I live in South Jamaica, Queens, and I have no shops that are within a reasonable distance. So, until I find a shop to venture to every Wednsday, I've been borrowing trades from the Library, and buying them off of Amazon. How far do you guy's have to travel to get to your shop?

Well I'm 20 minutes into the city, and since I have no license I have to wait until I have some other reason/way in, and from their take a bus, and then a ten minute walk. I usually just stock up on trades, I rarely have time to follow issues, minus a few books that Chapters keeps.

Since the time I was 10, my LCS has been 3 blocks away.
Then a month ago, they put up a sign, they were moving. They just moved in to an open shop that is about a block away from me!

Hmm, about 5-10 minutes depending on which LCS I feel like going to that day. I live in a nice city. :-)

I never seem to be far from a comic shop; though they open and close and move around, it's been years since I was more than 10 minutes from one or more. I almost always pick my books up on my lunch break Wednesdays, and there's a shop 5-10 minutes from work; unfortunately, next week it's moving someplace rather farther away. At the same time, however, the best shop in town is barely a mile up the street from my house. I have no complaints. About this.

The one I go to most is about 20 minutes, there is one closer, but the quality of service isn't as good, so I go where I feel like I'm appreciated.

I've got three to choose from. All take about 5-10 minutes to reach. Lucky me.:D

I live in the Upper West Side, so either Midtown Comics or Jim Hanley's for me :)

30-40 minutes depending on traffic.

Which makes no sense, because I could easily walk to one of the shops in downtown Philly before or after work. I just like my shop in Willowgrove.

I live in south New Jersey and after reading this thread, I realize just how lucky I am. I have 5 “Comic shops” all within a 30 minute drive from my apartment.

2 are real comic shops in the classic sense (Order a little of everything, character debates and other comic discussions with the regulars, large stock of constantly rotating back issues, etc, etc.)

2 are hobby shops that deal equally in comics, gaming, toys, and apparel. You could get your weekly books there no problem, but they have no real back issue stock and most people you talk to there wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between COIE and the Secret Wars.

And lastly there’s 1 shop in the Flee Market or “Dirt Mall” to Mall Rats fans. Not the best place for weekly books, but you can meet some really cool people and often find treasures in their back issue bins.

About 20 minutes to the one I go to currently. There is a closer one that basically only stocks trades and subscriptions. It's just not fun to go in on Wednesday and not seeing the new books on the shelf. I do stop in there for trades if I get the itch for something between Wednesdays.

One just doesn't sell them, the other has a small behind-the counter shelf. I hate it. Your shop makes me jealous.

From my house, the shop is a 10 minute drive, but about 25 minutes from school. I would love to go pick up comics during lunch, but its too far. I like to sit and chat for hours when I go in there, so I prefer not to be rushed.

Also, the shop I go to is REALLY small. I know the owner pretty well, so its fun to chat.

Where do you live?

I live near Albany, NY. The gang thing is kind of a joke. It's a reference back to this conversation that we had a few weeks ago where we were talking about our LCS. My shop is in a really bad area.

I usually go at lunch from work and it's about a 10 minute drive thru back roads of Boston suburb. If I'm at home, it's a 5 minute drive up the road. :) It all balances out tho: I live an hour drive from work.

my LCS is about a 2 minute walk from my place and is right across the way from where i used to work. It's also a hobby shop, so they don't have a wide selection, but if i ever feel the need there are two really big shops about an hour's rollerblade from my house, so on weekends i sometime make the trek there and drop loads of cash on trades, since they have a much better selection than my regular store

My shop used to be only 5 or 10 minutes away. I moved out of town a couple years ago, though, so now I have to drive about 30-40 minutes. I should probably switch to the local place, which is about 5 minutes away, but I can't bring myself to break up with the shop I've been going to for 10 years.

Well, the shop by my office is about a 15 minute walk. Store nearest to my home is about 10 minutes away, by car. My favorite store in the area is about 30 minutes away by public transit (BART).

But I get almost all of my comics by mail order.
