I've heard the complaints, but let's face facts here: Skate is the most realistic skating sim you're going to get, and it still manages to be fun.

The demo, though it's lame that it's timed, is a great example of what this game is going to bring to the table when it hits. Tony Hawk has gotten stale - it isn't fun anymore to hit the "grind" button or perform the absurd challenges that the game requires of you.

Skate, on the other hand, controls like skateboarding should. Yeah, it takes a bit of getting used to, but it is a great and fluid control system. I think my brother put it in perspective for me with relation to realism. He's big into skating; he's got a shoe sponsor, he shreds all the time - he put together a string of tricks in game, moved his skater a bit into different grinds... he looked up and said to me "wow, that's... that's exactly the transition you would make if you shifted your weight that way... holy shit."

It brings realism to skating games, which is what the genre needed. I'll be picking this up; lord knows I've already wasted plenty of hours just skating around.

I don't know, I used to be a HUGE Tony Hawk fan, to the point where at one time I had only around 100k less points than the record score on THPS 3. However I have also gotten tired of the series a little bit and haven't even gotten Project 8 yet.

I also did not really like Skate all that much. I am really not into sim style games anyway, and that goes for Sports, Racing, Ect. I like what they are trying to do, I just didn't get much enjoyment out of it.

Who writes the show descriptions? I ask because the guys seem to be giving the thumbs up to skate, yet the description says "The lads mock EA's lame Tony Hawk wannabe, Skate."

Just curious.

I like it. It feels like skating, and I'm sick and tired of Tony Hawk. It's the same game over and over again.

Skate is new, skate is fresh, skate feels like skateboarding.

I have to agree. It feels really fluid. The only complaint I have is that manuals and nose manuals need to be a little easier to get into. I can get into a manual okay, but nose manuals are insainly hard to actually get into for some reason. At least for me.

Oh, and for some reason. If you're grinding, and you lose speed and come to a stop on a rail. Your skater takes a huge dive. Why can't the skater maybe just drop off the board onto his feet..?

Well, nosemanuals are very hard to do, you really have to hit that sweet spot. Like in the game. This game is for people who want realistic skating, and I love it.

Yeah. I understand that. But it could at least pop into the nose manual and then you could fall off. I'm having trouble even getting my skater to try to do the nose manual.

I was unimpressed with the demo. I like to have fun when I'm gaming and skate seemed more like work than fun.

I loved it and will probably pick it up despite it being from EA. Even my wife really liked it and got addicted to it so I consider that a plus. Any game that can get her gaming more is a hit in my book!

It depends on the grind you're doing; in most cases, you need to move the left stick to shift your body so you don't eat shit when you lose speed. So you gotta shift into something landable.

i must say this game is so much better than Tony Hawk's in my opinion, it feels like you are really doing something, it feels as if you were skating.

im really loving the demo

Tony Hawk games have overstayed their welcome, they aren't doing anything new, it's just the same formula from underground rehashed over and over.

Project 8 sucked.

As for the Skate vs Tony Hawk. Im a die hard TH fan, but Skate is pretty cool.

I will be _buying both_ games when they are released.
