The director was just made official for the upcoming movie.
His name is D.J. Caruso and he's probably most known for Disturbia.
http://www.latinoreview.com/news.php?id=2748
Who's likely to be Yorrick?
With Caruso and Shia LaBeouf's already-established working relationship ("Disturbia" and the upcoming "Eagle Eye"), does the director already have his "last man"? "This is funny, but unbeknownst to me: Shia was already chasing this part prior to anything," Caruso said. "I haven't talked to him yet about it because he's off shooting 'Indiana Jones 4,' but Shia is the right type and the right personality because you want to have the humor, but you also want to have the seriousness. So we'll talk about it when we get there."
Thoughts??

Your kidding me? They want "The Beef" to be Yorick? His joking nature would fit Shia's personality, but i think he's way too young. Im torn.....

I'm probably going to be all Shia LaBeouf-ed out by next year. The LaBeouf backlash line begins here...

I'm reaaaaally not sure about this one. Caruso has made himself a lot of flops in the action genre, and I think this is going to be a bit out of his genre. This could be good, maybe it's all he needed. As for Shia? I think it will be alright. He's a good actor. Would he be my first choice? No. But oh well.

Though he's done a few things since, I still can't think of him other then Lewis Stevens from that show on Disney Even Stevens
But I might be able to see him as Yorick

But really, I recognize him as a terrific actor. I hate that, that is getting him thrown into every role imaginable, but whatever, he's talented. I listened to him in the Disturbia commentary though, and he really rubbed me the wrong way. Mostly it was the amount he swore. Not only are commentaries generally tasteful, but I can't stand when a person throws a swear into a sentence with no reason. Stub your toe? Go for it, yell, swear, whatever. But when every third word is a swear, and you've yet to give a valid reason, it's annoying.

LaBeouf is a good actor dudes. He's just a bit overexposed. Come next year, we are all going to be sick of him. LaBeouf fatigue will set in.

Aw, he's young. Give him time for his personal maturity to reach his acting ability.

It was indeed a terrible commentary, but I don't mind the swearing. I'm an honorary sailor myself. A well placed **** is like...a sapphire in a scepter. Just gotta know where to place it. Don't go bejeweling it.
No, the reason I disliked the commentary was because they were incredibly rude. They were eating at the time, and made a big deal about it. If you're gonna enjoy lunch with this reunion of cast and crew, fine. But the audience doesn't need to hear about it. Then the director gets a phone call, which he passes off to Shia. I hate it when people in a theater audience are messing about with their phones. Even if it's just texting. Shut the thing off and sit back. You don't have the nuclear launch codes. The world can keep on spinning while you sit in silence and watch a motion picture with me and the other people for 2 hours. Making phone calls on a commentary? Why even bother.

Agreed. That's what I mean. The fact that Shia swears I can write off. So does about everyone his age. But he swears through the entire commentary. Caruso makes a shopping list. You can barely hear Sarah because she's out of the way of the mic, chowing down. It was awful. I quit halfway through. Entirely unproffessional.

D.J. Caruso Not Looking for a One and Done
So, do you know how Y: The Last Man ends?
I definitely do, but it's interesting, because in developing the film, I don't want to say we decided to go the trilogy way, but we decided to take a certain chunk of the first, like, 14 issues, and make that the first movie. So we kind of gave it a different arc. Where this series ends, hopefully, would be, like, the third movie.
Oh, wow.More in link (http://blogs.usatoday.com/popcandy/2008/01/a-chat-with-y-t.html#more)

Ugh. Seriously. This is the kid who was in Transformers, right? He was awful. The movie was awful, so that didn't help, but HE was awful too. He had no chemistry, no delivery and no sense of passion. Disturbia, also a movie that was not great... also a movie he was garbage in.
But really, I recognize him as a terrific actor.

I don't think I'd have a problem with LeBouf as Yorrick, but really I doubt they'd have any problem finding a pretty decent looking 20-something actor to play him. Really, he might not fit the look to a T, but I'd have no problem with them going full tilt getting an A-grade actor in Ryan Gosling.

Scheduled for 2009...
and rumors are that Shia Labeouf will be casted as Yorick :(
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Y:_The_Last_Man#Movie_adaptation
Movie adaptation
The film rights to the series have been acquired by New Line Cinema, and as of July 24, 2007 screenwriter Carl Ellsworth and director D. J. Caruso, the team behind Disturbia, are attached to the project with David S. Goyer as a producer.
Caruso intends on finishing the script in the summer and filming during the fall of 2008, assuming the writer's strike is finished by then.
Caruso claims that the source material was too much to be told in one movie and they decided to concentrate on the best first movie they can, which would end somewhere around issue 14 of the comic series. The entire comic series as a whole would be plotted into three movies. Rumors have been circulating that actor Shia Labeouf will play the role of Yorick. Caruso and Labeouf have worked together in both the films Disturbia and Eagle Eye(2008).

Indeed. We're all pretty hopeful for the film. I'm not a big Shia fan, at all, but that doesn't kill my hope. We'll see more as the movie, theoretically, develops.

Was he complaining? I must have missed that. He was fantastic Even Stevens. It's like dismissing Dr. Seuss because he wrote for children. He wasn't trying to be Daniel Day Lewis, it was the Disney channel.
Also, his "sister" from the show now has a singing career from what I hear. She, on the other hand, was not so good. Specifically when she sang.

I could care less about the movie b/c there is no way its going to hold a candle to the issues(or trades in my case) however, does this new movie mean that we can be getting our hands on some Hard Cover edition trades?

They seem to be taking a very good approach to the way the series will be done.

A nice update on the upcoming film, and how the director has Shia LaBeouf as his first choice for Yorick.
Cool stuff.
EDIT: Sorry if there's an official Y: The Last Man thread, but the search function was a pain in the ass.
When I heard the rumous about Shia as Yorick (feels like ages ago now) I loved the idea, I'm still totally behind it.
