Find the blaring red walls for the set distracting?
I do and also find it kinda hurt my eyes.

Said the man typing in bright blue letters with a heavy block signature...
But, yeah, no. I like the red.

Blues and Greens have been often regarded as colours easiest/soothing for the eye while reds/yellows are often the hardest/most intense for the human eye.

I actually like the walls a good deal to be honest...
What i find distracting is the woman on Webbalert (http://www.webbalert.com) (who's name i forget) and how much she moves her freaking head around while she talks!!

And light/dark contrast has always been more important to perception than color...

I thought blue was considered a harsh color on the eye. Thats why cars like BMW's have orange gauges.

Not so much to enhance it as not to harm it. The lower wavelength colors (red being the far end, visible) affect night vision less than the higher wavelength colors do (blue, green, purple).
Edit: substitute frequency for wavelength there and it makes more sense.
I haven't noticed any distractions on the show, I find it fine.
