I surprised to see that with Kevin being such a Mac fan the new HD video doesn't work on the AppleTV. It won't copy to it nor will it play at all. The old video's worked fine, and I have the AppleTV playing plenty of other HD content, so it can play HD fine. Why don't these new video's work?
I hope they get this fixed, because I'm sure there's plenty of Apple users who wants this who'd like to watch it on their AppleTV in HD.:(

I posted this on the apple TV ( http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1123838&tstart=0 ) and here is the response.
The diggnation podcast is incorrectly encoded for the tv at 720p and 30 fps which exceeds the tv macroblock count limit.
But hey, I took a look at the Hubblecast podcast which is 720p at 25 fps, while this also seems to exceed the macroblock count limit, we have known for sometime that 25 fps seems to slip through. The really interesting thing though is that the hubblecast is encoded at 11000 + Kbps, it plays without issue on my tv over a 'g' network, this completely blows away the supposed 5000 Kbps for the tv.
WOW, high quality HD on the tv here we come.
Rev3, can we get a 720P version that will work on the apple TV?? PLEASE?
my bad :)
We're tweaking the settings right now and are testing on some virgin appletvs. I'll let you know when the corrected version is up.
(testing was incorrectly done on an appletv with perian instead of the normal apple codec.)

Thanks!:D It is appreciated! I actually wanted to sign up for a membership just now, to show the appreciation, but apparently you can only do it via pay pal. Sadly a while ago something got messed up with pay pal, when my father and I both tried to use the same credit card, and the accounts got blocked, and the pay pal staff hasn't been able to fix it yet. Either way, it is still very much appreciated, and if I ever get a new/another credit card, I will sign up for membership!;)

I use a AppleTV with Perian, too. But iTunes doesn't even copy the file to the AppleTV. And streaming from iTunes through AppleTV neither works. How did you get it to work on your Perian-AppleTV?
instead of using the normal interface, i primarily use awkwardtv plugins, namely ATVFiles. This lets me view content served from my nfs server. It also gets around itunes and it's finicky file type restrictions.
I've hit a snag in getting a more pure atv version, but hope to have one up soon. more as i get it :)

I have the same setup and was able to get the file to play by copying it directly to a folder on the Apple TV (actually a network share that is mounted on the Apple TV). The Apple TV will play the file with Perian, but iTunes won't sync or stream it since it detects that it is incompatible with an out of the box Apple TV.
I'm glad to see that this issue is being handled. I copied this week's episode manually, but I much rather prefer to sync podcast content since I don't keep it after I watch it. Also, thanks for the HD feed. It looks dramatically better than the regular large version.

What about getting the Large quicktime file to work on the iPhone, and all the new Apple Products (Nano Video, iPod Classic, and iPod Touch), since they now fully support 640x480/30fps... The 320x180 version, just doesn't look that great....
It sucks when you are trying to sync the large files, that are 640x360, but itunes gives an error saying they are not compatible with the device.
Glad to hear that the HD version will run on AppleTV tho :)

And here I was about to post about this topic. Thanks for the quick response on the issue and I look forward to many episodes in the future in 720p.
okee- i've replaced the hd.h264 version of episode 114 with one that should be appletv compatible. Give it a try, and please let me know if its not working.

Hey bmwt, just tried your new HD version of diggnation. I've copied it through iTunes to my AppleTV. It works just fine. Much thanks for your work and fast response.
