I wanted to get your guys opinion here regarding this (http://digg.com/world_news/WHICH_MIDDLE_EAST_COUNTRIES_HELD_CANDLELIGHT_VIGIL S_FOR_9_11) story on Digg. Looking at the story I thought wow, Iran backed us after 9-11! Then I started to think..hmmm, was this sponsored by the Iranian government or merely a gathering of citizens? A user on Digg thought the same things and has a pretty valid point if you ask me:
Mindless nonsense. There's a difference between state sponsored events, and a few people lighting candles. Learn to tell the difference between the former and the latter and stop posting nonsense to digg. Thanks.
He immediately started getting dugg down (-132 diggs at the moment)
I commented on the users comment:
Redeye makes a valid point guys. Was this a formal state sponsored event or simply a gathering of Iranian citizens? Big whop if it was mearly a gathering of citizens. Where's the story in that and how is it known that there wasn't citizens holding vigils in the counties that were claimed to not hold such vigils? Unless you physically ask each and every citizen who cares?
This story reeks of being bias...
I was immediately dugg down as well and relieved some rather funny comments such as:
""Where's the story in that"? the story is that your government is increasingly looking likely to try and attack Iran... if you can't see the story i'm betting you're one of those retards who voted for bush."
Suddenly, it hit me...Digg= "bahhhhhh". What a huge crowd of sheep! This story was a successful piece of propaganda. The intent was to get people all up in arms over the possibility of the US taking military action in Iran (even though the article made no mention of that) and it worked. I'm against such an action, but even I was able to put my own feelings aside and see it as being a propaganda piece.
Am I right or am I right guys? :P

I don't spend much time on digg anymore, especially news. I think there seems to be alot of people who hate anything Saudi, Iranian, Iraqui, or whatever they can't understand. (fvckin Luxembourgians !!)
You are right about the sheep lipofphatness. I think people still think we are looking for WMD's and bin laden. There are very vocal users on digg who can't possibly imagine u.s. government doing ANYTHING wrong EVER. In their eyes, every war or 'situation' that involved america going in and destroying and kiilling and spending money, was for the good of the american people. Someone convinced them somewhere along the line that the nation needed to kill and spend a fortune for oil and control, and that in turn resulted in our liberty.
You'd find them also believing how well we kicked Vietnam's ass.

The people of a country and the government are separate. One may support a cause and not the other. Most Americans do not support Bush. If the citizens supported us or the government, it doesn't change that the Bush administration wants to attack them. To attack one is to attack both. If "we" attack, we are attacking our supporters.

The people of a country and the government are separate. As any American travelling overseas will tell you a lot of people in the world HATE America, but are OK with AMERICANS. When it comes down to it, they don't really hate America, they hate the government that represents America. Drill a little deeper, and its not a hatred of the government, its a hatred of the policies of the government. Go a little deeper, and its not the policies, its the foreign affairs policies of the government.
Substitute America with Iran, and it is similar. People say they hate Iran - but its not the people, its the politics of the government. All nations have people that good and just that live there, but we have biases that blind us to the good of the individuals because of the media coverage of the government.
One of the greatest parts of America is your constitution, and they protections it affords the citizens of the USA. Many countries do not have those guarantees of safety and freedom for having a dissenting view. Cherish it.

Saddly, this is very true. It shouldn't be as such, but it is. A government should fear its people, not the other way around. I have heard from a few people I have met tho, that France is actually very afraid of their people. I have yet to see this first hand tho, so this is merely hearsay.

I'm going to have to strongly disagree with you there. I believe that no one has the right to decide if another person should live or die unless that other person is also deciding if someone should live or die. Bush and his lackeys have done some horrible things, no argument there. But that doesn't give us the right to kill them. They should be stripped of their office and sentenced to life in prison I believe, but not to death. If they want to kill the selves, that is their choice.
EDIT: Wait. You said hung. So their penises should be made longer? Lol. HANGED. Just saying.

The thing about digg is that it is populated by masses and masses of young, socially inept children. I'm not trying to be mean, but most digg users go on digg to get into youtube-esque arguments about nothing. Digg is an army of sheep, and they tend to believe wholeheartedly in whatever is posted on digg, unless of course they see a dugg up comment saying not to, and then they don't.

actually i am against the death penalty but the punishment for high treason is death
and what they have done is exactly that
even in dante's inferno the ninth circle of hell is for the betrayers ~ of all sins it is the greatest (in dante's exposition)to betray a friend
there lie brutus and cassius and judas frozen prepetually in ice

Well if you are against the death penalty then you should be against death being the punishment for high treason.
And I think dante's inferno only holds weight if one believes in a hell. Which I don't. I see life in prison as a much worse punishment.

We are losing this though.

I stopped using Digg.com over a year ago out of principle. It's mob mentality over there. There is only 1 side politically over there with a voice, there is no debate or discussion. I actually remember a guy claiming to have help fund terrorists/insurgents. He was dugg up big time, and reported to the FBI.
