How do you know for sure that switch does anything...? If it does anything it probably just switches the ide cable from lets say hda to hdb

Well, you can watch the original screensavers where Kevin creates the switch in question (http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8550805238762811622&q=techtv+HDD%20switch).

Thats a neat mod. So did he come up with that himself? I mean he had enough knowledge of electrical wires/electronics, and came up with it himself or did he read an article about something that helped him come up with the idea?

Ok... for those of us who are forward deployed in a war zone and can not download the video, could someone summarize what it is the switch does and how it works?

I was guessing it was a gimmick.

I was guessing it was a gimmick. Two harddrives on an IDE chain. When the switch is OFF, it boots the last drive in the chain. When the Switch is ON is acts as if the Master/Slave jumpers are set on the back of the HDD, effectively flipping the boot order of the drives.

Neat effect.

Would this work with SATA drives. I know my motherboard (MSI K8N Neo) has SATA sockets labeled SATA 1 and SATA 2. Currently I have the drives configured to that SATA 1 is set to master and SATA 2 to slave.

Does anyone know if a switch set up like this would work, or does the motherboard have presidence.
