I'm really waiting for the day that the target audience for the Superman line of comics gets matured. Not MAX/Vertigo matured but something the lines of Bendis/Brubaker's Daredevil.
Looking at the cover of Superman Confidential #7, I think there's hope for going down that path =)

I'm buying the issue for the cover alone.... The continuum didn't state who did the cover but can't we have the cover artist do the interior for Action Comics / Superman as a regular? :)

I don't like Superman books, and I would buy that Superman. That's a great image. Just like I started buying the more realistic (i.e. non-porn star) Supergirl.

Wow, that looks great.
Immediately my new desktop. wife be damned.
When I read the title of the thread I was sure you was refering to Eric Powell. I just picked up Action Comics for the first time ever and I LOVE Powell's take on Superman!
My favorite comic these days is All Star Superman, but apart from that I've only read the ocational Superman story here and there. Superman: Red Son and Birthright. But I'm on Action Comics for as long as Powell handles the pencils!

That's what I was thinking. It just has the hair, and cheekbones.

This thread now has me imagining Brubaker and Lark's Superman, so I'll be spending the evening picking up the pieces of my mind.
Who actually did the cover?

Who actually did the cover?
That would be Eric Powell. He's the creator of The Goon.

What if Brubaker AND Jae Lee switched camps? I'd love to see a Jae Lee supes.
Powell's up there is gorgeous, though. I'd pick that up as well...and am going to?...

Oops. I was thinking of a completely different Superman artist. Damn me and my retardness.
The cover artists for that pin-up are listed as:
Koi Turnbull and Sandra Hope
I can only find info on Turnbull, and even that is just a Wiki Page:

Guedes has done Superman before. But only for a short while.
The Action Comics issue he did not too far back with the Legion and Supergirl looking back on Superman's childhood was outstanding.*
*(#850? I don't remember.)

Looks real good...could it be possible I'll be buying TWO Superman books a month? Will wonders ever cease?
Now the only thing that matters is will the stories be able to match the amazing art. I'm registering on the "hopefully optimistic."

WOW. Just WOW. Is that interior art? My head just exploded. I think that is waay better than the original image posted on this thread. Does anyone like the work that Gary Frank is doing on Action right now? I kind of like it.

It's probably a cover image, but that's the interior artist, yes.

I like the style. I don't like the extreme angle. Bloated and angry about it.

I've been raving about it. I can honestly say I've never been this excited about a Superman comic.

He's an industry veteran. He's worked on everything at one point or another. He's probably best known for his runs with Peter David on Incredible Hulk and Supergirl or JMS on Midnight Nation and Supreme Power.
The best part about Frank is that he's known to be a quick artist and can continually pump out about 10 books a year, which is crazy fast for a style like his.

Luthor beat me to it. Yeah, Frank has been around for a while now.
I love his Supergirl run with an irrational passion. His Hulk run was pretty recent and very good.

Yeah, this is the first time that I have picked up an in DC continuity superman book and I am totally digging it. I like where the story is going to. Was Johns other work on Action any good? I know he did that stuff with Richard Donner but I don't remember if that was recommended or not.

Well, that will be easier to answer when the run actually finishes. I believe the story will conclude in the Annual coming out in January. Johns' run with Donner was pretty decent, but experienced the delays of Civil War and The Ultimates added together.

I clicked on this thread thinking Frank was the artist the title referred to. Because he's awesome.
