The night was dark, as they are wont to do. However, considering day and night only applies Earthside, the statement is irrelevent.
Actually, in space, it is always dark (it's just how things work-- physics or something), and that, it turns out, is where our adventure takes place.

In the corridor of the spaceborne vessel stood a man. His readily apparent gelling of his hair made him look like a punk rocker in the early 21st century (or so he thought, but there was very little left of that time, so there was no way to be certain).
This man was standing in front of what looked like a blank wall, completely smoothe and devoid of markings. He reached out his hand in the shape of a fist and made as if to punch the wall. As he struck out, his hand passed through the wall as if it was water and immediately what was once a wall was now a show of pyrotechnics, which soon cleared to reveal a doorway.
"Hey, Al." The voice came from a man sitting in a chair beyond the doorway.
"Hey, Dan."
"What brings you to this part of the boat? Don't you have work to do or something?" Dan raised an eyebrow.
"Ha! Me? Work?" Alex started giggling uncontrollably.
Dan sighed and said, "Come on dude, we need someone to give us regular readings from external sensors."
"Oh, don't worry about it. Steve's already on it. Right, Steve?"
A disembodied voice filled the room, "Hehehe, you know my name! *Ahem* Uh, yeah, I've got it covered."
Dan looked at Alex and grimaced. "Why do you call it Steve. I thought we all agreed to name the ship 'The Titanical Rabid Sealion'."
"Oh, come on, Dan. That name would derail any conversation."
"So why not call it TRS?"
"Okay, fine. But the AI is Steve."
"Whatever."
"I'm sorry to interrupt you guys, but there's a what appears to be a pod approaching from 500km. I think it's Jeff."
"Jeff?" Dan and Al said at once.
"Yes, sirs."
"How long before he'll be here?" Dan asked.
"He's already docking."
*****
Jeff stepped out of his pod, cast his eyes upon Al and Dan, and said, "Hey guys, what's going on?"
"Wait. . . What's going on with us? Why don't we start off with what's going on with you?" Al said.
"I suppose you're right. Uh, I don't know how to say this, but uh. . . The Shield is on it's way to destroy Planet Q. Heh. . . heh. . . heh?"
"Wait, what?!" Al said, clearly taken aback, "The Shield? Our greatest foe ever?"
"Yes," Jeff said, quite serious now, "The Shield, the greatest foe ever, is attacking planet Q."
"Dang it!" Dan said, "We just got them out of their space-time loop, too. What are we going to do?"
"We're going to defeat him once and for all," Said Al, quite unaware of how cliche he was sounding.
