Okay, G4, I've had enough. After watching 75 hours of coverage of SDCC 2007 I figured I should go ahead and go next year. I should go ahead and book now, right?
I couldn't find the official site of the con to buy tix or get info. Any help? I also need hotel info as I'm unfamiliar with the area. I'm all about convenience and short walks. Thanks!

Are you really bad at google? :p It's OK. G4 makes people stupid.
Get a hotel as soon as you can. You're looking in the gaslamp district. The closest hotels are the Mariott, the Hyatt, the Hilton, and I think the Hard Rock Hotel is opening across the street.

I googled and the first two pages were full of people's pictures from comicon's past. I typed several configurations of 'San', 'Diego', 'Comicon', '2008', 'official site', and 'tickets' and came up with nada. You guys are much faster!

that coverage was pretty ridiculous, although i still respect them for devoting all that time to it. But basically they helped emphasize the fact that the con seems to be more about hollywood than about the comics

Definitely going next year, this years con was a total blast. I hope the iFanboy gang is there again as well, the party this year was awesome and great way to cap off a night.
As for AotS, maybe I'm biased, but G4 does basically suck (especially after destroying TechTV). As for Munn, while she's definitely hot, AotS is just a bad show.

I was the associate producer on Filter for about 6 episodes. Then I produced the five episodes of "The 100 Greatest Video Games of All Time" with Hal Sparks. The number of times they made me cut out jokes and clever stuff in the shows in favor of boring bland material was maddening. And they didn't want to extend my employment after that.

I would very much like to go. Question though. Is it possible to get by without spending a thousand bucks on the hotel bill? Because my preliminary search looks bleak (especially since most are already sold out... or is part of that because it's a year ahead of time and they haven't updated the availability in their system?)

Car rental is like 24 at most places. It's preposterous.
Also, Paper I am making the logical leap that when you say "I'll be in a bathrobe and moccasins just about the entire time we're there." you mean in San Diego, not just at the hotel. As such, it will be very amusing to spot you walking around the con floor that way. Hey, take along a towel and you can just say you're Arthur Dent.

I dunno, maybe through hotels.com there's a rule, but I definitely rented rooms at age 18. Maybe you need to call the individual hotels. You DO need to have a credit card.
Here's a tip: A cab from the airport to downtown san diego is no more than $12 before tip. Not a backbreaker.

The tip is get a hotel next to the Con Center, in the Gaslamp district. Don't get a rental car (parking near the Con sucks), and take a cab from the airport. Everything you need is in the Gaslamp so you can just walk around. I did the rental car thing last year, and walked this year, and the walking is better situation, and it saves you money.

I asked about hotels for 2008 while I was there and was told "We're sold out". I said, "say what", they said "let me rephrase: comic-con has already reserved ALL of the rooms."
I just sent an email to the exhibitor coordinator asking when the rooms are going up. I'm an exhibitor and not having a room yet makes me nervous. Between my staff and I we'll have 4 kids ages 4-7, so anywhere outside walking distance will not be pretty. :)

On another note, does anyone going to San Diego want to split a room? I figured it would really cut costs. If you don't want too, you wouldn't really have to see me at all, I just thought it would be cost effective. So, I know San Diego is the big one... and it's kind of more for the experience than anything else right?
What are the best Cons to go to for the comics? To find new books, meet the right people, etc?
It sounds like a lot of you guys are going to NYCC, WWC, WWP, Heroes...
If you were limited to about 2 of them, which ones would you recommend hitting?
I'm def. going to NYCC and I'm planning on SDCC. I'll be certain one way or the other in a month or two.

Ok, so I'm definitely in for Wizard World L.A. :)
I'm strongly considering WonderCon instead of San Diego, though....
I hit Wizard World LA on a whim last year, and I have to say -- it's a NICE contrast to SDCC...It was wide open, lots of room to move, lots of people you can sit and chat with, and it still has some of the same booths and vendors that SD has...
Fairly similar to Wondercon, actually. I used to go to that every year when I lived in the Bay Area. I might even take a trip back up there for it this year.

You're absolutely right..and yet...you really DO have to do it for the experience. So I'd still make San Diego one of your stops, if you can do it.
I'm sure iFanboy's gonna have another drink-up this year...right, guys?
so there's your added bonus. ;)

When do San Diego rooms go on sale? I'm very nervous not knowing that.

I don't know exactly. I've never actually successfully booked anything through the con, and I go every year.
Here's the thing: while it's totally cool to be right there by the convention center, there's still good public transit in the area, and it's pretty easy to get around. So, even if you were to wait until March or April (as I sometimes have), you can still find something. I've often booked rooms south of SD, and then taken the trolley in every day. Lots of people do that. You can actually book a pretty cheap room that way, if you're on a budget.
That said, I'm fully intending to get something closer this year, so: out mah way, *****es!!!
(I kid, I kid :D )

With this being my first time out of Canada alone and all, I'd like to try and not get lost. Also, the plan is to (possibly) split a room with someone, so that should cut down on costs.
Oh well. I guess I'll continue my weekly checks for now. Come December/January I may switch to daily. =p

Totally understand, and it sounds like a good plan. That said, I will say that it's very easy NOT to get lost. Just follow the steady stream of convention goers. You'll spot them easily. They are your brothers-in-arms. And sometimes your brothers-in-full-costume. :D
And if they seem unfriendly at first, just shout "In brightest day, in darkest night, no convention shall escape my sight!" and they'll help you right out.

We need an iFanboy mantra or something. A chant of greeting.

I have a suggestion for our chant/greeting...
Baby I'm hot just like an oven
I need your lovin'
And baby, I can't hold it much longer
It's getting stronger and stronger
And when I get that feeling
I want Sexual Healing
Sexual Healing, oh baby
Makes me feel so fine
Helps to relieve my mind

Perfect choice. But we get to show our individuality by delivering it different ways, right? I've got a gangsta rap version I'm working on. Can anyone here beatbox?

I was heavily considering SDCC, but we've since blown savings on a new couch and bed. So it's probably just Chicago. I'm still considering NY though. That would be a bit more budget friendly since it's just a train ride away and I'm a little more familiar with my choices as fair as cheap accomodations go.

We only come and visit after everyone third Friday when our government checks. The rest of the time we drink moonshine, so when he can hit up Papertopia's fine liquor stores, we jump on the chance.

I'll come to Philly if I end up ruling out San Diego. It's going to be hard enough to work out the logistics and everything else for two shows. I can't possibly do 3.

I just wonder why Philly is so low on the list. I mean Bendis was at this year's. Hell, I was at this year's. Of course I wasn't a noted celWebrity yet... ;)
I don't have anything to compare it with though.
San Diego is reported to be 70 degrees year round and located right next to an ocean. The 140,000 people are the only thing that make me a bit reluctant.

I would head to every convention ever, if more of them were in the summer. I don't have the time to take time off work or school during the year. Today I picked up two extra courses, after midterms, that need to be completed by January.
PS
Remember that eye twitch you guys were talking about? I think I have it. Well, I know I have an eye twitch. I just think that it's stress related.

But you have to go just for the experience. Its fun. If only I could find a job and place to stay there, i'd move there.. I love San Diego..
