View Full Version : Resurrection of: The Zombie plan thread

I didn't see this thread resurrected from the old forums, so I thought I'd throw it out there.

What are your plans should a zombie invasion take place? Where would you go? What would you do?

The only retail chain near me is a Super Walmart. I'd probably load up on water and whatever weapons we can scrounge, and head on up there. It's not too far by car, but if the car decides to be a PITA that day it will be quite a hike. So I may have to borrow some kid's wagon to put the little moppet into, and start running like hell.

Best part about our Super Walmart is that since it's on the highway there is NOTHING around it for miles. Not even too much foliage, being Texas cow country. So, easy to defend from the roof. Second best part... huge knitting and crafts section... (refer to my "Post Apocalypse Trade Skill" thread for further details.) :D

Plan A:
I would utilize my current hurricane supplies, plywood up the house. Find a way to collect rain water. Write "Help Me" on the roof and sharpen my bowie knife till help comes... if it comes.

Plan B:
Wait for Bob Newhart to wake and it all was a dream

I would first ducktape a butcher knife to my baseball bat and try to make it to the nearest mall. I'd probably steal a car or two.... or three.

Dude, don't try and stab zombies. Shoot them from afar or bludgeon them. If you can cut heads off that might work but man are you taking some bad ass risks trying to use a knife! Did Divadawg give you that advice?!?

What type of Zombies are we talking about here?

28 Days Later? (not to be confused with Zombie movie of a similar name - 28 Days)
Cell? (OK, technicaly, neither 28 Days Later or Cell are Zombe movies, but the end result is the same).
Dawn of the Dead?
Shaun of the Dead?

If it is the 28 Days Later or Cell type zombies, then holing up in a SuperWalmart would work.

All I know is that I would avoid Toronto and Vancouver. They tend to have the highest concentration of Zombies. Actually, I would avoid Canada entirely, and head for an island - perhaps somewhere off the Carolina coast (temperate climate - but prone to hurricane damage) with a single bridge access road that could be defended, then do a house to house sweep through the island, wiping out any Zombies you find until the island is clear.

Wasn't 28 Days the Sandra Bullock movie where she is holed up in a rehab hospital?
Wasn't The Cell the movie with Jennifer Lopez where she was holed up in a serial killer's mind in order to find his latest victim?
Is it true that Zombie's can't swim, I wouldn't be so sure.
Zombie's never seem very bright (the best case scenario seems to be Omega Man, but they aren't quite Zombies), so if you holed up in a large apartment building, you could lock the stairwells and they wouldn't necessarily know you are there.
If everyone was turned to zombies the Wal-Mart's and Costco's would be the worst place to go, they're more crowded than any place, you want to go to K-Mart or Zellers, you know, some place where the only people are the 15 year olds that have to work there.

Yes, 28 Days was the Sandra Bullock movie where she was in rehab ... and that wasn't a Zombie movie?? Did you see it? It left me brain dead.
"Cell" - book by Stephen King (and soon to be a movie (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0775440/)), not "The Cell".

BTW - I loved the Omega Man. Michael Crichton is a hit and miss author - when he is writing a book, it is brilliant, when he is writing a book to turn into a screen play it is terrible.

Omega Man was based on I Am Legend. And the scene of Heston and the girl with the afro jumping the vampires on a motorcycle make it totally worth it. 'Cept she has a beard in that shot...

Augh... they're making a movie of it? For those that haven't read the book (doing this as NON SPOILERY as possible) a big chunk of the world gets turned into zombies by their cell phones.

Don't ask, I'll just spoil too much if I say any more.

It was an okay book, but I have a feeling they're going to **** this one all up.

is there a way to have a zombie as a pet and teach it bite someone on command?

I didn't actually read Cell, I listened to the audiobook (full, not abridged) when I went to Europe earlier this year.

Hollywood needs to get some original stories, and authors need to stop writing books so they translate straight into a script. The art of story telling has been lost by the Stephen Kings and Michael Crichtons of the world ... its now all about the movie rights and loses the plot and character development :(

Back on topic - anyone here work in a medical lab? We need to know where we can go for antidotes and research into a "cure".

I'm taking the artist discussion to a new thread.

RE: research for a cure, I'd head for one of the Centers for Disease control... yes, SK demonstrated how they could be breached easily, but I still think you'd want to check it out.

Read Max Brooks Zombie Survival Guide people. It will make you feel like you would be able to handle the insane shit that will happen when zombies take over.

To the dude with the baseball bat and knive, if you can stab them through the eye hole with it then youll be ok but if you arnt very efficent with it you will die. I would aslo suggest a crowbar for all its different uses.

I would hole up in an inner city school with lots of food and water and all the weapons I would have at my disposal. I would prefer to have a group of people with me. I could go into the whole thing but I really dont feel like typing up a huge post that no one will read anyway.

I'm pretty dangerous with the Bat and Knife combo.. The crowbar is good idea, I gotta add that to my shopping list.

Probably one of the greatest books ever. I think I read that they cast Will Smith in the lead for the new I Am Legend movie. Johnny Depp is also in it. Why do I have a feeling that this movie is going to some how suck and blow at the same time?

One word of advice from someone who would know. Always keep a sharp chain saw with extra gas close at hand. After all nothing will take off a zombies head quite like a chain saw.

I also propose an emergency Geekdrome anti-zombie/ninja/pirate compound where we can all gather and defend when the day comes.

Exactly! What would be the point of surviving the zombie apocalypse if we can't all get together and geek out about it afterward?

I was actually invited by my friends to take shelter in the biggest mall in our city when the zombies come. I honestly think it would be a terrible place to stay because there are too many glass walls seperating the outside/inside. I wouldnt feel safe being in there. I would probably just hole up in my house or the police station near my house.

Yeah, and vancouver gets a lot of Sci-fi flicks and TV series, but Blade's not really a Zombie movie.

briangilmore
10-15-2006, 08:40 PM
blades's not a zombie movie, but he could kick some serious ass...would he be immune to a zombie bite? Would a zombie bite kill a vampire and make it start to decay, or would it not want to bite the vampire b/c the vampire is already dead? I think it's the ladder. latter? latter.

THERE'S ONE THING that even in the old thread people are ALWAYS missing. How they would dress and A FACE MASK. If while slicing and dicing you get any zombie residue in your mouth, it would infect you and you would die.

I would dress like this:

-Black Ninja style face coverage with taped goggles on me.
- knee pads, elbow pads, and a kevlar vest (i'd hit up the cops station before embarking on any journey)
-black jeans, two layers (but not if i couldn'tn find this set up and still move like a gazelle.
- black longsleeve leather.

let's just hope they don't attack during the summer...

oh and my weapon of choice, of course, would be a Kill Bill Style Samurai sword. That and a baseball bat around my back as a backup. get it?! ugh...

Oh yeah ... and if the zombies are the result of biochemical research and happened to follow a loose plot from a video game, again, I'd avoid Toronto.

I tell ya - if it is undead you want in any way, shape, or form - Canadia is the place you'll find them, so it's also the prime place to avoid.

You wouldnt be able to move for shit, and the suit is made of plates that move around alot, youd be better off running around naked than with full knight armor.
