Not that I have any interest in using iTunes, let alone downloading TV shows from it, but this is big news...

Heroes is among the shows that will not be available on iTunes.
Television programmes such as Heroes will not be available for download on iTunes in the US, after broadcaster NBC Universal ended its deal with Apple.
Apple said that NBC had demanded more than double its previous wholesale price for its programmes.

This meant that shows would cost users $4.99 an episode, rather than the current $1.99, Apple added.

NBC is the biggest provider of video downloads to the Apple online store, accounting for about 40% of sales.

This includes 30% of the television shows which Apple sells through iTunes.

NBC's current deal with Apple was due to end in December, but Apple said it would not sell new series of programmes as this would mean it had to end them mid-series.

This is especially funny, as Apple only just announced TV show sales in the UK.

Sad isn't it?

I'm going to have to now procure my NBC shows E-Legally now.

No Heroes and it also means no more Battlestar Galactica or Eureka as well. :(
That's more than half of my shows!

This is even more ironic considering that NBC is pulling its support for iTunes in part because Apple won't give NBC a premium on each iPod to cover the spectre of illegal music, tv and movie content that NBC "knows" must be on each iPod on the planet.

I do. It's the easiest way to get The Office weekly. You don't have to wait to find a good torrent and you don't have any of the lower thirds ads that networks might put in.

I don't watch "normal" TV at all. I used iTunes to get Heroes, Office, and Lost.

Yeah, awesome move by Apple. The other networks didn't try this BS and probably called NBC with anonymous support saying, "Yeah, do it! Raise your prices! Take on Apple!" and then just giggled in the corner as NBC decided to go from 1.99 to 4.99 per episode...and then high fived one another when they heard Apple dropped them.

Some greedy NBC exec must have had a bowl of brilliance with their morning coffee...

Even Jayne on Firefly knows a little is more than nothing..."Uh, nuthin plus nuthin...let's see...carry the nuthin...yeah, 100% of nuthin is NUTHIN."

Choke on it NBC.

It won't be long MAC will have their own network. Entertainment, movies, and tech tv all in one "easy to use" channel. You can either watch it on TV or on the Web.

I really want to support the shows I enjoy by paying a fair price for them. Especially shows like Eureka who are probably never going to become huge hits but will stick around as long as NBC thinks they are profitable enough. The more people getting it for free, the less money it makes for NBC and the more likely it will be canceled.
I suppose I won't be paying for NBC shows anymore though. :(

This is a very, dumb move by NBC. iTunes has helped them and even pretty much saved The Office at one point. So what NBC is now gonna distribute these shows themselves in some lame .nbc format that only streams or plays with there own lame player, or maybe via the .wmv format if they are feeling really nice. So now all the people who enjoy watching these shows on there apple devices.. Hey I know what we should do! Lets cut off a profit stream!

NBC is not just greedy but insane, US$4.99 for one episode!?

Or maybe they wanna promote their own new video on demand service http://www.hulu.com/, making those NBC content exclusive to the new platform definitely help its development.

I know many many sites have something like this but it still made me giggle.

NBC seems to have been the one to blink first, they're now saying their shows will appear this fall on the iTunes store but they are still trying to work out a more favorable deal for themselves. I can live with that.:

"The studio also insisted that all of its existing shows would see new episodes available for sale through iTunes in spite of Apple's declaration mid-Friday that it wouldn't carry updated NBC programming for the fall season. The company did not say how it intended to force Apple to agree to the terms, but appeared to use its existing contract as leverage."
