I only got a handful of art pieces in Chicago, but I haven't had access to a camera since, uh, Chicago last year, so while I'm here, here's the ten or so pieces I've had done in that last year since WWChicago '06 that I finally got pictures of. Enjoy.

Hitman by Kody Chamberlain of the upcoming PUNKS series:

A Robin by Adrian Alphona:

Bullseye by Chris Samnee:

The Saint of Killers done Wasteland style by Christopher Mitten:

Continuing...

Dr. Strange by the vastly underrated Mike Huddleston:

And here's a couple I picked up at Mid-Ohio last November (seriously, I need to get my own damn camera):

Black Canary from Mr. Jeremy Dale:

The Demon by Hard Time and The Damned's Briant Hurtt:

And lastly, a couple I got at this year's PittCon (which very well could be the last at this point, durn it):

Hawkman by the upcoming Khoi Pham:

And finally:

Animal Man by Rags:

And that's that. Only about 40 more page to fill and I can finally put this monstrosity away. Of course, that'll be like four years from now, but eh, it's still something to do.

Giddyup...

The Demon and Animal Man are pretty rad. Bullseye is cool too.

That Animal Man one is really sweet.

It goddamn better be for how much I paid for it. Goddamn name recognizability. Most of my fave artists are starting to become popular and charging $100+, and I'm only willing to pay that for a handful of people tops (Rags was one of them, so I had no problem biting that bullet). That's the thing that saddened me about WWC, freaking guys like Tony Daniel and Mitch Brentweiser charging $100 or so just for black and white. I mean, come on guys, Van Sciver just now jumped his prices up to that range, and he's doing the most popular event of the summer. What the heck have they done in comparison?

Big fan of the Hawkman sketch. For whatever reason, that character is perfect material for a sketch.

Funny thing is most guys won't do him. Michael Lark even had a "No Hawkman or Hawkgirl" note on his Commission Price List when I saw him in Pittsburgh three years ago. Heh.

The helmet and the feathers are probably annoying as hell to draw.

Did Michael Lark ever draw a book with Hawkman in it? That's a weird pairing.

Yeah, they are a pain from what everyone I've ever talked to has said.

And I don't think Lark has done anything with Hawkman specifically, but since he was doing a decent bit of JSA related material for a couple months there I think he was getting some spill-over into his Con art for him.

Do you think the Pittsburgh Toy Fair is going step up if the Pittsburgh Comic-Con is no more?

Do you think the owner of that one will try to pull in more of the comics stuff I'm saying.

Hey, God bless free enterprise. If people will pay it, then they should charge it.

not sure about Lark, but Sean Phillips and Brubaker did a Hawkman 1-shot in Hawkman #27 that was a really neat reincarnation story

I honestly have no idea. There hasn't been anything said on any front. No matter what he's going to have to pay some legal fees over this, even if he doesn't get convicted, so I don't know if he'll have the cash to keep it going. There's some smaller cons in the nearby area that might try to fill in like the Toy Fair, but it would probably be huge emphasis on retailers and much less on getting artists and writers in, which honestly could be a good or bad thing, who knows.

I'm picking up Baltimore as a second Con I think, especially since WWChicago is bumping up to June. Should have plenty of off days and extra cash to pull them both off.

That's a fantastic Animal Man. But I'm really excited to see Chris Samnee start to be a bigger name. That guy's awesome.

It's a matter of what the market will bear. If you take commissions with the intent of finishing them at the con, raising the price decreases the number you need to deal with. An artist tries to set a price that fills his sign up sheet... but not too quickly.

David Petersen charges a much higher price for his Mouse Guard pages than you might expect from a new professional but he has very few pages to sell. Mike Mignola bought a couple of pages from him and told me Petersen was "very, very smart to price them like that."

Love that Hawkman sketch. He's a character that I've always liked but was never able to get into because they kept messing with his origin. Loved Hawkworld, though.

Lou Ferrigno charges twenty bucks for a polaroid, and another twenty for an autograph. His booth was empty all day.

Samnee was a hell of a cool guy. I really hope he gets more popular too. In fact, I hope a most of the guys I get work from do, especially now that I hit them up while they were still cheap. :D

Heh. Funny thing about Lou is that you can meet him for free at the hotel fitness center like I did.

A part of me thinks he's a prick, while the other part is saying, "Hey, the guys gotta eat".

A part of me thinks he's a prick, while the other part is saying, "Hey, the guys gotta eat".He won a lot of competitions, did a lot of magazines, and did the Hulk. That equals a lot of money. If he spent that okay. Then he had the King of Queens, more magazines, commercials, and cameos. If he spent that? Then hes just stupid with money and should try getting a job. You know what people would pay to have Lou Ferrigno be there personal trainer? I'd much rather see him try that than charge 40 dollars for an autographed polaroid.
