I don't really care one way or the other if we're "allowed" to talk about tech issues in this forum. If I am not allowed to offer my help to others here then so be it. What I take issue with is closing a thread because an opinion is different than a mod. I fail to see any sort of flame war as suggested. What's going on, are our simple opinions now being moderated? There aren't any trolls here, no one is abusing anyone. No one is being offensive.... what's the deal?

Personally I think we should be able to talk about anything as long as it doesn't get really sexually explicit, or racsist/overly nationalist in anyway... I think obvious trolls should be kept out. I think to these things there should be warnings.... also any discussion on kitchen appliances should be dealt with in the form of extreme prejudice. We don't think the other forums suck. We just don't like ppl saying we need to broaden our scope. I say bring out Geekdrome on a Monday and then we can talk. I just don't give a crap about the other forums. If we wanna have a tech question we should be able to.

Brian Gilmore is our mod of choice. He knows us best. We respect his judgements. We just feel like the other guys want us outside of Geekdrome and are flexing mod muscles at this point.

Stop stopping threads...ask us if we want a certain thread or not before you prevent us from posting about it.

Respect us more than that.

As for power trips and such the spot that gets me is http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=936 being closed by tokenuser while http://revision3.com/forum/showthread.php?t=921 posted by tokenuser is still open. They are both about pretty much the same thing. So that's where the "power trip" and double standard posts may come from. I can't speak for everyone else but that's my main peeve.

As for venturing out I've said before why should we go out to a thread that isn't active just because that's where it's suppose to go. I'd rather ask people I know and trust. Do you ask strangers for help or ask your friends?

Let me clear some things up....

All of us are global moderators which means we are moderators for ALL of the forums. Certain mods are assigned to certain forums so that one mod can focus on one forum and filter through the content instead of feeling obigated to serach every thread of every forum (thats not always possible). However as stated before all mods are global mods and moderate EVERY board.

If a topic is posted in one forum when it should have been posted in another then its going to be moved. Its as simple as that, that is our rule so you can take it or leave it. Its not that big of a deal, this is a really general rule and has been in play on every single forum I have ever been to. Here is an example, what is the purpose of having a an Apple forum if people randomly post their love for OSX in the Geekdrome board? All we are going to do is move it to the correct location. The thread in question was moved at first however we decided to just lock it instead as it already gone off topic from the get go concerning the issue on whether or not it belonged in the Geekdrome boards.

As for people comparing us to Nazi's....

I would suggest waking up in history class. To compare us to Nazis is outrageous and offensive. I hope your never around a holoccaust survior when you make statements like this. Nazis were responsible for the deaths of millions of people. Some how justifying that us locking a thread on a web forum is the same thing is just sad. Grow up.

It's one of those rare cases where the movie is better then the book. I enjoy Chucky boy, but man, he is an awful writer. Like Dan Brown. Intersting concepts and plot lines, but it's amazing the boys can put two words together.

Sorry, been in a busy for the last half hour or so and missed this. I think the problem here is that we do not believe we should have posts closed when there is seemingly to us no issue. Seeing as we are the membership of this forum would the idea of moderation not be to protect Rev and us from the bothers of things that should not be on it? Lets take a step back and think about that for a moment. by your own set of rules you should look in the forum and work out if that post belongs in that thread. So by our own set of rules we should of been fine. I think what we have issue with here is that if someone breaks any kind of fundamental rule like real racism we're going to be all over them like a ton of bricks. To close a simple thread intended to keep the forum free and clear of tech issues down to a single thread rather than scattered all over and say that it is because it is in the wrong forum is simply bizarre. This is compounded by the fact that the individual closing the thread had already opened a tech support thread of a specific nature.
Personally I have never said that I hated the other forums. In fact if you look you'll find that I've posted in the other forums from time to time. I don't go back that much because I found that the responses weren't really my scene. Doesn't mean I hate anyone... just that I am already part of a great community. Sure there's a certain amount of hazing that goes on, but if you come up with some kind of catch phrase like say Sausage, you'll be fine here.
I don't think we should have to justify as a community why we would be uncomfortable with threads closing when we were able to function with out issue until now. I'm sure everyone recalls the concerns at the begining about moderation and what it would mean to us. Here we have our fears realised. Speaking as someone who has been moderating www.johnromero.com for the past 5 to 6 years I'm more than familiar with the trolls that are out there. Romero has a lot of people still pissed at him so it's like flys on SHlT there. but we made it work. Thankfully that's over, but we also lost membership. The art of moderating is like the art of flying... it's like being able to throw yourself at the ground... and miss. Just let go and wait and watch... if no one is getting hurt I'll bet you'll find that everything is ok.
