You cried for an hour and a half?
So they finally had clean water in Jersey, if only for 90 minutes. ;)
I'm kidding - salty tears aren't clean water.

.....
I hate you....
Seriously though, I did laugh at that comment. I've lived here for my entire life, and I've gotten used to pretty much every joke that's been hurled my way.
Funny thing is, I wouldn't want to move. I'm a train ride away from New York City, Fifteen minute drive to Philly, 45 minutes from Atlantic City, and a 2 hour drive to DC.
I hate me more than you do ......
One of the most fun nights of my life happened in Atlantic City. It's fun to joke about Jersey.
It's like Kandahar with muscle cars.

Funny thing is, whenever someone from South Jersey hears people joke about New Jersey, the first thing we say is,
"OH you're talking about North Jersey, I'm from South Jersey. We're completely different."
I don't think there is as much animosity between two Northern/Southern regions like this since the Civil War.
South Jersey seems better to me somehow. I'm not above driving around the state in its entirety though. I've done it before.
Have you ever been to the Molly Pitcher service area? wow. frightening place.
If my car was out of gas I wouldn't stop there. I'd get out and push until I hit Delaware.
kahunablair
11-06-2007, 06:46 PM
I used to have to drive up there by the Molly Pitcher for meetings once every month or so. I dreaded those days more then any other.
That place is ****ed up. I've got stories.

That place is ****ed up. I've got stories.
We should meet there, and we can swap stories. That's neutral territory right?
sorry dude, I WILL NEVER go there again.

You guys can't talk, rough territory for me is like Deliverence
I can imagine. I've never actually been to TN. I'm afraid of being kidnapped and forced to spend the rest of my days milling gin.

Uh. We have a little place called East STL. I think we still have the highest murder rate per something or other. My buddy has a story about accidentally driving through at night and seeing a placed called the "Discreet Motel" and apparently then finding out that it mysteriously burned to the ground.

Well we have Newark..
In 2006, Newark had 113 homicides, the highest since 1995 and a spike from the 83 in 2004, but a substantial decrease since the record of 161 murders set in 1981.[30][31][32] Newark has more than five times the number of homicides per capita as New York City.[33] In 1996 it was ranked "The Most Dangerous City in the Nation."[citation needed] The city is on pace to match or break its homicide record in 2007.
And Camden...
In 2004, Camden was declared "America's Most Dangerous City" by the Morgan Quitno Corporation,[12] up from third place in 2003 and topping the 354 cities studied. The city was named "Most Dangerous" again in 2006 out of 369 cities ranked nationwide,[13] with Detroit, Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri in second and third place respectively. In the 2007 survey, Camden dropped down to the fifth spot — behind St. Louis, Detroit, Flint, Michigan and Compton, California — out of 371 cities included nationwide in the 13th annual Morgan Quitno survey.
and North Jersey REALLY smells bad ;)
You want to shut your windows and your vents when you drive through. It's feels like you're working a backhoe at the dump.

Another satisified customer:
I hate to be all negative, but your podcast is horrible. There's not a whit of constructive detailed criticism contained anywhere in it! I don't want to just hear that you hated a comic, what if my tastes do not mirror your own? I want to know why you didn't like a book, what sucked about it in your eyes, what your history with the artist or writer is? I need more that what you've been giving me. And you need some way to mute your breathing it's overpowering your speaking voice on the podcast.
If you use my comment I'd like my email address kept out of it. I've kept a copy just in case this request is ignored.
It made me laugh so I thought I'd share.
I hate to be negative but everything you do is terrible. You suck at life. Open a vein.
And who exactly will get me if I use his email address? The internet police?

I'm not beyond that!
Inside info: I did try on a few new voices this week. I was going to do an entire "in character" episode, but the sick thing was fucking me up so I just played it straight.
Episode 26 is late
Had to go to the emergency room last night. I have bronchitis. You know what they say: no breathing, no talky. I'm going to try to get it out in the next few days. I haven't even read my books yet.

Haha, my favorite book this week only got 30 seconds.
Hey, it was 43 seconds. I felt it was a lackluster issue, or at least in comparison to most of this week's books.

Fred you're completley in love with Astrid as well aren't you?
if only she were several years older ... at least one. ;)
I'm kidding. Come on man, she's only 11 years older than my daughter (will be ... in may).
Honestly though, I relate to her. It's not a crush thing.

Astrid is so two months ago. Dave is the cool SubGlam character to fall in love with these days. I want that guy to be my best friend.

Him reading Astrid's note was probably my favorite moment of the book thus far.
That was the coolest thing ever.

McKelvie's art is incredibly effective in it's simplicity. It's kind of amazing the kind of ideas he gets across very fluidly and sub conciously.

It's right there in the name. I almost made a joke on the show about nobody cool ever being named Neil. I was going to play the odds that I don't have any listeners named Neil. Decided against it.

thanks. Yeah, I had a lot to get in this week.

It is. The "going up the stairs" panel that I went on and on about earlier - so perfect. I felt like I was looking directly into her.
Hey all
It's time for me to hang it up. The podcast was fun while it lasted, but I'm going to pack it in. I'm really thankful to all of you for supporting me over the last six months or so.
It's gotten to the point where I don't even really enjoy my comics anymore. I've turned something that I really enjoyed into work. It happens; I've done it before and I probably will again.
It's all just become too much. It's too much work for one person with a full time job and a family. It's too hard to force myself to be "on" when it's time to record and I don't feel like it. It's too much to power through all of my books as fast as I can on Wednesday so that I can get the show out as soon as possible so that I can get to sleep. It's too much work to add on to an already busy life. It's time that I could be reading, watching a movie, or writing.
I've been struggling with this for a couple of months now. I want to keep doing it. I like all of you and appreciate all the support. It's gotten to the point though where I feel like vanity is the only thing keeping me doing this. A few hundred people seem to care what I think of Countdown or Nightwing (for reasons even I don't understand). It's hard not to let yourself be caught up in how cool that feels. In the end though, I've got to keep it real. This is the end.
Thanks again everyone.

Even if you don't do the podcast, what if you just put up the grades? Yeah? Yeah?
I might still do that. It's not always going to be on Wednesday though.

Hence the "as you feel led" comment! :p
Win-win-win situation.

dude, fred man, that's some real bad news. i loved your 'cast but i can completely empathize with your reasons. fun while it lasted i guess. are you going to keep the site, summaries and stats going?
Thanks Mike. The site is still up. I'm still posting there. I'm not sure how much else I'm going to be doing.

I can empathize with the feeling of turning comics into work. To sit down and have to critically think about every comic you read can be really tiring.
It is a thin line to walk when you take something you love and put yourself in the position of having to start thinking about it too much. Sometimes you find yourself growing as a reader because you are challenging your own preconceptions, other times you can set yourself back because you become intent on finding something in a comic that isn't there.
The one way I have found some fun balance is just reading old comics sometimes....stuff that I don't feel I have to over analyze. It kind of gets me back in the mind frame where I can still find fun in new comics.
Someone cue the violins for the podcasting pity party! ;)
I really envy the situation that you guys have too Tom. One of the problems is that sometimes I just don't feel like doing it, but I'm the whole show. If I suck, the episode sucks. It has to be great to be able to hang back a little bit or to have people to feed off of and help you get into it. It's really hard doing it alone. We shouldn't go into the full-scale pity party on this, but it's really hard to be "on" when you don't feel like it.

I just wanted to say thanks, Fred. It was quite fun and I know I'll miss it.
I honestly have no idea how you were able to read all your books and get a show out by the next morning.
I tip my proverbial hat to you, sir!
Thanks Kahuna! I appreciate all of the support that you guys have given me.

Are you hanging up the Podcast hat for good? Or are you going to occasionally throw out the Fkldsjflsd Plogger shows?
I think I might be done, but I'm not certain.

Well in that case, that does indeed suck.
It was great while it lasted though brother, and I once again commend you!

I guess I can't speak for everyone, but I think it's a fairly safe bet for me to say if you ever decide to come back to this, you don't need to have a show up by Wednesday night. I can see how trying to power through books and get that done can account for a lot of the stress.
That said, I totally understand. Glad to have listened, and glad you're going back to enjoying the comics.

Here's the thing, you've got a family and a full time job, then you started to do this, turning what was your hobby into another job. As much as I loved it, the show couldn't have increased your love for comics and if it was at all lessening your love for a hobby that used to be your favorite, then stop doing that thing.
You've got my support.

I'm going to leave it in my iTunes
just once in awhile if you can let out a 15 second primal scream and put it in the feed when you read something horrible that would make my day, :D
Be well ! and have fun getting back to enjoying your books (except Wolverine Origins)

Hmm after reading through this forum I tried Comics This Week podcast and discovered that the last show was 1/30, any plans to come back?
Thanks for checking it out. I don't plan on bringing it back anytime soon. Sorry.
