The problem is, even by that point the soul of TechTV was already dead. IIRC Dan has said that when they were down in LA they would make him fake the calls on TSS and I'm sure there was even more shit going on behind the scenes. Really, everything post San Francisco wasn't nearly as good.

Couldn't agree more, well said. However I still watched until it became AOTS, even Sarah couldn't get me to keep watching. I do remember that episode though...

Same here. I once of those people spamming the G4 forums for a month after they moved to LA. I was even asking for Alex to get the boot which makes me feel bad now because I like him on Diggnation.

Ah, the good days. Watch TSS, then X-Play, then Unscrewed. Was a simpler time back then.

Well there are ways of doing that... Personally I use a laptop, an s-video cable, and a pc speaker y cable. If you have a laptop that's a very cheap and easy way to do it (Of course now a days there's even better ways but if you don't have the equipment they're even more expensive. I need a wireless adapter for my 360, that's $100! I don't know why I felt the need to explain this here, ah, I'm bored.

That was really entertaining. I wish I was into technology/had the channel/knew about TSS back then.
Hmm... So it's clear you all loved TSS as I did, but what DIDN'T you like about TSS?

I uploaded the final episode of TSS on Youtube a month ago for those who care:
Start Here (http://youtube.com/watch?v=zBoE4lofZCg)
The show changed dramatically when Alex appeared on it. I believe that's when they changed from San Fran to LA.

Interesting question... I can name a hundred things about the last season... However if you watched then you know what they are, that's obvious. I honestly just spent over 5 minutes thinking about it but can't come up with an answer. I will tell you this though, the number one thing that I did like about TSS was the "family" feel of it and the professional yet amateur appearance. It took place on a very "rough" looking set (Which the last season didn't have) and I felt that everyone on the show were good close friends and that even the close following were a part of it. But it wasn't that mainstream so it felt like our special group. TechTV fans in general stuck together. I remember hanging out on Leoville back in the day. I've been following Rev3 since its launch (Including the shows before it's launch, such as The Broken) but am only now starting to post here like I did on Leoville, the reason being because Rev3 is starting to have that old feeling but there is nothing like that live feel that no Rev3 show has yet.
I hope something from all that helps.

Kind of a love/hate thing, but some of the questions. I felt some of them were extremely simple, but on that same token some questions brought an answer that I wouldn't have considered, or the question was something I was mildly interested in, but didn't know it.
I'd say the other thing that I really hate in TV shows, most obvious in current shows like XPlay and AOTS. Is filler segments that are pure shit. I know still targeted at G4, but they are the best example. All their "road to G4phoria" or event coverage crap, because...
1) It's crap, bad writing, no or little actual information, etc.
2) It completely feels like filler. Most likely because of content (see #1)
3) This is my by far my biggest issue with any event coverage, NEVER "throw it" to someone else unless they are actually going to talk about stuff. I caught part of the G4 comic-con coverage, more by accident than anything else, but they "threw it" to someone, who said approx. where they were in the convention center, and then proceeded to "throw it" to the next person, who did the same. So there was about 10 minutes of this throwing shit, and probably half a minute of real information.
As far as complaints pertaining to TSS, later on after Leo and Pat left there were some segments that felt worthless. Not that they were bad segments, but that they didn't fit into what TSS is about, bringing tech down to a level almost anyone can understand while still showing off cool things in tech that even advanced users might not know. I'm sure we have all seen the skit of Kevin with the keyboard. That was hilarious, but I also remember some that were not funny, and honestly, Kevin with the keyboard felt like time filler, a good funny one, but still a time filler. Which is fine by me, as long as it isn't a pile of shit time filler.
Sorry for the rant, but you asked for it Jay.

Thats a tough one. I think TSS has alot to do with my pursuing a degree in Computer Sciences.
I remember sitting down with a piece of notebook paper and pen and actually taking notes of things I learned on TSS. I still have those notes laying around here somewhere actually...

Oh man, I know exactly what you mean. Alex seemed to embody everything that was evil about the G4 merger to me. He just didn't seem to be as knowledgeable as the good TechTV guys. I actually had a hard time with Diggnation initially because I had a seething hatred for Alex because I saw him as one of the reasons TechTV was killed off. Now, of course, I realize the error in my ways.

The fact that it was on at 4.00 and I didn't get home from school and extracurriculars until 5.30 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Usually didn't get home until past 10 on Fridays because of football games... leaving Wednesdays. I missed so many episodes because of that.
That being said, the episode from which that clip originates was on a Wednesday. :D

When G4 bought Tech TV and TSS was moved to LA then cancled later on.
TSS rocked when it was in San fran...it was best when Pat and Leo hosted but still awesome with Pat and Kevin.
When it hit LA and Alex and Kevin hosted sorry but the show just lost most it's focus and just stunk..I did not think it could get worse ..dear god I was wrong when it became AOTS.

Sure Miss the days of ZDTV/Tech Tv with TSS. Leo, Patrick, Kevin, Yoshi, And the many others. Modding and teaching us the ways to use the force LOL.
I Miss the Lan Party's and everything about TSS
Nothing there that I Didn't like other than the down hill last season when it all went to the dump!
Sure Wish I had the $$ to start a New Tech Tv To Kill the Evil G4 and reunite the Techies of the world
Too bad.
Anyway G4 isn't any good, and a very bad replacement for TechTv!
They say AOTS is the new TSS but they are Crazy! I have never seen anything on AOTS that closely resembles the cool & fun stuff they covered on "The Screen Savers"

Geez, this post makes me a little sad -- the original video posted in this thread doesn't get me so much as the recollections of subsequent posters recalling TechTV...
But heck, I remember loving The Screen Savers when it was still owned by Ziff Davis and was known as ZDTV. I remember stumbling upon ZDTV while flipping through my cable channels I think sometime around my freshman year in highschool (circa 1998), and it was a revelation. It must have been a weekend since it was light out still and I was watching TV at home. First thing that I ever saw on ZDTV was Fresh Gear with now Rev3 CEO Jim Louderback and now CNN correspondent Sumi Das. I thought it was great, I had never seen anything close to it on TV at the time; just the depth of the reviews and the gadgets theyhad there, it was wonderful.
The Screen Savers with pat and Leo was great too, and realy the reason I watched so much ZD/TechTV. I know that I am preaching to the choir, but it is just said that AOTS, especially in its current incarnation, can be traced back to TSS -- they are not anything alike. I won't go into it too much since it's been covered in this thread already, but that was a really great show.
It's been mentioned a couple of times already, but when ZD/TechTV was left San Francisco and moved to LA, they lost a lot of good on-air talent; but to me, more than that, they lost the city of SF itself as a backdrop. I know it may seem like a small thing, but I missed things like Fresh Gear reviews being done in golden gate park, or at the Presidio, etc. I missed the TSS opening with patrick running down one of those characteristic SF hills (at least that's what i remember. lol). I guess that's just a very personal touchstone for me...the old ZD/TEchTV shows had a lot in them of one of my favorite cities.
Guess it was no surprise that I just ended up hating what was left of TechTV when it moved to LA (which is funny, because I live in LA).
I also loved all those little, off beat shows like Internet Tonight (Michaela Ferrera's old gig right?), Dvorak vehicle and Cranky Geeks predecessory Silicon Spin, and of course, Leo on Call for Help :)
anyhow, that was long winded, but all the ZDTV/TechTV shows have a special place in my heart :)
