Tried the search function and I didn't see any threads on it. I can't tell whether I like it or not. Has a great cast but it seems like it could either go the corny route, or the awesome route. Then again "the movie is already getting a 9.4 rating on imdb with over 125 votes, and a 100% on Rotten Tomatoes with 7 reviews" (from /flim) probably don't lie.

What do you guys think?

I don't know what it is.

This movie hit somewhere in my sense of humor, and i am eagerly awaiting it.

It looks simply like another one of "those" movies. I'll see it and I'll probably enjoy but never watch it again.

Just got back from a free preview of Juno here in the UK and I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone. If I could sum it up in a few words, they'd be...

Cute, Heart-warming, quirky

Watched it at the pad the other night it was pretty good. I liked the characters and I thought it ended as it should. Just goes to show you don't need 100 million dollar budget to make a good movie. Soundtrack is awesome as well.

God. I loved the soundtrack. Pre-ordered it. Got it. Listened to it a bunch.

Then I google imaged Kimya Dawson, and don't listen to it nearly as much anymore :(

Juno was fantastic. Michael Cera and Ellen Page were two of my favorite young stars before this, and this movie certainly didn't hurt that. Same goes to Justin Bateman.

I have never agreed with Alex more than about this movie.

The dialog really ruined it for me. Parents aren't that quippy.

It really felt like everyone was acting as if they were 23

Best part of Juno, where the main character says, "totally rad" in the middle of a sentence.

I'd have to see the movie again to validate my hypothesis, but lets just go with it now. I believe Juno and those that were her age were using an evolved lexicon when compared to the lexicon of the parents/grown ups.

Once grandma says "bling bling" or "fo shizzle" the use of those phrases among young people has already reduced drastically and they are already onto other newer, hipper phrases like "crunk" or maybe even "pimp juice."

Its my opinion that these adults in the movie tended to relate to younger people a little better than most adults do in real life. Thats why I think them making use of a lot more slang was perfectly fine and it actually added a lot of humor to certain situations. That said, they were still a step behind Juno and her friends with the whole slang thing.

Still gotta see it but my friend Brian saw it and from what he's said I think the problem a lot of people have with Juno is that they're using phrases that no one has ever used in an attempt to make catchphrases, a la Superbad, Napoleon Dynamite, etc. There's also a feeling of trying way too hard to be hip.

Hmm, I think there's one scene where it seemed a little forced (first time Juno tells her best friend about the pregnancy), but for the most part it seemed to fit quite well. I actually liked the fact that Juno's parents were more in tune with her than most parents are. It never seemed beyond possibility, but it probably makes most people wish their parents were that cool.

It never felt to me like they were trying to give viewers catchphrases, but to give the characters their own catchphrases. To remove themselves, and place the movie in a slightly "hipper" world. It worked.

As far as parents go, I agree with Wes.

I loved Juno probably more than most of the movies I've seen this year. It was one of those movies that relies mostly on its dialogue and characters. The pregnancy part of the movie is really just a backdrop more than the focus. There was never that awkward dramatic part that always kind of sends a movie downhill for me. I felt good the whole way through, and left with a huge smile. It was great and I would recommend it to anyone.

I abusolutly loved this movie. It made me laugh, but by the end it I was almost ready to cry cause it was so sweet. The humor was the best part, and the over all story was great

Really?? You think a grown man saying, "Your eggo is preggo," to a teenage girl who just found out she was pregnant isn't forced?
The first 20 minutes of the movie drove me completely crazy becasue the dialogue was so completely insane... but it won me back from there. I ended up really liking it in the end.

I was wondering how a grown man could "adore" a movie when Jeff said that's how he felt about it, then i saw it and I understood.

This is not a movie for everyone, I think that is largely because of the use of dialog. I did see it after the guys reviewed it, so I went in expecting the dialog to seem a little out of place. I think that if you go into the movie expecting that, the dialog actually helps with the character progression (at least it did for me). At the beginning of the movie you see this sarcastic kid who, like most 16 yr old kids (i know i did), thinks she's smarter and beyond the adults, and i think that having the adults talking on the lower level helps show that from her point of view. As the movie progresses you start to see this type of dialog less and i think that it shows more, from her pov, that she's growing up and understands the adults and can identify with them more. Maybe I'm digging to deep into it, but this was one of the aspects that I loved about this movie.

Yeah it seemed natural, because it looked like they'd got a kind of friendly relationship. At least that's how it came across to me.

Ellen Page was awesome in this movie. People should check out her performance in Hard Candy, then compare it to Juno. She's going to have a very bright future in hollywood.

For those saying the dialogue is a bit over the top, I have a teenage niece from the suburbs. The dialogue is not very far off at all. Seriously.

I thought the movie was fun and cute and all that, but it just didn't do much for me. All I really thought throughout is how much it tried to be deep and meaningful like the far superior Garden State (and others of that ilk) but not coming anywhere close. Juno was the least interesting character, with the least characterization IMHO. I was more interested in Jason Bateman's suburban husband dealing with the difficulties of settling down. I was more interested in Michael Sera's character Paulie Bleaker.

So, don't get me wrong. I liked the film. I just don't think it should win awards for anything or should be hailed as a great and timeless piece.

As the father, it felt like Diablo Cody had kind of ditched him, then decided to revisit him in the last little bit.

As far as Garden State being superior, I disagree very strongly.

I didn't like this movie that much. It's surprising to see it get nominated for so many academy awards. If anything I was embarrassed by the movie. I'm a teenager, and the movie felt like adults perception of what youngins are like.

just watched this earlier tonight on the PC, and i must say, it was better than i was expecting.

Michael Cera was funny as hell, and the girls parents were well played.

not a bad flick, but i cant see how it is being nominated for awards, to be honest. its just a teen flick with some more mature undertones.

I know I am 2-3 years late on this one, but I just watched it without knowing more than "Juno is a movie, and it got nominated or won a lot of stuff.." Anyhow, I enjoyed it. It kept my interest throughout, and I think what Wes said on the first page summed it up for me as well:

"Cute, Heart-warming, quirky"

Now, as for some of the dialog being out of whack, I'd agree IF this movie was from 10-15 years ago, when I was a teen. We didn't talk like that, not here, anyhow. But these days? I see my younger siblings and their friends on Facebook and it's far more whacked than in this movie. Here's a real wall post from someone I know, currently in high school:

"BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Goddd. i love how these people think they run me, pff. you were my friend, ch'yeaah .. but i did it PERFECTLY fine without you, and i don't need you WHAT SO EVER ! XD ! Godd, look at this town, if i needed a skank, id find one worth my time, BAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHA! PEAAACE ,"

You have as much context as I do for that... lol

In conclusion, Juno's dialog seems like it's probably more with the times than I think it is, and I am getting old and curmudgeony.

It's far too intelligent and civilized to be modern. Kids nowadays just abbreviate everything (especially when texting) and use a bunch of dirty words. I could see it being a satire of how kids talk though.

Well, the dialogue in Juno might not be realistic. But that's not a negative thing in my opinion. Dialogue doesn't have to be true to the real world. The dialogue has to be true to the film's universe, and true to the character.

I definitely think that is the case with Juno.

I hated that scene so much I nearly shut the movie off in disgust.

Thankfully it got much better after that. In fact, the whole beginning of that movie is pretty intolerable. But once it settles in it's a fine little movie.

That's how I felt while watching Jennifer's Body. I don't know if it's the direction or the actors or the atmosphere, maybe a combination, but personally it worked perfectly in Juno, and was absolutely atrocious in Jennifer's Body. I can't say I'm looking forward to another Diablo Cody script in the near future.

Well, firstly I think one reason I liked the first one was because it was original, the second time it felt like too much of a rehash, secondly there are writers with a better than 50% success rate in my book, and thirdly I'm a huge fan of virtually all the talent associated with Juno so it's unlikely Diablo Cody's next film has so many actors in it I enjoy/think can pull it off. I guess time will tell.
