Anyone going to see this? I'm usually not one for non stop action movies but since it has Clive Owen(good guy) and Paul Giamatti(AS A BAD GUY!!) I'm definitely going to give this a shot.

Here's the RED BAND TRAILER for those who are interested.

If someone wants to embed it go ahead I was going to but it was acting funny.

I forget where I read this, but I remember hearing the director say something about the action in this film being like a live action bugs bunny cartoon. Just with the insane energy and crazy absurd action.

There's a line in an action movie where the action goes from realistic to slightly absurd, which can ruin a film. But I think if they go all out and go completely absurd, I can go from really bad to totally rad!

I'll be seeing it for sure. Looks pretty good. I like the action. Even if it is way over the top.

They did a showing of this last night at the Alamo Drafthouse here in Austin. The director was there doing a Q&A, and afterwards they did some sort of paintball competition where 3 people were tossing around a fake baby, and all audience members got three shots to try and hit the baby. If you hit the baby you won a prize.

I was so dying to go to that, but tickets sold out immediately. I haven't heard what the response was, but I can't wait to see that movie.

I've been looking Forward 2 this for along time.

Hopefully the TRS Guys go in knowing that it's suppose to be funny and farfetched, not realistic.

I can't wait

Im gonna see it tonite or tomarrow. I like when clive plays that sin city type role that he played and this looks like that.

It just looks like a good old fashion ... ummm .. shoot em up movie. Which is nice once in a while if its true to itself.

I saw it last night and I thought it was awesome in a really non-sensical sort of way. I wasn't into it at the beginning, but as it went along I realized how much fun I was having watching it.

Holy carrot stick...
This movie was insane!! I saw it about 20 min. ago and it is exactly what the title says. If you go in understanding the title is Shoot Em' Up and that it's rated R, you really have no excuse for not liking it... =)

The only complaints I can lodge against this movie is that it moved too quickly, and I was a bit puzzled at times. There was a scene where Clive's character said something about the bad guy's dog, and I thought, what dog? I didn't see a dog through this entire movie!

One other thing that filmmakers must, MUST, understand is this: If your characters are talking, let them be heard. Too often they drown out the dialogue, or the actors speak it too quickly, or talk on top of each other, and these are things you should never do (unless it's throwaway dialogue that doesn't need to be heard, such as in a war scene). This film wasn't a big offender in that regard, but there were moments of that, "Excuse me, what?" feeling that I didn't care for.

This movie is also a good reason people should try to avoid trailers and commercials to movies they're planning to go see. This is a technique I've developed in which, I browse through new trailers and teasers looking at new movies. As soon as I see a full length (around 2 minutes) trailer that sums up the story, and includes enough content for me to come to a decision on whether or not this will be my kind of movie, I NEVER WATCH ONE MORE until the movie comes out. This can be tough, you'll have to switch a lot of channels, and you will see small extra bits, but once you know what the trailers and ads look like, you'll get quicker at avoiding them. This technique is invaluable in regards to movies like this, as you don't see all the cool deaths, you don't know where it's going, you don't say, oh, I know what he's going to do there, because (hopefully) the last time you saw very much of this movie was months ago when the trailer came out. Everyone should try this approach with movies like this, I think.

Anyway, great movie, a little short and/or rushed. Plot is a bit too complicated, and often feels like it loses itself somewhere. Action scenes are great (minus the skydiving bit which felt so out of place). Some great comedic touches, some not so great comedic touches. 1 death by carrot? OK. 2 deaths by carrot? Come on. A 4 out of 5.

As a over all movie it was a little, lacking. But if you go in knowing what its supposed to be its pretty enjoyable. I laughed a lot and i was engrossed enough with the characters to cringe when .. that guy did the snappy snappy things with the other guy that like carrots ( speaking in code to not spoil ).

Over all, knowing what it was, i liked it a lot. I wouldnt see again, but i think it accomplished its goal, stayed true to itself and was aware of what it was and didnt hide it. So thumbs up.

Just got back from seeing it today. It was almost unfathomably awful. Good soundtrack, nice closing credits--everything else was a complete disaster. Crank wasn't perfect, bit it did the whole "action movie send-up/social commentary" angle about 100 times better.

My god I loved this film. It was everything I had been promised it would be. They said the film was extremely light on story and heavy on cartoon-like gunfights and that's exactly what it was. I'm not surprised that some don't enjoy it; it is a completely brainless film, but damn I found it to be tons o' fun!

To respond to neverendingwhitelights.....What?????? The dog shows up multiple times in the film. I also had no trouble understanding anything anyone said through the entire film. Perhaps it was an audio problem with the speakers up front in the theater you saw it in. Complicated plot? Did we see the same movie? I'm going to blame this on the audio problems you encountered.

I don't think this was supposed to be a spoof of action movies as much as it was an action movie taken to the limits of cartoon logic. It was totally trying to be a Bugs Bunny cartoon, hence his chewing on carrots, saying "What's Up, Doc?" and Giamatti saying "ohh, you wascally wabbit!"

For me Crank was barely passable. I didn't feel like I'd wasted my time watching it but I was glad I didn't pay to see it in the theater. Shoot 'Em Up is one I'll probably end up buying when it comes out.

You don't say? That was so remarkably subtle, I'll bet almost two people who saw it this weekend missed that.

Oh, and you forgot to add to that list Paul Giamatti's (did his character even have a name?) Ride of the Valkyries--aka "Kill the Wabbit"--ringtone.

The problem with the movie drawing that parallel is it totally reminded me that Bugs Bunny cartoons were more inventive, better written, and considerably funnier.

I honestly didn't recognize that as his ringtone.

I agree that Looney Tunes are more inventive, better written, and considerably funnier. I still had a rootin tootin good time watching .

This movie just had too much plot. I'm serious, if they had gotten rid of the baby altogether then it would have been better.

The only thing that made this no be the biggest bomb of the weekend was Britney Spear's performance at the VMA's.

But then she couldn't have given that blow job in order to make the money to buy that baby a bulletproof vest!
