Guys... would like your opinion.

December of 2005 I was laid off from my previous employer. I have been with my current employer since then. I recently updated my resume (I like to keep it updated because I hate having to get it updated quickly if I suddenly find myself in a job hunt. This way I can update my resume as I go along with my current employer, and won't forget about responsibilities, projects, or accomplishments.)

Anyway, some of the stuff we do at my company is get hired by other companies to try and break into their network through various means. Some of them have been as easy as directory transversal issues, and other more complex. Being that I've now done it quite a few times, I added the following line on my resume under the list of duties section:

Performed ethical hacking services such as wireless and server intrusion

Now, granted, that sentence is horrible. I feel like intrusion is never ended in a sentence like that without the word "detection." However, I changed the word "cracking" to "intrusion" because it sounded a little more safe to a potential employer...

Which finally brings me to my question...

Is this even worth talking about on my resume? It saddens me because I'm very good at doing ethical hacking. Of all the jobs we have been hired to do, I have been successful at each one. However, I feel that if someone were to see the words: "hacking" or "cracking" on a resume, they would instantly think: "OK, this is one of those guys who's going to **** with our network" and then crumple the resume and chuck it in the trash.

Thoughts?

Rather than ethical hacking try:

"Performed Vulnerability Threat Assessment (VTA) and Penetration Testing for network security audit purposes."

Now, we recently had them done as part of a ISO27001 certification. If you can point to the testing as being part of an ISO27001 or SAS70 Level I/II certification for a client, that is even better.

Performed security analysis/intrusion services on wireless networks and servers

I was going to suggest something similar to this regarding network security. That way the non technical folks in the HR department of <insert company name here> don't throw the red flag.
