Let's talk about college football, the greatest sport in the world.*
*That statement is one of opinion and I don't wish to argue ;)

Not really a college football fan, but got free tix to the Mizzou/Illinois rivalry game. It was a pretty crazy topsy-turvy game.

That's so awesome Kwok! I'd do anything to a certain degree to get USC/UCLA tickets.. I actually sat down and saw a college football game other than USC/UCLA yesterday..

Tennessee lost to UCB, I'm ok with it because it was a great game that gives me hope for TN as a true contender for the SEC title.

The Division 1-AA Championship is held annually in my city and Appy state has been a regular fixture there these past few years, as such I've become quite a fan of the little team that could.
Since the press has been primarily Michigan-centric, focusing on how they lost, what it means for their season, their coach, etc., I thought I'd bring some Appalachian perspective to those who are interested:
Fellow forumers, words cannot do justice to what the last 36 hours or so have been for this Appalachian State alumnus. Folks around here know that we've always been proud of our wonderful football team, which has done a heck of a job in the last 10 years or so (I graduated in 2002 and they were becoming a solid contender every season), winning back-to-back Division 1-AA Championships the past two years. But for our team to have this kind of place in college football history, is something simply hard to wrap our minds around.
When it was announced that we'd be AT ANN ARBOR the first game of our season, we knew that win or lose it would be HUGE for our school to get the publicity. Our guys always come to play, so to have the attention of 110,000 fans in attendance and a television audience, we knew it would mean good things for our program. We just didn't know HOW good.
Failing to get tickets for the shindig in Ann Arbor (the few thousand we could buy went mainly before they went "on sale"), I took the game in at a restaurant called Stool Pigeons in downtown Charlotte - a place which has become the "official alumni gathering place" for televised games in recent years. Needless to say it was jam-packed and got incredibly rowdy as the game went on and we started feeling we actually had a chance. The rollercoaster of emotion we all went through in that game was amazing, and when that last kick came back blocked, with Lynch going the other way, the Appalachian fans in attendance simply erupted. Beer, water, etc. flew everywhere and people who'd never met each other before the game were crying and hugging each other as they realized what their beloved Mountaineers had accomplished.
Today I wore another ASU shirt out to run errands and I was stopped by alumni, fans, people not affiliated with the school, and one guy who wasn't even a football/sports fan, just to talk about what had happened and what it meant to our school.
Everyone should know that this is NOT what most ASU fans consider the crowning achievement of Appalachian football - that would be the National Championships, and even disregarding this game we've been super excited to have a shot at being the first team in history to win 3 in a row. Little did we know that after the Michigan game we'd already have made history. I hope it simply makes people interested enough to find out what Appalachian's all about - a wonderful school that's in a wonderful town in a wonderful part of the world...that also happens to have a wonderful football team. I also hope everyone's enjoying what the moment meant to college football history.

Chattanooga loves Appy State, they bring like 10,000 people to town for the 1AA Championship and are the most well behaved and good natured crowd of football fans you will ever meet.

One of the only things I like more than comics is SEC football. If Auburn beats LSU, Florida, and Alabama, I consider that a good season.

I appreciate the hope that the Bama folk continue to muster after so many coaching changes. Except for Thanksgiving weekend, I hope this is a good season for you.

Definitely in basketball this year. In football there's a good chance.
