all your guests on the show have been great, except for Jason Calacanis, I never liked him, and I never will, and now he took Veronica Belmont away from CNet, that bastard. It did take some balls to have him come on the show with Kevin Rose though.

Hmm anyway this guy (Max Levchin) was amazing, I loved listening to him talk. I wish I could meet this guy in person, but I have no idea what I would say to him.

...morons,

so when people called om a fatty and said he should loose wait was ok, cause they talked about it on their show?

anyhow, who ever it was offensive to, you need to leave rev3, it is reserved for non-morons.

thanks again ****ers,
your mom

That doesn't sound like much of an apology. :) Seriously, one of the cool things about this forum is that our hosts do visit every now and then so that they can interact with the viewers. Why would you want to make it uncomfortable for them to visit these forums?

Hi Psychopnut,

Thank you for taking the time to watch our show. If it satisfies your curiosity, I was the person that asked to have the post removed. Does it surprise you I would find the caption offensive?

I do read these forums on a regular basis and love to hear feedback from viewers about things we can do to make the show better. Om and I are working really hard to provide an intellectual and engaging show for the Rev3 viewers and in the process, I would appreciate not being stereotyped in such a manner. If you have any constructive feedback, yes, please do send it our way. We look forward to hearing it.

Best,

Joyce

OK OK, I am truly sorry. At the time of the editing of the picture it was late and I honestly didn't realize I was stereotyping someone, because in the world today as I see it... what I said... well... what I made you say, has just become a part of American society/history... whatever, thanks to Full Metal Jacket. Granted she was Vietnamese and I believe you are Korean, but that's besides the point. I am truly sorry that I offended someone, especially someone I like.

Also my aunt would probably slap me, she is Korean as well.

Yours Truly,

Me

Thank you for your reply post. I do appreciate that you took the time to read, think about things and reply. Your comments abt American societal norms are quite true..but we are part of the internet generation that is making the world flat - So hopefully things will only improve from now on:) And I hope this thread does make people a bit more aware of these issues - I know Rev3 viewers are smart people in tech that like to hear smart discussion about the issues, regardless of their background - its just a bummer to see the Ramzi, etc. posts here from time to time. But, thanks for watching and I hope Om and I can keep making the show better and better for you guys!

Best,

Joyce

Sorry to hi jack this thread back to THE SUBJECT at hand ;)

Anyway, the bit about IBM going open office and i think om made a
comment as to what open office is all about. Not that i can speak
for the *programmer intent*, but....

A lot of us aren't made of money (and a lot of us are teachers who have zero budget for a lot of stuff - but are supposed to prep students for the "real world and such".

That's the main motivation for put-ing things o/src - and i know i speak for a lot of dev geeks that we hate those absurdly high price tags on stuff. I mean compare two *actual* products PhotShop and PaintShop Pro. I've used PaintShop for years not just because of the price, but but because they did put out a try it before you buy it version.

with cNet (www.download.com) you can pretty much shop what you need to get your stuff done.

But as regards the costs of the s/w - when you multiply x all of the schools and all of the Work/Stations out there the profit margin must be approaching the pharmaceutical industry; ie, astronomical.

Also, a lot of times you only need a few functions to get something done, and all of the overhead isn't ever even touched - the prime example is
eXcel which of course is a direct rip off of Lotus (which was developed as a spin off from VisiCalc by the original programmer who wanted to put FUNCTIONAL calculations on each cell - variables, loops, etc - think "VisualBasic" or "JavaScript" here. But, 99% of the time (exagerated) most people just use xCell to make formated tables because they're a bit more predictable as to formating than the TABLE split/merge cells in M/S Word.

So, what's the final word? ideas?

personal peeve: I developed a bunch of stuff for M/S Word 4 or 5 and one of
the old M/S office suites and then could-N'T port it to the new version which i shelled out large $$'s (for me)for.

and of course: The whole MAC / PC thing is just more of the same: Once you're locked into a system or a platform (at least MAC's OS9, etc is linux/unix forward looking. M/S NT, XP?) - then you have portabliity issues
and such. As one of the old hippy computer geeks, the whole idea was power (computing power specifically) to ALL of the people. And we're seeing the great "distinguishing / dividing" mark being availability being S/W that you pretty much *have* to hae to be not just competitive - but COMMUNICATIVE (ie, *existent* / *visible* / *viable*) at all.

At least a few companies (eg, id software's Doom 3 - $20 for the game engine) is at least reasonblly priced), but again so that *every* geek on the planet has a chance to realise their full geeky potential - it's pretty much having to be Open/Src; eg, InkScape, Blender, etc.

Oh, well, that's my 2-cents ALTARIAN for open source. I mean surely M/S and such companies can afford to at least have *minimal* sets - which of course implies cripple ware, limited functionality, etc.

..(where upon the "great philosopher" and part-time table danser got off his soap-box, and fell face-first into a recently load of horse hockey, but jumping up quickly he sed 'i ment to do that' - which fooled no one at all).

-- Frank.
--42-- And remember: this week we're having our giant liquidation sale: buy one decimal point at regular price, and get the second one HALF OFF! ;)
