Ive always lurked around on these forums but never posted. So this is my first post because of how amazed I was by the TRS movie review...

You guys definitely must be too old for this movie because this movie was hilarious. Im 26 years old and understood everything that happened in the movie. Did you guys drink and go to parties when you were in high school? I did so I can totally relate to what was going on. I remember the adventures we would go through to get beer on a Friday night. We would even plot to steal beer like they did. Granted we never did it because we were too scared. So I understood the whole sequence in the grocery store about stealing beer.

As far as the phrases used and how you all said they were trying to start a trend...do you remember how you guys talked around your friends when you were that age? I do and everything that came out of our mouths was dirty and degrading. Everything in this movie was dead on to my high school years even down to the cops and busting parties. We even had a set of "cool cops" that would come into the parties just to make sure that it wasn't out of control and everyone was safe.

The end sequence was a little weird but it was meant to describe the feeling of losing a best friend to college like millions of us have done. I was in a solid core of 4 friends (including myself, we even called ourselves the "Quad Squad") that did everything together and the day we all went off to college was one of the hardest days I have ever been through. Friendships change through college because that is when a person really grows and finds him/herself and they may no longer relate to their old best friends as they go through college.

I laughed out loud throughout this whole movie and would even go and see it again. I totally saw myself in this movie which is probably why I related to it so much and thought it was hilarious. I'm sorry you guys didn't see the same movie me and millions of other people saw. I think you were over analyzing it instead of sitting back and enjoying the movie. It was meant to be a high school movie for adults to look back and relate to. Ive agreed with 98% of you all's other movie review except for this one. Go see it again with a more open mind, maybe with a few beers (or other drink/drug of choice) and see what you think.

I'd be interested to know if the guys liked American Pie when it was released as that to me is a comparable movie. I'm 30 and I loved Superbad, hell it doesn't even resonate with me because I didn't know anyone like that at school and I live in the UK so it's lil different over here, I just found it hilariously funny.

I went into this movie thinking i was going to love it, and came out of it let down. (I'm 20 if thats relevant)

The only part of the movie i really enjoyed, like Alex, are when the cops and McLovin were on the screen. That entire story line was hilarious, while the rest of the movie felt fake or boring. Not saying the cops part of the movie didn't feel fake, but at least it wasn't trying to be so real like the other story line.

Other then the cops and McLovin i think i laughed under half a dozen times, which is really terrible for this type of movie. I think my biggest problem was i expected so much and it didn't live up to all the hype. Movies like Knocked Up or Grandma's Boy were way way way better, and thats what i was expecting.

I also didn't really buy all the swearing, i swear all the time with my buddies but never to that extent. It felt like they were trying way to hard to say whatever they could get away with, and it really took away from the story.

Overall i agreed with the TRS's movie review, this movie was decent, but nothing to get excited about. I wouldn't even illegally download this movie to watch it again, let alone buy the dvd/rent it.

saw this movie twice... let me say i went in with high hopes and being a fan of arrested development i love cera... jonah hill also hits my laugh button a lot because of his ability to deliver bland and mellow lines with a dry sense of humor. but being a first role for mclovin' his character clearly steals the show from the main two stars... overall the movie had some great scenes that made me laugh out LOUD... SPOILER WARNING: the penis drawing scene, the scene where seth (jonah hill) back talks his teacher, among many many others... and this movie has the greatest quote out of any movie all year: "The funny thing about my back is.... it's located on my cock." and as for Jeff... give alex back his hateraid pants man, not only did they cause you to not see the true comedic genius of this film but they also made you throw some corny jokes out this episode. you rock but i am just going to have to disagree with you this round

I agree with the TRS review--Dan and Jeff always seem to correlate my tastes for the most part.

I'm actually more interested in seeing Superbad now just to see how my thoughts on it compare. I probably won't get to the theater to watch it though.

I think the guys simply outgrew the film. My roomate saw it before me, claiming that it wasn't as good as he had hoped. When I saw it with a friend the next day we couldn't stop laughing, its one of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

I’m 31 and I enjoyed this movie enough to have already seen it twice. The first time was opening night at the mall theater and I saw it with a crowd that seemed closer to the age of the main characters and everyone seemed to love it. The second time was this past weekend at the Drafthouse here in Austin with a crowd that seemed to be mostly my age or older, and again the crowd seemed to really enjoy it. I’m completely surprised just from a statistical perspective that out of the three TRS guys the sentiment seemed to range from hatred to indifference.

Jeff seemed to find the film very misogynistic, though I thought Evan’s presence is enough to discredit that belief. Evan is never really comfortable with Seth’s plan, and even in his own drunken state is unable to allow anything to happen because he feels it would be wrong. Of course Seth is misogynistic. He’s overweight, lacks self confidence and believes the only way he could score is by getting the girl completely wasted. I don’t think this is that uncommon in adolescent boys that are particularly unsuccessful with the ladies. I myself held a lot of anger towards women at that age, though I would never have realized it at the time.

The movie isn’t trying to make any statement about the value of women because this movie is simply about these characters on a particular night, as they realize their own relationship will soon end as their lives take them elsewhere. Their respective opinions of women are simply a part of who they are and the lives they’ve lead up to this point. We aren’t supposed to walk away with a lesson about how the best way to get laid is to get a girl drunk. Seth isn’t even successful because the girl values herself too much to allow that to happen.

I found there to be an emotional sincerity to this film that is often absent in these kinds of comedies. It made me remember how I felt at that age about not being popular, the anxieties I felt about girls, parties and being accepted. I remember feeling like my buds were family and how sad I felt when that last summer ended and we went our separate ways in college. Their particular adventure was unrealistic (though I can remember several stories from my day that seem pretty outrageous in retrospect) but that never derailed this emotional core of the film.

Did people not go to the same kind of high school that I did? I didn’t find the amount of cursing in this film to be even slightly unrealistic. My friends and I would curse like sailors any time we could find some way to fit it into a sentence. I curse less now that I’m in a professional environment and have a baby at home, but when I get together with friends it just starts to flow all over again.

Again, I’m not surprised that there are people that don’t enjoy this movie. I’ve yet to find a film that didn’t have its vocal detractors. I’m just shocked by the fact that Dan seemed meh, Alex thought the only thing worth laughing at was “I’ve got a boner” and Jeff found the film morally reprehensible. It seems like at least one of you would have appreciated it.

I agree, this movie was awesome, it was right on the verge of 14A and R rating. I just finished high school and i am heading to collage and i can definitely relate to many parts of this movie. However, i understand why the older audience would not enjoy this movie as much. On the other hand, the TRS guys do look like the kind of people that would enjoy this movie, i guess they just over analyzed it, and maybe they are getting old....

Spoiler warning:

See, I felt like the opposite Alex seemed too. I didn't think the cops were funny at all. I didn't think anything in the movie was funny from the time they showed up till the time they had their last scene.

Basically, I laughed my ass off at the first halfhour of this movie. Just the dialog was cracking me up. Listening to those two talk. "Nobodies gotten a handjob in cargo shorts since Vietnam". Hilarious.

Once they got out of school and started their "beer hunt" nothing they were DOING was funny, and they weren't talking anymore, so nothing they were SAYING was funny either.

In fact, I actively started hating the fat kid. He was just such an insufferable jerk the second half of the movie. I just wanted to hit him. Fortunately, every time I really wanted to hit him, some car did it for me.

And then all of a sudden, its the end of the movie and their in the mall buying pants and all of a sudden it's funny again. Because its just the two of them talking.

And I do want to say this to the TRS guys. I actually DO talk like that. I never used to swear in my high school days. It's honestly something I picked up since the internets came to me. In fact, I can honestly say, that the two biggest influences on the way I speak today is Penny Arcade and Red vs. Blue.

But I totally do that thing where when I want to swear, I put two completely unrelated swears together to make a totally new swear.

But anyway, I did find it interesting that all three of these losers had an attractive girl that seemed inexplicably attracted to them. I mean, it's pure fantasy. But hey, that's how movies flip things around on ya!

Well... It was no 'Knocked Up' for sure. It was worth seeing but overall fell short of what I was hoping to get out of it. I think I agree with Alex.. don't avoid the movie but it is nothing to seek out. Parts of it did make me laugh out loud but as a whole it just seemed to be lacking something. Was it better then transformers? Sure... was it on par with Knocked Up.. no.. For a film that reminds me of the whole high school lifestyle 'American Pie' did better. It maybe just an age thing though.. I'm 26 now. I have a feeling this was aimed at a younger audience. I'm glad I didn't shell out theater prices to see this. The two cops where the best part of the film to me. Sunshine and Knocked Up still rank as the top films of the summer for me.

I will say that you do have to have a certain type of humor to enjoy this movie. I guess I just related more to this movie which is why I thought it was hilarious. Each scene took me back and I could probably tell a story about my high school days that closely related to each scene. I think it was directed perfectly.

The part about Jeff's review that bothered me was that he thought that the scene in the grocery store was just super unrealistic. OF COURSE IT WAS! He was scared shitless because he has never stolen beer. He was paranoid about what would happen. Everything else about the movie was realistic. The parts that I thought were unrealistic were the cops. What cop is going to let a kid shoot his gun? But did it bother me? No, I thought it was hilarious. Why? because it was a comedy MOVIE. Movies are meant for entertainment and display scenes that don't happen in everyday life. If every movie we saw was realistic imagine how boring they would be? Why would I want to pay $8.50 to see something I can see in real life?

This movie was hilarious from start to finish. Ive never seen a movie twice in the theatre but Im thinking I may go see this one again. Or at least BT it. Apatow did a tremendous job with this movie and the characters were played perfectly. If you had a small core of friends I can guarantee you you have at least one for each character in this movie.

He didn't say that the part in the store was unrealistic. He was saying, much like you are, that the rest of the movie after that point was unrealistic. That in the store the kid was fantasizing about all the crazy things that could happen if he tried to steal the booze. And that the entire rest of the movie was a bunch of zany shit that would never actually happen, happening to the characters.

It's like he said, the movie just all of a sudden became Christmas Vacation. It turned into a sitcom.
