and SMplayer a while back, and as you said they're both FAR superior to VLC. However I use SMplayer because it still retains the simple interface (which I like) while having tons of other cool options. KMplayer has tons of options that I'll never get to use, SMplayer has exactly what I need. It doesn't hurt that it's also highly configurable and customizable.

"One of the most interesting features of SMPlayer: it remembers the settings of all files you play. So you start to watch a movie but you have to leave... don't worry, when you open that movie again it will resume at the same point you left it, and with the same settings: audio track, subtitles, volume..."

I've been using GOM and VLC. Used to be VLC alone, but GOM takes first place.

Not cross-platform compatible, therefor it won't play on my Macs, therefor it can't replace VLC, therefor epic fail.

Try again.

Try again.Cross platform isn't such a big deal - especially for media players you end up with a product that is a compromise, and doesn't leverage the power of the underlying OS.

A carpenter doesn't pick up a hammer to bang in a screw or shorten a piece of wood. You should pick the tool that is best or more appropriate for your OS.

what? but macs do everything perfectly out of the box. they do everything! you don't need other programs because you have a mac!

Why do you keep reviving old threads?
