Alright, I downloaded the HD version of Diggnation...

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 215TW monitor, does this play HD.

I don't really understand the monitor sides of displays, so please help.

If it does, do I need a special player to play the file. I normally watch it in VLC Media Player..

Thanks.

HD is just about the resolution. So if you want to play it on your computer you will be able to do so, just as any other media file.

Diggnation is in 720p HD which means it is 1280x720 pixels (16:9). Your computer monitor will probably have a resolution greater than this, or in another aspect ratio (16:10 or 4:3), but you will still be able to play the file, and it will still look great (unless of course your resolution is 10000x4000 px ;)).

I'm not an HD expert, but I'm pretty sure that what I just said is right. I not, please correct me :)

I wouldn't say It looks great. The 720P h.264 is a little over compressed. When displayed on an large 720p TV, it doesn't look that much better than standard 480p quality. The static screens look great, but the video is pretty raunchy looking. I bet it looks better on a small PC monitor.

Yea I just played the file, and I can't really notice much of a difference. My resolution is much greater then that and yea.

Still, might as well watch the HD version.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, you are probably right, I have only been watching it on my laptop which has a 15.4" screen, but a pretty high resolution (1680x1050), and there it looks pretty good :) But not super-awesome, I'll admit :)

I watched on my 42" HD TV. It didn't look horrible. But it was no where near as sharp ad 720p HD usually is.

It looks more like its upscaled to 720p, rather than being crystal clear 720p content.

Well, it's clearly 720P. When they sit still of they show text over-lays or computer displays, it's crystal clear. You could just as well me looking at a 720P monitor. The trouble is that when anything moves, there is a shit load of pixellation from the compression. To get 30 minutes of 720P content into half a GIG is pretty impressive, even for h.264.

I agree with him. The "Diggnation HD" is what many consider the cheap ass way of doing HD content, make the resolution an HD resolution, aka height is 720. Then compress it until it is manageable, but looses lots of quality effectively making it not High Definition.

You know, something like The Totally Rad Show is what I would want in high def. It is very vivid and visual. Diggnation is just two dudes sitting on a couch. I love it, but is there any real need for it to be in HD? Sometimes I think we as tech geeks just get a hard on about HD when it really isn't even necessary.

Revision3's idea of "HD" isnt even worth it because they compress it too much.
