I saw that the official wireless adapter for the xbox 360 is $99. This is really expensive for what I believe is plain USB wireless adapter.

My question is, could I buy those cheaper USB wireless adapters made by Linksys, etc. and use it on the 360?

I really do not want to spend a $100 for wireless, and wired is impossible, so any cheaper solution is appreciated.

Thanks

no clue....I know the $99 looks nice on it.
But i still do wired gaming...I will do wireless sooner or later but not a big deal to me yet.

No, I tried that. Only the official one works, but it works damn well, and it looks good too. Fits perfectly, warrantied, etc.

I found it for 80 dollars at my schools bookstore :P wahoo! It is way pricey but that is Microsofts philosophy, no 3rd party stuff. That is why guitar hero guitar costs more on Xbox than on PS.

The only USB one that works is the official one, but you can use the ethernet based wireless adapters that worked with the original Xbox like the Dlink DGL-3420. I used it with my Xbox and it worked fine so I now use it with my 360. I found it on sale back when I got it for $40 (I think...it was a long time ago, but id was definitely under $60)

I used a Linksys wireless adapter (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16873999102) for awhile and it worked perfectly fine. Not the cheapest thing straight up, but if you can find it on sale and with the occasional rebate it can be much much cheaper than the official 360 adapter.

i started using the Linksys wireless gaming adapter (802G) on my old Xbox for years. So when I got the 360 I said screw it, I'll see if it works. It's been rock solid ever since. Never any lag or dropouts. And my 360 is about 20-25 ft from the router. I'm very happy with it.
