Ugh. 24. I wanna watch it so bad, but I've never even seen one episode. God, everyone talks about it so friggin much. That show, Lost, and Heroes I feel I'm missing out on...I'll get the DVDs eventually, but that's a lot of TV to catch up on, yknow?

The problem is that Jim Lee's hands are too small to hold an adult-sized pencil so he has to draw it with a keno pencil

Then don't buy it. If you already have quality issues, plus you feel slighted by the delays, just don't buy it. It really is that simple.

I personally think they should have quotes on the cover every time an issue does come out that read something like "All Star Batman! Hey, at least we've got a better record than Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk!!" or "All Star Batman! At least you figured we'd be late at some point, not like that Civil War junk..." or "All Star Batman! Spartans! Tonight we dine in hell!!!!!!"

Or... "All Star Batman! I eat Rats!"

I could buy it cause I am a collector, I was just saying that it was ridiculously disappointing. I wasn't complaining that I've been wasting my money on it or anything. It is trash but its trash that has collectible value, and I enjoy the Jim Lee covers.

All-Star Batman & Robin #6-14. Batman and Robin drive some more. Batman adds contributing to the deliquency of a minor to his ever-growing list of felonies when he forces Dick to drink a bottle of tequila.

Batman hands Dick a stick and tosses him into a pit with a monkey.

Batman: "Only one of you is eating tonight."

Whatever the opposite of jumping the shark is, Frank Miller is that.

When I found out that none of the All-Star titles were in the same universe with each other, I was annoyed... then I was oddly intrigued. Has Batman showed up in All-Star Supes yet?

...I'd start buying it again if he did that.

I just think this whole thing is hilarious. I dropped the book at the "I'm the goddamn batman" line and I'm still only 1 issue behind. That was what, a year and a half ago?

What issue was that in? Issue #1 or #2? I think that came out first quarter '96.

I wonder what Miller's getting paid for ASBAR. I heard his paycheck for DK2 was a cool million. Isn't it funny that he's making more money now than he ever did when he was actually good? (And not just good, great.) Anyone read Ronin? Such a gutsy book in it's day. I need to re-read that. When exactly did he put on the leather jacket and the skis? I'm thinking it was Spawn/Batman.

To me, Sin City is merely okay. His last great work was arguably 300, or perhaps even The Man Without Fear.

The problem I have with Jim Lee, is the fact what I'm just wondering what the hell he's doing that he can't do the book? I know he runs Worldstorm, but still. Part of me feels that I don't need a JIm Lee cover to a book and I don't need to read about how he's running another art contest on his site or poker game. I know the man has a life but come on!

Also the fact that he says he won't give the book to anyone else, because of his ego, and he laughs, just kind of pisses me off more.

Granted since it takes place in its own world, it's not a huge deal for the book to be late, but still, if everyone thinks it's been canceled, that's bad.

Also if I were Frank Miller I'd be pissed. I know he's an artist and can take his time. But if I wrote a story two years ago, and it wasn't getting done because the guy who's doing my art is doing poker games and covers, I'd kick his ass off the book.

Granted I"m sure Miller's busy enogh to think about it, but still.

I think I'm looking at 100 in three days I think. That's really big progress for me. I'm usually a ten a day poster at my other websites. But I'm already starting to dig talking comics here. I multi-task a la Luthor in Superman Red Son

I read it about three months ago for the first time and it was surprisingly good. It was mentioned on the podcast as something worth checking out by Ron of all people (the least DC of the ifanboys) and I figured if an X-men guy liked it, it must be good.

My favorite Supes story outside of Superman For All Season (which is pants-changing good).

The Lex Luthor in Red Sun is the best Luthor I've ever read. I want to read full books based off him. I also really liked the use of Hal Jordan (Millar even threw Rayner and Gardner in there....although they all got punked) and Batman .

i can't express how much disappointment i have in this book. admittedly my expectations were pretty friggin' high, but thats what happens when you put frank miller and jim lee on a book! now i am angry at the fact that its late to the point of absurdity, but to tell you the truth i dont even notice it. the reason? it was crap! i loved jim lee's art, its always amazing but is it worth the wait? hardly. and now i have to wait for two lee books to crawl out (and the WildCATS art was subpar by his standards anyway)
No question, frank miller writes the best batman, i know everyones favorite is dark knight but i love year one and think its under rated amongst the greats. but i think that robert rodriguez got miller hooked on hollywood cocaine or something. i dont know what he's writing but its not batman.
my only hope is that miller is going somewhere with this, there's got to be some reason why batman is acting so out of character and i hope he explains it. or maybe miller just can't write comics anymore (remember dark knight strikes again?)
I think im just going to go back to reading my year one and remember the good old days

I find myself taking a page from Conor's book these days (or at least, his opinion as he stated it way back in an earlier episode of the podcast.) All-Star Batman and Robin started for me as an utter failure and an unholy mess. Well, today... it's still and Unholy Mess. But it's like the spectacular train wreck of comic books, you can not look away, and I find myself very excited whenever a new issue comes out to see what the hell Frank's going to do to The Goddamn Batman next. And I kind of get the feeling that Frank Miller knows exactly what the hell he's doing to Batman on this book (although I'm not as sure Jim Lee's in on the joke; still, you gotta admit, he sure does draw comic books pretty.) So... I'm totally on board for the rest of All-Star Batman and Robin, because I can't wait to see what part of it blows up next. (BTW... I'm sure there's another post on this up here already somewhere, but i'm too lazy to look for it.)

i look forward to this book too, for a bunch of different reasons.
I want to see what Miller will have Bats do next and to a lesser extent the other characters, i think he's trying to change them as much as he can while still essentially keeping it the same character (ie what makes batman batman, what makes wonder woman wonder woman, keep that stuff but change everything else). The art is awesome, and it's actually gotten better in the last 2 issues.

the only thing that i have absolutely no interest in is the story, if you ask me now i couldn't tell you what's going on, all i remember is that bats has locked Dick Grayson in the batcave to survive off of rats, but that was like 4 issues ago.....

iSteve
08-24-2007, 01:58 PM
I, too, must confess that I cannot look away either. It draws me in even when I know I should be running screaming in the other direction. What continues to surprise me is how much of a sadist Miller makes Batman out to be. Bats absolutely LOVES beating criminals into a bloody pulp. This Batman shares a certain crazed enjoyment of his life's work with none other than the Joker. They are on different sides of the battle, but both have Jack Nicholson eyes, shining brightly with too much glee at the violence they produce. Miller's Batman is not the Dark Knight, we know and fear. He is a slightly deranged capester desperately in need of drugs and intense therapy. I genuinely fear for poor Robin to be mentor by a person such as this. I get the shivers just thinking about him.

I don't understand all the hate towards this book. Yeah, Batman is written way out of character ... but it's not set in continuity, so why does that make people cry so much?

I just treat it like an Elseworlds book (which is what is basically is) and it's way more entertaining than alot of other books on the shelves.
