View Full Version : Does Bisexuality Exist?

Me and my ex boyfriend never agreed. He said if a guy ever did anything with a guy, or a girl ever did anything with a girl, then they were "gay" No if ands or but(t)s. I always believed sexuality was on a spectrum. So maybe I should start a poll.
(A poll, not a "pole"! :) )

No, that is the whole point of this thread!
No rudeness at all! The whole point was to create a mature discussion about the issue.
Hell, I "know" I'm gay, but messed with women, and had relationships with women back in my closet case days, and enjoyed it both emotionally and physisically. My ex thought "girl parts are yucky" and had never even tried with a girl. Diffenence is: he was "out" at sixteen, I was "out" at 28...

Hetero, Bi, Homo ... three phases. Four if you want to include celebate.
I am happily hetero. No desire to go beyond that.

There are more than just 3 or 4 types of people what about tri and quadsexuals. Like the type of people who likes real animals or stuffed animals or other inanimate objects. :D

If the person bent over and the dog mounted them and went at it wouldn't that be technically consenting since it wasn't forced or anything. :D

Of course bisexuality is a real thing. How can you deny a person is a bisexual when they state they are into both genders (and have relations with both genders.) Thats hard to argue...

I don't really care about boobs much. They are fun to see around town however they are hidden/displayed, I like clevage and side-boob, but they never gt me that excited about playing with them. Besides, here in l.a., you can see some good boobs walking towards you and then realsied it's an 80 yr old woman with a plastic surgeon expense account. Now - -- if you wanna talk about cute girl butt !!! I'm all over THAT.

Yeah, I think there's definitely a category for Bisexual. If you like both sexes, you're Bi. If only one or the other then you are hetero/homo.
What I'm honestly curious about is the inbetween of that. She-males/transexuals really have me confused. Not them, but the people interested in them. I bring that up because I work in a porn store and can't seem to figure out what type (as in gay, bi, or straight) of guys it is that buys the she-male movies.
Oh and I totally understand how Boobies could keep you from going to straight gay status. They are a wonder of nature! :D

Thus the old joke: "I'm a woman trapped in a man's body, but it's okay...I'm a lesbian"
People often group transsexuals in with homosexuals.
I suppose issues of social acceptance are similar. However, It is probably true that most homosexual men are still comfortable being men.
It does make it confusing when a person feels differently on inside than they look on the outside. If a person was born a man, but feels like a women inside, is it homosexual to be attracted to men? What if the person is still attracted to women, but is unhappy being a man?
A persons gender identity is probably different than their sexuality.

There's always Captain Jack Harkness!
Captain Jack isn't bisexual he is omnisexual.
"He’s bisexual, but in the realm of the show, we call him omnisexual, because on the show, [the characters] also have sex with aliens who take human form, and sex with male-male, women-women, all sorts of combinations."
John Barrowman. [link] (http://featuresblogs.chicagotribune.com/entertainment_tv/2007/07/spike-from-buff.html)
As for the thread topic. I don't see why there shouldn't/wouldn't be a category for bisexual. Tho, I do think a lot of people think 'if a guy sucks a dick, hes gay' (Unless its for coke of course. Then it just doesn't count.) but what if you then turn around and get it on with a woman? I think most people are just so used to putting others into a one or the other category. Its just easier for them.

I consider myself to be bisexual, although sexually, I'm barely functioning. It's a nice combination of mental and physical problems. I'm definitely attracted to both genders but have yet to do anything with a girl. In my experience, girls tend to be more perceptive and open, which I find intimidating; they expect the same of me in return, but I'm very shy and introverted so am usually too nervous to reciprocate. I also tend to be attracted to people that seem androgynous or just aren't like most guys or girls as far as gender expression goes. That applies to a lot of lesbians I've met but it's still so much easier to find people of the opposite sex to date and/or sleep with than members of your own sex.
Asking whether or not bisexuality exists is kind of like asking if something like Christianity exist--it does, independent of whether or not individual people believe in it.

Yes, bisexuality does exist. I think it is a frequently misunderstood sexual preference.
Bisexual people often face discrimination from both the gay and straight communities. They are looked on as people who either are in denial about their true sexuality or overly-sexual and promiscuous. When in reality they are just a person who is attracted to both men and women.
rabidbadger
09-13-2007, 12:59 AM
Yeah, that's one of the reasons I brought it up. I am surprised by how straight people believe it exists, but lots of gays, like my ex, say they are all just closet queens.

In the end if a bisexual person settles down with one partner, male or female, are they no longer bisexual then?
Not sure if there really is an answer to that question. They wouldn't be a practicing bisexual if they stayed monogamous.

I'd say they're still bisexual. Otherwise that'd be kind of like saying that a straight person who's celibate is asexual. Also, I don't really like the idea of the person you're in a monogamous relationship with, even a very committed, long-term one, defining your sexual orientation or kind of rendering your past sexual experiences and past (and present) desires obsolete.

I'm not sure I like the term obsolete here either. I think the term I like is "irrelevant."
I guess the debate is about weather availability determines your sexual preference. I suppose a teenager can be gay or bi regardless of how he expresses it.
However, a marriage is more than mere monogamy. A marriage means creating a new family unit. The nature of the relationship makes you unavailable to express any other sexuality.
Unless you're a swinger or something... I won't go there.
In any case, if you enter into such an arrangement, you make sure the person you choose is compatible with how you best express yourself.

Is a person that is not having sex right now celebit? No, they just aren't getting laid at the moment....a bisexual person in a relationship would still be attracted to both genders, making them still bisexual.

A persons gender identity is probably different than their sexuality.
Ok, first of all I think I confused the term transsexual with transgender. I'm referring to what is known as a She-male or transwoman. It's a male that has taken hormones to begin the steps of gender reasignment. So they will have mostly female features (including breasts) but still have male genitalia. Or I've actually seen it the other way around as well, with a woman with male features (including larger muscles and beards) but still has female genitals.
But like I said, I wasn't really curious about a transgender person themself because I think I understand it. What I was curious about was what type of person is attracted to a transgender person, from a purely superficial sense of course.
BTW, I didn't mean to group homosexual and transgender in any way...it just occured to me that since a transgender person has the features of a woman but sexual organs of a man, perhaps a bisexual person could be one that would be attracted to them? And that was my question: what type of person is attracted to transgenders, or would be interested in transgender porn for reasons of sexual gratification? I just can't figure out if it would be a homosexual, heterosexual or whom exactly.
But anyway, this is totally off topic and I apologize to the OP for that. But on topic, I just don't see how you could deny bisexuality. If a person is ONLY attracted to the opposite sex, they are hetero. If they are ONLY attracted to the same sex, they are homo. If they are attracted to both, they are Bi. It should be as simple as that. If you are Bi and are in an exclusive relationship with one sex, it doesn't mean you stop being attracted to the other.

My now-dead best friend was into guys AND girl and he refused to use labels. He said that he is Aaron, no labels necessary.
A guy being into guys doesn't mean he's not also into girls. Vice versa.
I believe that most of the population is, to some level, bi, even if just out of curiosity. Too bad we're taught to be ashamed of anything that might make us feel good. Even corn flakes were created to prevent it.

I haven't read the thread in it's entirety yet, so my points could ahev already been played out.
It's definitely an area I'm not sure about, but from personal experience, I'm going to say yes, to an extent. I have dated boys in my day, and foudn them to be nice, and good looking, but for a boy. I could never get it to last. I think a preference always plays out in the end.
Edit: I realize I said boys. I meant boy. Once. Early in high school. So its very possible its an uninformed opinion.
