So we're talking about doing a get together here in Toronto and anyone interested in showing up? post here. Right now the suggestion was a LAN party, location to be decided... that's not to say we can't do something else. let us know who's in, and what you'd like to do. So far the options are either the day of Oct 28 or 29th, or Nov 12.
So far we have

Your timing sucks. I will be in Toronto on business - 31 Oct - 2 Nov ... and probably sitting with all my friends :( at the bar at Airport Holiday Inn.

(Actually, I am in town for a conference. I am arriving early to set up our booth ... then I get booth b1tch duty ... not looking forward to the spandex jump suit ... its starting to get damn cold in Toronto at that time of year).

Oh dude, 28th and 29th of Oct. are kind of bad for me, since my bro's b-day is right on the 29th. Preferably I'd like it on the Nov date, but if it's a majority vote against mine, I can try to make the 28th date.

i should prolly post. so my chemo treatments are Oct 19th, Nov 2nd, Nov 16th and so on every other week until mid Jan. For 5 days after that I am out for the count. So the best time is the weekend before my treatment. So the 14-15th, 28-29th, 11-12th and so on. I am game for anything but I'm not 19 until dec 28, so alcohol is out and i have a mac as my primary and a ok machine for gaming, its like a year old and wasnt top end when i got it but it can handle battlefield 2....but i dont have any copies i had to delete them because they were talking up space.

satori
10-15-2006, 05:00 AM
China town tends to be a little cramped. North end of the city isn't so accessible for those that are going TTC. Bowling could be fun, and I'm not against it if that's the prevailing idea, but again, not so accesible. If nothing else we need to keep it either in the city core or along the subway line. Younge and Eglinton would be preferable if they have some half decent gaming machines... Sevenduffs, can you help us on that one... not my area of town, any place you're thinking of that have good machines?

I don't really go to many internet cafes, but I did go to a place called Black & White with my sister and her friends a couple of times, just to play a few rounds of CS.

Also, a great place to get your computer stuff is Canada Computers, they have a shop in Pacific Mall.

for the most part Canada Computers is *the* place to but hardware in Toronto, but not working for us on this thing.

Where is B&W?

and I think this is probably what we're going to end up doing. I can't find anywhere that we could play something like BF2. I'll play whatever people are in to... I have a feeling if we play CS I'm going to get my ass handed to me... I'd prefer BF42 so I can at least get some game time in, but I'll play whatever if I'm playing with my Dromies.

YorkU has an arcade with a lot of new games, pool tables, fooseball tables, and an internet cafe. When I went there the games on the comp were mostly Blizzard (WoW, SC, WC3, Diablo) and Valve (CS). It's somewhat accessible by subway; there's a bus that leaves regularly from Downsview station into York.

It is a bit far for most people though. Also, you have to set up a membership and its a bit time consuming.

well it's still go to lunch and then do some gaming at a cyber cafe after
Area is hopefully around Young and Eglinton because it would probably be easiest to get to, and it's not a creepy area, and there are tons of places to eat . Date is Nov 12 time I'm thinking 12 ish to 4 or 5...
Still trying to find a cyber cafe, I have a huge list to call and I typically have meetings from 11pm est on until around 6, son gets home then
I hang till 8.... then I need to remember to call these places... I keep forgetting.
I'll make a point to do this tomorrow... or if anyone else has found a good place let us know.

The reason I had suggested Younge and Eglinton is that it's right along the subway line, and there are a whack load of restaurants around there. transit requirements should be nil once we get there. Now we just need to find a location. I appologise for not having time yet to find one, but I'm sure there is a location around there. I have a project that is coming to close in a week and a half and a major presentation in 2 hours. If it was simply a task of useing the internet to find a location I'd be fine, I've found that I really need to be on the phone right now. Anyway... tomorrow should be more free and am hoping to start then. There's always something right.

Feel free to look for a location if you like and let us know what you find.

It launches Nov 10th so I'm doing my best to get the work done. What I really need to do is get myself up to young and eglinton and do a survey of the area, but there's just been not time. So we meet up at Scruffy Murphy's just east of Younge and Eglinton, on the north side of Eglinton: http://www.toronto.com/restaurants/listing/000-100-049 (I have a copy of their menu if you have any food concerns, just pm me)
Reservation is for 11:30 under satori and we're located at the front of the place.

Then after we're going to the Sunshine Cyber Cafe. Now this place is a diamond in the rough. I've been looking for ages for half decent place for us to hook up that could even play Counter strike. These guys mostly have new machines, and they looked pretty impressive. They're going to make sure that we can play counter Strike Source and F.E.A.R., but what other games are people in to that we would want to play together? Please post back.

I have booked 7 machines but would like you to post back that you are a definite, or a maybe so I can book additional machines if required (looked like they had about 20, but it was also full) . Keep me posted.

thanks

It's this Sunday November 12th at 11:30 if we want to do the lunch. We can skip the lunch though and go directly to the gaming at 1:30 if you'd prefer. The gaming spot is about 5 doors away from the restaurant. I thought I posted that, sorry. Next up is that the easiest method of getting there is to go to Eglinton Station (that's on the Younge line, not the university line) and walk about 2 minutes east, no bus required. This was planned with the least non-subway traveling possible and to make it accessible to the most parts of the city. Any further questions?

I'm happy to go, but I won't be organizing. Dont' take this the wrong way, I just spent a few hours traveling there checking out locations, organizing reservations. The date and cross streets had been set for weeks. It's true I didn't have the specific location down, but I simply couldn't get it faster. All I'm saying is that if it's going to happen someone else is going to need to organize it. No hard feelings though, I had fun gaming there today.

I'm happy to go, but I won't be organizing. Dont' take this the wrong way, I just spent a few hours traveling there checking out locations, organizing reservations. Poor guy... I would have gone with you Satori if it weren't for the akwardness. Perhaps someday we'll be able to put you know what behind us, and be friends again, just friends.

You might be better off just putting it on the table next time.
