This week: The guys review Rob Zombie's Halloween remake, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Warhawk, the TV segment returns with previews of NBC's upcoming Fall line-up, including Bionic Woman and Chuck, and we journey to Rancho Cucamonga for Dan's favorite meal at The Melting Pot restaurant. It's the Totally Rad Show Episode 24: "Generosity" the one in which Alex is a meat and potatoes guy, Jeff is a sweaty mess, Dan gets up and leaves, and we all rely on the kindness of strangers.

Hey guys was watching the episode and heard you were coming to London and wanted a pub to check out.
You should definately try to find:
Ye Olde Mitre Tavern
It's one of the most hidden pubs in London and it's down some back alleyways from Victorian times in the centre of London it's like something from Neverwhere.

Hey Jeff, question for you.
In the T.V. intro you use a vacuum to vacuum Alex's hair.
Were you doing the vacuuming because you sold Roombas?
EDIT: Dan looks very grizzly in this episode with his beard and plaid. Is our little Dan becoming a man?

I grew up watching the original Halloween every October.
John Carpenter grew up in my home town of Bowling Green, KY and one of the things that scared the crap out of my was that he named things in the movie after real places in Bowling Green.
I lived about 4 miles from Smiths Grove where Micheal Myers escaped from the mental ward in the movie and also many of the streets in the movie where in my town. Any ways the new movie sucked and I'm sorry that my memory my be tainted by it.
Great show guys! keep'em coming.

Not a slasher flick, but if you want to see a movie with a ****ed-up, creepy kid, check out Joshua (http://www.metacritic.com/film/titles/joshua2007?q=joshua). Saw it at Sundance this past year, and it gave me the heebie jeebies.
I think I agree with all three of you on Warhawk--graphics are great, control is great, piloting the Warhawk is a hoot, all that is true. BUT, it just isn't that fun, I regret dropping the dough on it, and I'd much rather just play the CoD4 beta--which completely blows it away.
BTW, Alex, the 360 version of Battlefield is not nearly as twitchy as the PC version. You'd probably dig it.
Thanks, as always, for the show guys.

I went to London (and more of Europe) a few years ago during the summer going in to my freshmen year of high school. I really had a blast, but I don't think I can really help you guys out as far as thing to do, as my memory is somewhat foggy. I can say if you're looking for a hotel try the one by the London Eye (which, even though touristy, was cool), not necessarily a 5 star hotel but it had air conditioning and the summer I went was said to be the hottest summer in England (where was the rain!?). We went to Piccadilly Circus to the We Will Rock You musical and we even got a private double decker bus (we were there for my sister's soccer tournament across Europe) that drived us out to get some curry. But yeah, sorry I can't be much of a help, but I have fond memories of that summer.

Awesome episode, one of my favorites! It was definitely worth the extra wait.
Halloween - Not a fan of horror flicks, never saw the original and will probably not see the remake. The review was highly entertaining though.
TV - From the moment I saw the preview of Bionic Woman I had a feeling that it might be one of those shows that felt like same old same old. Although Dan's excitement made me want to check it out. I never even heard of Chuck before this ep, and it looks like I didn't need to know.
Games - Jeff's review of MP3 made me want a Wii even more. 10 months of searching, still NONE available in my area. My buddy got it though so I'll play it there :) What was up with Dan, it was quite hilarious!
Fondue - Fondue rocks!
I felt in this week's episode we got a real feel for what the actual "set" is like. It's scorchingly hot, full of crickets and has sprinklers in the vicinity.

This is why I need a Wii. I loved...LOVED, the first Metroid Prime. I still love Super Metroid too. I can't wait to play Prime 3 simply for the controls. Jeff sorry, I was also laughing at your ability to sweat profusely, Dan didn't help. But I hear you guys, my apartment is on the third floor and stupidly I have no AC and it's been a hot summer so far. Have I ever mentioned that I think Scarlett Johansson would be a great Samus in a Metroid movie?

Man, you guys dropped the ball on the title of this one. Back-Trachtenberg writes itself!
Anyways, I may have happened across some pilots in my random daily chores, by complete accident of course, and have to agree with your assessments. Chuck has a good premise, in theory, but it just didn't work in practice.
Bionic Woman looks promising, and I have blind faith that the story will be completely fleshed out and the show is in good hands in terms of direction. It's very important, methinks, that people watch this show while on air, because while NBC does give its comedies a little cancellation leeway, the same can't be said for its dramas. Tell that to Studio 60 and The Black Donnelly's.
Wait until you guys get to 'Pushing Daisies'. Best. Show. EVER.

Good ep guys. Maybe it's because I'm not really into the FPS genre, but I prefer the Metroid controls to dual analog. I feel like I'm much more precise with the wiimote. But, again, I'm not a seasoned FPSer. I'm happy to hear Jeff talk about the graphics/art of MP3 as well (Skytown is amazing). Retro (the people that made the Prime games) really does a good job on making interesting locations. I always fear that I'm going to miss something because of how intricate the worlds are. I'm having a lot of fun with the game right now. They really addressed the problems of Prime 2, and I have no doubt I'll still love this game in the end.

I SO agree with Dan about Halloween. The original is such a classic, such a perfect example of suspenseful film making. I'd read the reviews for the new one, I thought I knew what I was in for, but I'm not sure anything could have prepared me for the cinematic abortion I just witnessed. I certainly can't say I'm unbiased here...the original Halloween is easily in my top 20 favorite movies of all time. It just set the standard in every way possible for Horror films. But I dare say Rob Zombie just didn't get what made the original Halloween work AT ALL. Giving Michael Myers a white trash dysfunctional upbringing just totally misses the point; now he's not evil personified, he's just another serial killer with a ****ed up childhood. YAWN. Say what you will about the original, the movie had style and class. Rob Zombie just seems to want to replace any suspense or building tension from the original film with useless vulgarity and over the top kills. If he wanted to make a Friday the 13th movie, then he should have. But this is just not Halloween.
And there could have been a good movie in here. I kinda like the notion of focusing on Dr. Loomis' time with young Michael; the idea of a trained professional whose job it is to find the root of mental illness finally conceding, after 15 years, that the child in question essentially has no soul could have made for an interesting film. Instead we get all this bullshit about masks. And when we finally get to Haddonfield and are introduced to Laurie Strode, it becomes like the Halloween version of "The Star Wars Trilogy in 30 minutes" Just a faster, bloodier, tensionless highlight reel of the bulk of the original film. The girls could not have been less interesting. I love Laurie Strode in the original movie; I like how Jaime Lee Curtis gave her a certain amount of gravity; the one smart, thoughtful girl amongst a pack of self indulgent skanks. Here, Laurie is just another typical high school skank just like the others, not showing an ounce of personality or charisma or smarts. And for anyone who says "yeah, but she's hotter than Jaimie Lee" well, I agree, but sadly that's just not enough. At this juncture I'm expecting them to do a remake of Jaws, where we find out the shark's mother was a stripper and all the other sharks were mean to him in school. And I'm only half kidding when I say this.
JEFF: Do yourself a favor and see the original film, if only to wash the taste of this new one out of your mouth.
Wow, I didn't mean to turn this into yet another Halloween rant, but I don't think I've ever agreed with Dan on a flick more than this one.
I still find it weird that it's only episode 24, feels like they've been around forever (in the world of Rev3).
The fire-pouring was cool at the Melting Pot. You guys said Rancho Cucamonga right? I shoulda gone there I was in L.A. this summer, wish you had mentioned it earlier so I could try fondue (I didn't grow up in the '70s).
Dan is evil. My sides hurt from laughing. <3
I wish that he had told us what he was laughing about, I felt that I was crazy, laughing at the nothing that Dan was laughing at. We've all had those moments before, but he must have known that he would screw with a lot of people. I guess it was just the heat.

btw - if you guys want to check out another pilot with bad cliche nerd jokes - check out the new show called "Big Bang Theory" on CBS this fall. When I was in Vegas, I actually had the chance to preview the pilot to rate what I thought. Bad nerd jokes :/ They did show World of Warcraft for a second, which was amusing to me, but otherwise the show was very unfunny.
Halloween... of course it was going to suck. Rob Zombie flicks are horrible
Maybe him and Uwe Boll should get together on a project haha.
Metroid is Great! Best looking and playing Wii title so far.
Warhawk is awesome, most fun I've had playing my PS3.
Just a tip for anyone wanting to get a grip on the controls, create a LAN game or private game. This way you can play by yourself to mess around with the Warhawks and other vehicles. Also joining an 8 player game is less chaotic and will allow you to get better for those big 32 player battles.
Just some info Alex and Dan, joining games is just as easy as Xbox Live.
I don't understand why you guys were having so much trouble.
Simply go to your buddy list in Warhawk it's under the community tab, (it uses your PS3 friends list) highlight your friends name and select join game its that easy.
Great show!

This episode was pretty rad. I wish I could try MP3 but it'll be a while. It sucks having a Wii since launch but being unemployed when the good games start coming out. Although I will probably only watch Superbad when it's on cable and I have nothing to watch, I like how you stuck to your guns (well, most anyway). Although Bionic Woman seems like a cool premise, Burn Notice was really the only show in a long time to grab me from episode 1. I'll probably watch the first 3 or show episodes and then see if I like where it's going. Warhawks seems cool but I'm staying away from the PS3 probably forever (I'll probably get a 360 though. With a discount or price drop more likely).
Nice show guys. Keep up the awesome work. Also, interesting restaurant. I might check it out. I believe there are three coming soon to NY.

If we can hear the crickets AND the sprinklers, the AC would make it impossible to hear anything. I say a "silent" fan is the best way to go (as long as air doesn't blow into the mics).

Maybe it wasn't clear in the ep, but the problems they were having had more to do with getting voice chat up and running - to which I can relate. The bluetooth headset setup is not intuitive or easy.

Great show.. enjoyed it.. blah blah...
This is the first time I've felt a... disturbance... in the Rad. Usually you've guys and I are spot on about whats rad and whats not. (Superbad I gave you a pass cuz... well no one's perfect.)
But you guys LIKED Bionic Woman? I mean LIKED it? The "hey look my sister is deaf" - sister, the "my boyfriend just got shot and is bleeding to death but lets sit here and talk" scene didn't make you want to ban piracy just so people wouldn't see it?
I'm all for sci-fi, and stretching reality... and I love watching hot girls kick ass. But this is... this... is... stupid.
Its like they took all the crappy parts of BSG and made a remake.
Boo, cancel it and make something else, please.
Now about Chuck.
I get that civilians using nerd humor inappropriately is annoying, and I understand how you guys would think its worth mentioning how "wrong" they got it.
But, NO ONE ELSE CARES.
The general populace isn't going to get why they shouldn't be laughing at something some actor playing a nerd on TV says. They don't know the culture and they don't need it to enjoy the show. My wife loves this show, its not changing the scope of television or anything, but its fun, funny, and just different a enough to seem new.
All you guys seem to do is nitpick about the "nerd humor" and which I understand the need to mention, but I didn't hear anything else concrete about what you thought was so bad. I found it entertaining, and fresh.
Sincerely,
A very disappointed Kilroy Perrywinkle

Wow, you must really hate people who share their opinions of things so much that you watch a podcast where three people share their opinions of things.... wait... what?
Listen I'm not being a jerk, I just thought it was a crap salad. You can defend the show Bionic Galatica however much ya want, but at the end of the day I still find the most remarkable thing about that show the American accent done by the English lead actress.
And if I had known I'd get this reaction from viewers of a such a great funny, witty, opinionated show where people share their opinions of things... well my head would of exploded.
I don't need to agree to with the show to like it, and I love the fact that they can take criticism better than people in the forum about their show.
Come on guys, really... its just a TV show (crap salad)... its not like I re-crucified Jesus.

The guys didn't like the show. It wasn't a favourable review. It was a nice way of saying they didn't really like it. I didn't call you a jerk, I was merely pointing out that you made a knee-jerk reaction. You agree with them and for some reason you're acting like they loved it.

First, sorry if I was mistaken if I took "...relying on your knee, jerk." as a backwards and clever way of using the comma to call me a jerk...
(Which I secretly LOVED, btw, and I'm now sort of disappointed if I took that wrong.)
And second, I don't agree with them. That was the point of my first post. I felt the opposite of what they did. (I liked Chuck... unliked Bionic Borman)
And thirdly, this whole thing is giving me a unRad headache.

Hey, great show as always. Personally, I think Metroid Prime 3 is as just as good as the last 2 MP's. The reason I think it feels more like a shooter is because when you lock on, you still have to aim, which makes combat FUN. lol. On the movie side of things, I am not even remotely interested in the Halloween remake, I've seen the original and it is awesome. Don't think they should of even tried to remake it. That doesn't mean it won't do good at the box office, hell, they will probably make another 6 after this one anyway. On a side note, you guys know that Avatar is coming back this month right?!?! Can't wait for that. Well that's my piece. See you guys next week!

Dan, what the hell was so funny anyway? I was laughing watching this and i didn't even know what was so funny.
There was a moment when I looked over at Jeff, face DRENCHED in sweat and out of the corner of my eye I saw that Alex noticed it at the EXACT same time I did and I knew that HE knew that we both saw it and we were gonna have to try to not laugh-- but he smirked, and that killed me. From then on I could not look at Alex and not keep a straight face. This happens a lot, Alex knows this--- watch back the episode you can see the evil within.
And then, of course, once you start you can't stop...like pringles.

So, I walked into a subway car at time square that was completely decorated in a "Chuck" theme. I couldn't help thinking about the tormented souls that would be reminded of "Chuck" on their way to the afterlife or afterwork...whatever.
I began thinking of the promotional machine behind such trash. It would seem that they could make a show a hit out of force of sheer will. Would this consistute a super power?
Anyhow, I would have snapped a picture of it with my cell, but a homeless guy was using the car as a motel room for the night. The Times Square shuttle just goes back and forth so it never reaches the end of a line where everyone has to get off. So, it makes a perfect place for homeless guys to get some rest. I don't envy the poor bastard's dreams while reposed in the "Chuck" enshrined conveyence.
Or, maybe the poor homeless guy is the head writer or something...

The ad machines for the big corporations is crazy.
I "acquire" all my tv shows from - other - sources, so I don't see a lot of commercials, but the not-so-little ads that pop up at the bottom of the screen every now and then are driving me crazy. It started with small text and now I get the doe eyed Bionic Brunette or some other equally undramatic looking actor staring at some spot behind me for 20 seconds every 15 or so mins.
Goodness Big Media, promote your shows during the commercial breaks! Gah.
If I were paying for this to come into my home I'd be pissed.

I think that the "lower-third-invasion" is to combat people fast forwarding through the commercials of their DVRs. Or, just flipping to FOX on the commercials.

When I was in Yorkshire (many years ago) and I went to the Yorkshire Dungeon. There was one in London too. Basically it's a museum in which mannequins graphically depict authentic medieval torture.
The website makes me think there are rides and that it's a theme park now, but if the torture museum is there I highly recommend it.

Dan was not having a laughing fit. Dan was off-camera stomping on crickets while running through the sprinkler to cool off. That's what he was doing.

Thanks for the warnings about "Halloween" but I wasn't in much danger of seeing it since I think RZ is a piss-poor movie maker to begin with. Now, if only there was a Melting Pot near me, I'd be set.

The voice chat wasn't working for us BUT we also had a very hard time getting into the same game. If I was in a game, it wouldn't be visible to Alex (in the community tab) and if Alex was in a game, it wouldn't let me join it even if there were open slots. The sony servers, though, did help with this issue...
Sorry my laughter fit kept me from discussing this on the show "coherently" :(
I know what u mean by having a hard time joining, the first few days were almost impossible since every room said full. I was trying to show my brother the game, and it took me forever to get into a room to show him the game.
With that being said, I hope I get to play you guys again sometime for more than 2 minutes (and with voice working, etc.) so we can have fun! :)

I always think of Wayne's World when I see that part of the TV segment intro. Didn't actually realise that these things existed for real.

Melb's pretty good. Better than Sydney and Adelbrain. We started calling it brizvegas when Jupiters Treasury opened up. I worked as a photog for all the photo promotion when Treasury opened. I used to live on Vulture St on the tip of Southbank. $320/month back in the day. Brisbane does probably have the largest series of choices for kinds of things to do and variety of lifestyle.
