Don't get me wrong, i love TRS but man, Guild Wars is a great game.. I know its hard, but take a break from WoW(Also a great game) and check it out guys.
heh, atm I am playing BioShock, but hey, don't bag on GuildWars unless you've played it.
(Props to Jeff for not bagging on it, and just saying cool)
Anyone else on the forums play it?

I did play it.... then I moved to WoW. But now I don't play WoW anymore. I've been playing a lot more console games than PC lately. I think I'm over the MMO for a while.
I didn't have any friends to play Guild Wars with. Like Alex, I much prefer to be playing these types of games w/ friends. So it's no wonder I quit. I still have the box and game sitting in a drawer somewhere.

I use to play GWs but gave my account back to the person who gave it to me. GW2 is suppose to be WoW like but still free right?

This game is incredible for not having to pay a monthly fee. I got the game originally when it came out, and played hardcore for a few months, got into a top 10 guild and dropped out of existence for a year. Came back and the game had changed so much. Now it doesn't seem to be as newb friendly as it use to be. The best aspect about the game has to be the PVP the PVE is nice, but the PVP shines, too bad no one takes newbs to the Hall :(

I don't think anyone was bagging it on the show were they?
GW is an awesome game I played through all 3 campaigns, and will probably get the next expansion.
It does a LOT of things better than WoW and a few not as good. I'll never pay for a monthly fee on WoW again or any other MMROPG for that matter.
Picking up Two Worlds for the 360 on my way home from work today, it's ment to be pretty similar to Guild Wars so I have heard. :)

Guild Wars was a great 'free' online game when it first came out and slowly became an incredibly inventive and unique game that I would play over wow any day of the week.
The restriction on the number of skills you can take out of town, the highly customizable weapons and armor, the largely level playing field (In terms of stats), and the different PvP types are all things that are pretty much unmatched as far as online rpgs go, I think. It's a really well done game.
GW2 will be a more traditional MMO with multiple races and a persistent world. Should be fun and, of course, it will be monthly fee free still.

Jeff would like it, since he really loves design and creativity. The places in Guild Wars are amazing, especially in the new expansion, Eye of the North.. (It comes out Friday.)
I feel that Dan doesn't "Really" like games as much as Jeff, but as I, if he were on ventrillo or (cheap) teamspeak or even skype he would like it, as would Alex.

Props for being a free MMO, but releasing the game in 3 parts? Not cool.

It's not 3 parts, Guild Wars Prophecies was the first game, a stand alone. 1 Year later, Guild Wars Factions, another stand-alone game was released, though if you owned both, your character could travel back and fourth. And then, 6 months later, Guild Wars Nightfall, another Standalone was released. Now, on Friday, 8 months later, Guild Wars Eye Of the North, the 1st expansion pack(costing less than 50 bucks too) will come out! It is a expansion of the 1st Guild Wars, and is designed for max level characters.
It is a great game, a awesome Diablo 2 filler IMO.

Each Guild Wars is seen as a separate game set in the same universe. Each game has its own storyline and its own continent to explore but you can still play and only own the second chapter just as much as you can play with only owning the third. Your characters can go to the other continenetsa nd learn the skills available in other games seamlessly just by entering the cd key into your account. I got Prphecies on the day of its release and a year later when the second game came out, Factions, I just typed in my cd key into my Guild Wars account and then took my characters I had been palying for the last year over to the new lands to go through that story and get the new skills. They function just like new wow expansions do, I imagine, except they don't require you to own any other expansions.
The first "true" expansion comes out soon and will be slightly less than the others cost because it requires you to own at least one of the initial three games.

I see now. Thanks for clearing that up!

I think the trs guys should give it a roll, the game is cheaper now, and graphics are still at the prime of most MMO's for its capabilities. Alex could even max out a character in this game lol, unlike in WoW

I used to play Guild Wars heavily. PvP is great. PvE less so (until they make the AI more challenging and/or the story more captivating)
The multiple betas for the original were inspiring, I remember. The devs were were quite close to the community and we wanted the game to succeed. They tried to do too much with the story though and...meh.
Guild Wars is still amazing for PvP...when it works. Not everyone is into the competitive nature, which leads to guild drama. To find a good guild for team-based PvP is hard for it takes a lot of practice and good coordination. And not everyone knows there are Guild Battles (the best part of PvP).... People want to win, but it's hard for just one member in a team to make a huge impact, at least at the mid-tier level. I think the key attribute here is awareness as positioning is very important. In some ways, GvG feels like a team sport.

I play Guild Wars. Not very intensively, but I play. I have actually tried WoW twice, and both times have gotten bored of it in the first 6 hours. I'm not discrediting WoW. It's a great game. It's just not my cup of tea. I'm still waiting for 'Aion' (http://www.plaync.com/us/games/aion/) before I get engaged to an MMO.

Aion looks great, and Gaile Grey, the community relation manager for Guild Wars talks in Game, on the main fan forums, and will even personally talk to you if you have issues with the game in any way.
If your looking for good storyline, check out Eye Of the North, the Preview weekend was awesome! New cutscenes with actors like Maurice LaMarche, voice of Brain, in Pinky and the Brain! He also was a lot of voices in Futurama! The story looks to be realllly good!

I play Guild Wars at least an hour a day, along with WoW. I have been playing GW since beta, and wow for just a few months. Right now I am liking WoW more, but that is just because it is new to me. I have over 2000 hours logged on Guild Wars, and I have played at the highest levels of PvP (Held Halls for 2 hours, Top 100 GvG, etc.)
I think it'd be cool if the TRS guys played GW to figure out how it works and such.

of the three standalone games of guild wars that are out there, which one would be recommended now?
my friend and i are looking into getting into the GW realm, and i wonder if starting with the first GW would be best? since they are standalone is one of the other ones better than the first?
if we had the extra time and extra money i am sure we would purchase all three sets :D

I played Random Arenas on PVP but then they introduced this whole system to keep people from leaving and that ruined my fun. What can I say, I didn't like playing with a team I knew wouldn't go far... then the single player is fun while you're still gaining levels, but once you're at max, it kinda sucks to me. Enemies are always higher level than you and you have to have a team of people that know exactly what to do, and that's hard to find most of the time. So I just quit playing it.
Wish I could sell it since I dumped so much money and time into it.

The first one is the easiest, and has the most content-wise. Both of the others are basically just expansions with 2 new classes each and some new skills. The first has the core skills and classes and should definitely be played first if only for that. Other than that though, the difficulty curve on the other two are not very agreeable to newcomers. Especially if you're one of the classes you get with the campaign. So yeah, first one, no question.

First of all, I think GW could better be characterized as a MORPG (at least when I played it) and it's so obviously designed _not_ to be competing with traditional MMORPGs the whole discussion is pointless.
"Guild Wars" is designed for just that: Good PvP; something WoW lacks. They're geared towards different crowds.
When a good MMO that does PvE, socializing, massive worlds, free PvP with free loot and non-constrictive systems that allow for exploration of what you can do with them emerges ("Ultima Online" had all these, by the way. "ShadowBane" had them (minus the full free loot) together with conquest, but was so technically flawed most people wouldn't play it just because of that.), then you can start comparing it to everything out there, because that's obviously the whole package.
Here you have a game that's hardly "massive" and concentrates on PvP a lot, designed (when I played it) to be pretty much a "Quake" experience in that you jumped in, instantly got to do PvP in a format you liked, then you could jump out; being compared to a real MMO experience that lacks everything in PvP and requires you to grind your way into being able to compete with anyone in the lazy PvP model they designed.
