A) This episode, by it's self, is not worth becoming a member
B) Supporting Rev3 + early Diggnation it's self is enough for me
C) It shows that Rev3 is going to a great direction with member only shows.
I say, 'Do it', but don't think that this episode alone is going to warrent.

i would have to say yeah its worth it. i myself just signed up and paid for the first time so i could watch it. if you were a fan of techtv and sarah lane then yeah definatly do it. it sure does bring me back anyways.
So this isn't get it early payed member, but only for payed members.
Thats crap, yea I'd pay, if i had the money for it. geeez

I subscribed just 'cause I love what Rev3 does. I watch most of the shows, and enjoy getting Diggnation a li'l early. ;)

ive been a member for very long time, and its 5 bucks a month, so totally worth it
...and there is no doubt there will be more. I think if Sarah gets her way every Rev3 person would have a cameraperson lurking behind them. ;)

I love me some Revision3 too. I watch a majority of their shows as soon as they come out. I'm also very interested in the Gazette, but I'm not going to pay for it. I don't know why, I pay for cable, I have TiVo, I swear I'm not a cheap-o kinda guy. I just don't feel there is enough value there for my 5 bucks.... I don't know why, but thats my 2¢

I'm right on the verge. I think I can justify the yearly fee a lot better somehow. I hate being nickled and dimed (5-10 dollar'd) every month for something. Knowing that more Patrick is on the way puts me over the top in all likelyhood.
It's cheaper than an iPod Touch at least.

this frustrates me that the new gazette show is for paid members only. i really do love revision3, but there are several reasons I don't feel ready to shell out the measly 5.
For one, some of the shows seem to be in limbo (ctrlaltchicken, mysteries of science, webdrifter). More consistency please. I realize that there are scheduling issues, but when you're asking me for money..can't i expect a regular schedule?
Another thing, that I think many fans would agree with, is you should let the content itself be free to the masses. Give paid members other benefits such as HD res, earlier release, etc. I don't think it really helps much to hold content itself back forever. But what do I know.
still a huge fan of you guys. just want be heard.
steve
That's what they are doing... Offering HD res stream for members only, additional behind the scenes, etc. The main content is available free to the masses.
So it seems to me they are hearing you and doing what you asked for...

I don't think you're gonna win everyones heart. The more to try and add features to add value to a subscription, the more people who don't want to pay on principle will feel excluded.
The more you add subscribed features, the more hard-liners are gonna be pissed off that you've excluded them.
For what it's worth, I think you're doing the right thing so far.

I didn't think about it that way, to me it was a show that I couldn't see without paying... I guess as more value is added to me being a member, maybe then i will pay, but then again maybe not, i guess time will tell.
I didn't want to sound like i was complaining.

I enjoy paying $5/ month because I like the idea that people like Haan Jessica, Sarah, Alex, Dan, Martin, Jeff et al. are getting the opportunity to do something that they love. I'm not so short sighted or self centered that I'm worrying about just what I'm getting in trade for the donation.
For me, it's not a quid-pro-quo transaction. I enjoy the occasional extra perk. But, I'm really interested in the overall viability of Revision 3 as a business.
I'm not purchasing a service. I'm helping support people I like to do things that they love.
I'm also doing something to ensure the continuation of a stream on entertainment that I've come to enjoy and would miss.
I think they everyone who can pay $5 a month, should pay $5 month. Even if they feel the extra subscriber perks don't warrant the donation, combined with other $5 subscribers, this donation is much more valuable than millions in venture capital. It helps make Rev3 independent of investors and advertisers. Think about it.

I've been a subscriber for nearly a year... Why? Because I'm donating and helping a really cool company. Revision3's shows are there own property and they can do whatever they want with it, including only giving certain shows to subscribers. No one has a right to complain about what Rev3 does with there own content.

i guess i missed the HD thing for diggnation. very nice! I hope this is planned for the rest of the shows as well. i also didnt want it to seem like i was *****ing, but i was pretty flustered earlier when i could not watch what i thought was sarah's new 'show'.
i will still consider becoming a member, but it will be an easier decision when some of the other great shows I mentioned are on regular release schedule.
thanks for actually reading what we gots to say jay.

If it's for members-only... Why does it say "This episode is currently available for early release to paid members only. It will be available to everyone soon."?
Can someone clear this? Will this ever be public, or will always be member-only?
EDIT: hah, nvm, found the answer in the next topic, sorry 'bout that :) .
Hi guys,
Actually, that's a mistake on our part and needs to be fixed. The Revision3 Gazette is a feature for members only, not because we want to leave anyone out, but because we want to give our members more reasons to love us!
For those of you who can watch, I hope you enjoy it. Membership has its benefits. :)
I hear both sides of this and completely understand. Ultimately, just like a television station, we'll produce regular shows on a predictable schedule for the public. The membership will be for hard-core fans who want something extra, special access to us, etc. That gap will probably increase as (hopefully) Revision3 becomes more and more popular.
Meanwhile, reading your posts, I must say... I'm humbled and I deeply appreciate the support you all have for making Revision3 a success. Paying a membership fee is a huge sacrifice, I know, and all of us at Revision3 REALLY APPRECIATE IT. We want to get to the point where you have the confidence in us (as does the business community) where you can really feel the value of your effort.
Meanwhile, we're going to try to pay you back with special stuff.
Thanks everyone.

i totally agree with u.
i am such a big fan of about half the shows on rev. 3 that i feel that i should at least donate 5$ a month just for using their servers and the fact that my small donation is helping something that i think is worth the cause. i know ppl who give a 20$ to bumbs on the street which i know are going to spend that money on booze and hard drugs that got them begging on the street in the first place. i mean seriously? if u cant save up 5$ of your lunch money to support something that u actually enjoy watching well... gods prob. going to kill a kitten in spite of your greed.
im done ranting now...

There's nothing wrong with pirating the occasional bit of media. However, if it's your life's mission to "Back-up" every disk you rent from Netflix, you have a problem.

I know 2 people that do that! I agree about occasionally pirating but I'd add only things that you wouldn't buy.

Yeah, that's true. I don't torrent everything under the sun, but if I miss a certain show on friday nights at 9 central on USA, I do get the new episode. But it's not like people that don't see Diggnation on Sundays can't just go back to see it.

I kinda feel that way about over-priced software. The kind of stuff that is targeted enterprises so it really shafts the individual users. I'm looking at YOU Adobe...shame on you.
However, most movies I wouldn't buy anyway, I don't wanna even waste a blank DVD on either. I can get these from Netflix anytime I want. I have to be very careful about adding new stuff to my shit-pile of stuff.

Disagree on the movies but see your point, I collect DVD's, but I like having the real copy not a burned or downloaded version, same with CD's. I agree completely about the Adobe software :does the shifty eye thing: he he

I agree with you on having the actual discs, but at the same time I'm not going to pay the same price for a shitty movie that I do for an awesome movie, so I tend to either see the awesome movie in theaters or
1) "eh" movie.Watch(Torrents);
2) If ("eh" movie.Awesome) buy;
3) ???
4) Profit.

I'd love to collect DVDs. However, with two kids crammed into about 1,200 square feet, I don't have the storage space for a mammoth DVD collection. Not to mention that most of the DVDs I actually own I haven't watched more than once. I enjoy movies, but a rarely view a given title more than twice. For me, owning the video is pointless.
Indeed, I used to own VHS tapes. I noticed that not only did I not watch the tapes, I used the ownership as an excuse to avoid watching them. It was as if the act of ownership was a substitute for watching. I'm strange, I know.
I know this guy with like 2,000 DVDs. It's a sickness. He goes to Walmart and empties that bargin bin.

Oh, I can see that. It gives you an excuse not to watch it, "I can watch it anytime".
I would love to go empty the bargain bin except I usually can't find anything good in them. Also I cant stand all those people that flock to them and search through them like savages. Not that everyone that buys DVDs out of them does that, but there are plenty of them. "Ohhh, a sale, I HAVE to buy something".
