another light week for me, but the highlight is definitely the release of the second Checkmate trade! i can't wait, i loved the first collection but i find it to be too complicated to read month to month so i've commited to the trade

I may make two runs this week. Today I'm heading to Jim Hanley's because they've got a sale going on, and Thursday, I'll pick up some new stuff.

good point, I read it in issues but I always sit down and devote about 20 minutes to a methodical read and that helps me remember every important detail

DMZ: Vol.3 Public Works!

another book i've given up reading monthly. I just couldn't remember what was happening month to month and since DC refuses to put in a summary page, Public works was my last monthly arc. i'll be picking up vol. 4 in 6-8 months!

Buffy is my top pick, no doubt. Too early to call POW?

Sorrow should also be fairly kick ass.

Should I be embarrassed for even asking?

It's a Steve Niles horror Mini-series, love Steve Niles, love Bernie Wrightson (both revered in the genre... they're pairing was big news). It follows a killer with no conscience. Not that he's lost it through his deeds, it's just the way he was born. Then it dips into the mystery genre a bit as one falls in his lap. Not exactly Nancy Drew type mystery... more like... where does this trail of blood lead type of mystery. And I feel obliged to mention it is a monster story, zombies and vampires are present. I've never been shy to mention my love for them... but this is one of the best I've read in awhile. It hooked me from the first issue.

It's Part One of "One More Day" which could be the most controversial storyline of the year. It's the only reason I'm buying it.

I went on down to Jim Hanley's after work yesterday and picked up Watchmen, Y: The Last Man, books 5 & 6, and Super Teen-Topia #1. On Thursday, I guess I'll pick up Spider-Man, They Boy's, and the rest is a toss up.

Curse you, Labor Days and your holiday which postponed my life for a day!

Also, I'm picking up ASM #544. Y:The Last Man #58. Captain America. Few others we'll see when I get to the store.

Finally got around to buying the floppy single issue of amazing screw on head today while I was browsing in the store and HAD to get something, because it's wednesday. Very enjoyable.

GUess I'm most excited by the Doktor, wait, excited's not the right word.

Maybe intrigued...the first one wasn't very good.

Thought the same could be said for Madame Mirage...

Light light week, but it works out well for me after three weeks of trying to catch up.

I think I may pick up last week's Local for the heck of it to see if I want to get the trade. You guys know what I like, should I even bother? Romance/emo isn't really my thing SiP is like oil to my water ;))

Local is not so much a romance book as it a slice of life comic. Each issue is a year in Megan's life in a new city. She hooks up during that time, of course. Life would be incomplete otherwise. But Local is not Optic Nerve or Love The Way You Love.

Just really good character writing, both in the protagonist and setting of Local.

(Def. my past POW and just about any week it ships. I love you, Brian Wood.)

So I went to a new shop that opened next to a favorite diner of mine last night. I figured I'd grab dinner and check out their selection. Well they were putting out some of the new stock for today and the guy let me buy what he already had out. I'm not one for reviews, so I'm just going to do a short thought on the few I read.

Buffy #6 - Probably the first Buffy comic I really liked. I want Gile's sweater. A-
Incredible Hulk #110 - Why can't this WWH series live up to World War Hulk??
B-
Uncanny X-Men #57 - This series has been kind of meh for me, but the addition of a new character called Qwerty and the ramifications of her powers interests me a lot. B
Amazing Spiderman #544 - So this is the One More Day storyline huh? Didn't the whole Peter emptying his webbing out all over Stark already happen? Wasn't it even drawn the same way?? Wow... D

I feel a mod moving this post to the proper thread within the hour... ;)
