HA! I brought up that MJ statue today (http://www.thisweekincomics.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=42) without realizing there was a bit of a stir on the forums about it. The outrage seemed totally ridiculous and overblown.

Unless there's some new thing to go over with it, let's move along. Btw, Adam Hughes was like the best interview. He was so nice. I don't know why, but I was intimidated by him for some reason, but I didn't have to be, obviously.

I didn't know! Figured everyone has enough sense to realize many comics are just fantasies. :p

Perhaps because you knew he was probably tired of the whole J-May tatuesay* thing.

Awesome episode! I loved how wiped everyone was at the end. It brought back bad memories of how sore I was on Sunday. The ending credits, hi-larious!

God damn it Conor, I had to rewatch Loeb's interview because the first time through I was paying more attention to you and Gordon walking back and forth in the background than what Loeb was saying.
Loeb is great, btw.
You guys are some of the best comic interviewers out there. Josh, you especially had some good ones in this episode. Good questions, phrased well and always seeming very interested in what the interviewee is saying.
And Ron is no slouch either. What a perfect straight man to Loeb.
And some great con tips from the pros. This segment should be added to at each convention and posted as a video FAQ at the start of every con season.

The interviews with the Phonogram guys, Joe Casey and Adam Hughes were great. Josh losing his voice at the end was hilarious (but terrible for him).
Good show, dudes.
The Phonogram guys are a riot! God I love British humor.

Thanks so much guys. It helps keep us going.
It literally took a week for me to get my voice back. There were a couple multiple takes of some interviews as I had to start over.

Regardless of how many people are there and how long I hear people have to wait for panel or signings or what-have-you, the good (up-sides) I hear always outweighs the bad and it's always a great time. Must go again
and Gold Bond, great tip! Never thought of that.
oop! now I gotta go make reservations for next year!
Oh, and has anyone seen the IFC News Specials: Comic-Con Chronicles?
I watched like two minutes of it, it looked interesting

San Diego this year was seriously some of the most amount of fun I've had allllllllll year...all life as well. We had a bunch of great interviews, met a bunch of cool people, didn't see a SINGLE panel, but got a lot of great footage.
Also, we got to see iFanboy's moves!
Great times, seriously. These guys had fun!
I came back ****ing SPENT, though. Just. Spent. We shot like 6-7 hours of tape and I understand Conor's "I had fun, but...let's go" hahaha.
Also, I found my true love...talked to her for three seconds, then kind of did the whole "ok, cool, later" thing. NEVER kicked myself for not following up with contact info more than this year...damn.
Jeph Loeb is the MAN.

Great show keep it up, this show is another reason for me to not work on wednesdays.
Comic-con - 140,000? Pfah!
From Comic Book Resources (http://www.comicbookresources.com/news/newsitem.cgi?id=11678):
Let's get to what everybody wants to talk about - the numbers. What was attendance like at Comic-Con in 2007?
We actually just got our numbers in and the number is 125,000 individuals.
Interesting. Considering people were bandying about numbers like 140,000+ over the weekend, I think that number is going to surprise a lot of people.
I think you're right. We're very meticulous about our numbers. We made sure to get rid of duplicates and make sure that the people who are counted are people who actually attend the show. Remember, one person who attends 4 ½ days is only counted once. It's a very large facility and 125,000 people is a lot of people. Last year we had about 123,000, so we saw a little increase this year. We're very meticulous about our numbers.
Do you have any idea how many of those were exhibitors and how many were press?
Exhibitors was about 9,000 and I don't have the break down for press, but the preliminary numbers we had look to be about 3,000 press.

125,000 + 9,000 + 3,000 = 137,000. Maybe that's where the 140,000 number came from.
Possibly. I doubt it was that logical. I think it was people assuming it grows by 20,000 every year.
How hard is it to get press credentials? I was hearing stories of any bloggers about comics got press passes. Pros are supposed to submit a company ID or paystub. What would a blogger do?

Not hard. Letterhead is really all they want. I assume they'll lock it down at some point, becaus there will be anyone with a blog. Plus, about half of the people there were probably podcasters.

On the other hand, I don't buy their numbres for a second. It was noticeably more crowded this year, something an additional 5,000 people probably wouldn't cause.
You know, all during the convention I met people with different impressions than I had. I thought Preview night was as packed as the heaviest con day while Thursday was pleasantly lighter than expected. When talking to the Mignolas, they said that Thursday was insane, like the heaviest of Saturdays.
Someone said, "Stay away from the middle" both because of the game and major booths and because that's where everyone passes through trying to get to the other side. And there was always a slowdown near the Grindhouse chick.
Outside of Preview Night I didn't think it was any worse than last year but maybe that was due to where I was wandering. Podcasters get the worst of it - you're always trying to get somewhere. That's when the mob is frustrating.
Did you ever put the gear down and just enjoy the con?

Yes, in 2005. :)
Actually, that was what the party Friday night (and generally any time we left the con) was for.

I diverge from my colleague a bit in that I had a great time this year, and while I would have liked more time to wander the floor as a civilian, it was good. This year I really got to talk to people I admire, and actually doing it for the show was a great help in that, because I'm actually quite shy, so if I was doing it for the show, I didn't feel like I was bugging them as much. I know, it's weird logic. Like Conor said, the party was a hell of a lot of fun, as were the panels we did.
And the less time I have to wander, the less money I spend. So there's another benefit.

I heard there were al ot of extra/bigger booths which caused some of the crowding. Seeing as I wasn't actually there, this could be me talking out of my ass.

That doesn't explain the massive lines for panels that, on the whole, were much longer than I have ever seen them.
