Movies, toys for the movies, comic books that are loosely based on the movies (example: Spider-Man's "Black in Black" arc coming out the same year as Spider-Man 3), video games, a bunch of cross overs (Civil-War, World Wide Hulk), blah blah blah. I swear, it is insane.

I've got to think that the comics don't directly make too much cash for them and the REAL money comes from all the licensing and movie-rights sales. But without the comic characters, they'd have nothing to license!

What do you think will make more money "The Dark Knight" or "Iron Man"?

That is awesome. Hopefully they get enough to make comics got back down to a dollar.

When I first saw the thread title, I was expecting to see Marvel licensed cookie dough that came in that shapes of Spider-Man or Captain America.

I'm a bit disappointed to not find it here, really.

Hmm, that's a good question. Batman Begins grossed about 371 mil worldwide but only 48 mil opening the first weekend in the US. Sequels tend to do better, so I'd say we're looking at 450-500 million worldwide. It would be tough for Iron Man to top that.

I'd heard before somewhere that Warner wouldn't even publish comic books if it weren't for the profits from merchandise.
